Hey has anyone ordered the naked cake from m&s, and did you like it? How did you decorate it? Would you mind sharing pics if you did?

Or am I being daft getting a birthday cake from them?Naked cake from m&s

Crikey. It’s so unfinished you may as well save yourself £30 and just bake your own!

Luxell934 · 29/07/2023 16:04

Look on Etsy for loads of decoration ideas that you could add on.

RitzyMcFitzy · 29/07/2023 16:05

My mother saw a 'naked' cake at a wedding and assumed there'd been some icing related disaster and this sad naked cake was all that could be salvaged 😅

There is no way I could bake a cake that looks so precise in its sharp edges, level top and perfect circle. I am probably just a rubbish baker.

Ohmylovejune · 29/07/2023 16:13

They don't bake them like that. They bake like we do and then put them on a pottery type wheel and cut off the rough edges.

My Dad was a baker confectioner in the 1950s and royal iced many wedding cakes including the intricate standout iced lacework. Those fruit cakes they trimmed but not so much because the marzipan and icing did the job.

Appin · 29/07/2023 16:15

I had this at a wedding yesterday, it was just stacked as per the instructions and then flowers added. It was delicious! Lots of Icing in between the layers.

mrsbyers · 29/07/2023 16:15

Way too much buttercream for me even without the outer coating but I think they look really pretty dressed up with edible flowers or even a selection of fruit tumbling down

Neither can they! It's trimmed to be that neat.

ah, thanks! And there I was think my oven was slanty.

Piscesmumma1978 · 29/07/2023 16:31

I actually think that's really good value for money.

Have you looked on Pinterest for naked cake ideas?

Dermadirj · 29/07/2023 16:44

Slanty oven 😂

Yep I thought it was good value for money too and that it could give a bit of wow factor. Unless people end up thinking the nakedness is a mistake which I hadn't thought of lol

I know I’m completely missing the point but WTAF is happening when there’s the option to pay for a CAKE in 3 interest-free instalments?

It’s not an essential like, say, school shoes that I can imagine some people might need to borrow for in these times. It’s a fucking cake.

It’s nice enough OP, I might buy it if I was so inclined (not on credit though!)

Have you baked a cake this size recently? You wouldn’t save more than £5 or £6 (if that) once the cost of ingredients is taken into account and you’d be looking at multiple bowls, cooking tins etc. If you didn’t already have the equipment, it would cost you way more than £30 to bake this cake!

fyn · 29/07/2023 16:54

I recently purchased a made to order M&S cake, it was disgusting. Pretty but basically inedible!

Try Waitrose if you ever want to try again. I served one of their top of the range ready made cakes to a group of elderly ladies with decades of baking experience and they said it was ‘just like home made’. I assume the made to order are equally good.

NumberTheory · 29/07/2023 17:00

I dislike the naked cake trend, always looks like someone ran out of time.

But that does look like good value for money.

Rhea43 · 29/07/2023 17:29

I bought the single tier of this recently (last month) as I didn’t have time to bake my DD’s birthday cake this year. I added some extra buttercream and then decorated it (love heart design as requested by the birthday girl). Cake was perfectly nice, it had a long use by date and did what I needed it to do! I felt it was very good value compared to the cost of using a local specialty cake maker.

Tallulahbelle1038 · 29/07/2023 17:31

Yep got it for daughters 2nd birthday and decorated it with bits from Etsy and macarons/flowers. Was brilliant and fed loads!!!! Worth every penny!!

MsAnnThropic · 29/07/2023 17:37

Yes! We had it just yesterday for my Mum's 70th. We added fresh fruit and edible flowers for decoration.

It was actually really delicious and tasted homemade rather than shop bought. Lots of people commented on how tasty it was.

I'd thoroughly recommend!

Purplepeoniesdroppingpetals · 29/07/2023 17:37

i had the chocolate version of this for my dad’s 80th and it was delicious - it was v hot and there was no way I was baking.

Bake that for £6?! Have you seen the price of butter and sugar at the moment?

Duckingella · 29/07/2023 17:44

M&S sell these too

www.ocado.com/products/m-s-edible-viola-flowers-552852011

You could use them to decorate the cake.

Twothousandandjustonemore · 29/07/2023 17:45

@wutheringkites the M&S cake is £45 so I wasn’t suggesting it could be baked for £6.
Yes I could bake that for £15.

It's a PayPal option - you see it on other sites that accept PayPal.
