Genius ideas to let me sleep in hotel room?

InterferingOutsider · 01/08/2023 22:59

We're on holiday. Had DC together in twin room two doors down from us. DC1 didn't eat supper as felt unwell. DC2 did, then went up before dessert. She's been vomiting ever since - really violent, not much left but can't keep a mouthful of water or dioralyte down. DC1 has now started.

I'm now sat wrapped in my duvet in an office chair, but can't lean my head on anything. There's a boxy thin arm chair which is even more uncomfy and has a lower back. I'm going to have to sleep on the carpeted floor aren't I?

Glad you made it back @InterferingOutsider there’s nothing like your own bed when poorly. I hope you manage to avoid it, glad DC seem to be improving, such a horrible trip Flowers

Such a horrible husband, more like.

I know you're not engaging with posts about him, @InterferingOutsider but I really hope you're reading them and getting strength from the unanimous condemnation of his behaviour as not decent, not normal, not acceptable ever. I hope you realise that you don't have to tolerate it because of being a sahm. And I hope you and your children find a very happy life a long way away from him one day (soon).

MyUsernameIsCake · 03/08/2023 20:47

“I'm a sahm so sick DC are my job.”

But you’re on holiday.

Is DC2 okay if they’ve not kept anything down for 24hours?

Is your husband emetophobic?

I say this as someone who has had CBT and been hypnotised twice, I've read all the books and still faint when my children are sick. I actually fainted in the bathroom once with my DS and had to have stitches on my forehead.

I cannot deal with them. My husband has to. However, it breaks my heart that I can't comfort them and I find being incapable is so terribly distressing.

So I will say this - if he's emetophobic, I get it and have compassion for him.

If not, and just lazy? Leave the fucker.

From one emerephobe to another - I’m guessing hypnotherapy didn’t work? I’m currently thinking about trying this. From a mum with a toddler in nursery full time, crippled with anxiety!!!

@TwitTwont yes thanks. Not a trip I want to repeat! We even got a taxi home from the station rather than wait 40 mins for the connection as even he realised DC2 needed to be home asap. DC1 seems better, DC2 decided she wanted food but still can't keep anything down. Went to bed early and is still asleep, so hope she'll feel better today. "D"H has gone into the office, so we're going to have a recovery day. Don't feel great, hoping it's lack of sleep rather than me going down with it.

I had a dh like this. My holidays were similar. I divorced him eventually but for years I endured the 'well you wanted them so you deal with them' mentality. It was soul destroying.
I spent years on my own with 3 kids, making excuses as to why daddy didn't want to join in. I had holidays where our kids were poorly and I was so exhausted I couldn't see but I felt bad for not being an earner (in spite of being a higher earner when we met) and I just took it because he made me feel so unreasonable for asking for help.

Op. Your husband's behaviour is reprehensible as was mine.

A good partnership works together. This is not a good partnership.

JLou08 · 03/08/2023 22:10

There should be one adult and one child in each room. Sorry but you husband is out of order. Makes no difference that your at SAHM, when children are ill you both chip in. When it's a holiday you both chip in. Even at home when he is working he should be contributing to raising his children.

no space for a foldaway bed unfortunately. They've already given me one replacement set of bedding! DH won't look after DC if they're I'll, he's buggered off to bed after cursing them and me for asking him to come and help.
I tried but the cushions won't come off the chair.

I'm sure you already had plenty replies like this, but what a poor excuse of a father and husband!!
Not only he doesn't want to know his kids when they're sick but he cursed you???

I know these things are not easy but I would be planning a divorce.

RoseMartha · 07/08/2023 09:27

@InterferingOutsider How is everyone now OP? Hope on the mend and you didnt get it.

InterferingOutsider · 07/08/2023 10:01

MIL has been quite ill and started about 10 hours after the DC so it must have been the restaurant where we ate before we went away. DC1 has declared himself fully recovered, DC2 is still not back eating full meals but feels fine and I have not felt this awful in a long time. Weirdly today my leg muscles are excruciating. Thank god for the Switch! And the rain so I don't feel guilty. And the DC who keep popping in to check on me. OH is in the office today and seemingly immune.

@InterferingOutsider oh I'm so sorry.
Try this to remedy dehydration - assuming vomiting and /or diarrhea.

  • Half (1/2) level teaspoon of Salt

Probably because he's a robot.

If he does get it though, no doubt you'll be expected to wait on him hand and foot.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/08/2023 13:21

So have a good sleep now the DC seem to be on the mend. And then start thinking about the divorce.

Why on Earth would being a SAHM make the kids your job when on holiday? He’s not at work whilst there is he?

BreadInCaptivity · 01/08/2023 23:09

Move the pillows/duvet from your room to make a little floor bed and let your cunt of a husband do without.

This!

SBHon · 07/08/2023 13:46

OH is in the office today and seemingly immune.
Shame.

Is he looking after his MIL? Interested to see if there are any situations at all where he would show compassion and to who. Certainly not you or the children.

InterferingOutsider · 08/08/2023 05:09

He was annoyed last night because when he came home, thenDC had cooked dinner but didn't feel confident dealing with the pasta pan, so I asked him to do it. He was bashing around the kitchen telling the DC they'd done it all wrong and made too much mess til they left. So he served just himself... then as they scarpered after dinner he was left with the washing up which he also did as noisily and sweatily as possible.
I woke, to a sarcastic "thank you" and door slam, all damp so I hope my fever has gone, and am pretending to be asleep whilst it seems OH is not so immune as we thought...

MIL is with FIL two hours away. She's starting to feel better. FIL didn't come out with us as he was busy.

Seddon · 08/08/2023 06:24

So you're happy for him to treat your kids like shit until they run off and hide from him? Is that jus part and parcel of being a SAHM too?

PriamFarrl · 08/08/2023 07:52

So he was angry that is sick wife hadn’t cooked him dinner? Most partners would message during the day to say not to worry about dinner because they would cook something or get a take away.

Anytimeitrains · 08/08/2023 08:01

This is weird. Op why aren’t you engaging with any comments about your dh but then occasionally dropping in something else annoying he’s done, but without any emotion? It’s like you’re telling us a narrative of a situation. What do you want from this thread now? You’ve had all the advice about what a knob he is but are just ignoring the comments

rileynexttime · 08/08/2023 08:39

The OP started the thread because she wanted practical solutions about sleeping in the hotel room with no bed and 2 sick offspring.
I think she's posting now because people were asking if she'd got back etc and she's therefore updating .
She's not obliged to discuss her relationship with her husband.
Maybe writing it down and seeing responses will help her plan for the future or stand up for herself . But she doesn't have to discuss that here.

AuntieJune · 08/08/2023 11:09

Your DH really does sound like a selfish man OP, he could have spread a bug all around his office, it was quite clear he was likely to come down with it too.

If I were you, I'd be thinking about getting a job and making domestic responsibilities more equally shared. That would give you more independence and a better footing for ever breaking up with DH if you one day decide that's what you want to do. It sounds like he's not a loving man, just earns money and expects that to be his only role in the family.

InterferingOutsider · 08/08/2023 11:16

I'd be thinking about getting a job I've been trying for over a year now 😩
I've had a chat with the DC - that it's not their fault.
