Friend is away for a couple of days for a stag do. He doesn't normally drink so guessing not much would render him quite drunk. Last night I received a text at 1am but didn't see it till this morning. It was written terribly with a lot of typos and repeated letters in words so took me a few moments to understand what it said. The coherent version...without some random stuff at the beginning..

"Juyetii, poppy. I miss you. I wish you were here with me. Its so fucking beautiful. So so beautiful. Is it too late to tell you how I feel. You're the one. Let's go back to the beginning. I'm just wasting time. I know it might be complicated but it doesn't matter. it will be okay. I'm too fucking scared to tell you. I wish you feel the same.

I haven't received anything from him yet nor have I replied. I don't know what to make it of it really. Im pretty sure he was drunk when he sent it. Does he actually mean it if he was drunk? Do I bring it up / ignore it?! I've been thinking about it all day!

It’s interesting that some posters see it as romantic and others a turn-off.

I’m definitely in the romantic camp and also tend to say it as it is more when drunk

What's giving me pause is that I can't see an answer to the question of whether he's single. If that's the 'complication', this isn't the start of a beautiful relationship, but of something quite different.

"I love you, I've always loved you. The stars only shine when you're around. You make me a better person and I can't breathe if you're not in my life.... speaking of which, how did the emissions test go on the Audi?"

Best thing I've heard today. Grin

Are you sure it isn't that someone else grabbed his phone and sent it without him knowing? Is there anything that confirms it isn't a prank by some of the people he's with?

Yes sorry I'd assume this. So wary of your response.

TheFireflies · 28/07/2023 08:15

I’d meet up with him once he’s back, you should be able to pick up on how he feels now he’s sent that.

This isnt about you.

@MaxwellCat - your situation was completely different. It was your ex and you’d been separated for years. This is a totally different situation. Do you want your ex to mean it?

Loving the heady cocktail of declarations plus practicals of the MOT

LittleMonks11 · 28/07/2023 08:21

What is MOT?

With the sideline of "why aren't I being given the same advice for my only vaguely related situation "

GetOurraMeWay · 28/07/2023 08:22

I've just laughed out loud on the TUBE at the juxtaposition of romantic declarations and motoring practicalities 😂😂😂 let us know re the car and the guy please OP!

LittleMonks11 · 28/07/2023 08:21

What is MOT?

It's an annual car inspection in the UK. ("Ministry of Transport" certificate, even though that Government department has long since been re-named!)

rileynexttime · 28/07/2023 08:27

That was a lovely text. 100% he meant it.
I hope the complications can be worked out. And pain not caused to others.

wineandsunshine · 28/07/2023 08:28

Awwwww! I'm invested in this romantic/drink messaging!!

Please tell us more!

ChilliPixie · 28/07/2023 08:29

Shamelessly placemarking for further updates

KPops22 · 28/07/2023 08:30

Surprised at how many people believe drunk texting!

LittleMonks11 · 28/07/2023 08:30

Doh! I thought MOT was some Mumsnet acronym for something! 😂

Good luck OP! Sounds promising 😁

ChristmasFluff · 28/07/2023 08:32

Oh yikes, I think most people get overly sentimental when drunk and also are vastly overly optimistic - hence the famous 'beer goggles'.

I think he's gone 'phew!' cos you haven't declared undying love in response and is now backtracking into safe territory.

I think you made a good response, OP, and the ball is now in his court.

Coffeetree · 28/07/2023 08:33

Okay I'll be the killjoy and say that this text is honestly insulting. He's way too old for fuckboy texts. If he wants to be with you and he's realised it, great, but he needs to sober up and approach the topic seriously.

Response: "Whoa, how drunk are you? If you actually mean any of this, sober up and come talk to me properly. Otherwise, I'm trying to sleep here."

ChristmasFluff · 28/07/2023 08:38

@MaxwellCat Your text was completely different though. This bloke clearly hasn't sent this to every likely shag in his phone. He's taken time and effort even though drunk. He uses her name.

I may not be as optimistic as others about this lassie's text, but it's a whole different league to the one you got.

Suunnyd · 28/07/2023 08:41

Exciting!

Segat111 · 28/07/2023 08:41

Alcohol is an astonishingly effective truth serum as far as I'm concerned 😉

juyeti · 28/07/2023 08:42

Omg. Can't believe there's so many people invested in this! 😂
We ended up texting till 2am last night and now I'm bloody late for work. Will update later.

We need to know what the texts were about. Hopefully not all car safety based?

ThatFraggle · 28/07/2023 08:55

Cowardly men who can't express their feelings sober are very ick. If he's liked you for ages why has he never said? Can't really like you that much.

And echoing those who ask why OP won't say if he's single. Maybe you are all making heart eyes at a budding OW.

And I know it must be nice to have attention from a thread, OP, but saying you'll "start another thread to explain the 'complications'" is just silly.

Most complications can be explained in a couple of sentences: We live 200 miles apart; he's a pilot and only in the UK ten days a month; I'm in a wheelchair; He used to date my sister; My divorce isn't finalised; He's my stepbrother, but our parents only married when we were both adults and had left home; I have a child with special needs, so no time to date; he was wrongly convicted of a crime, but I think the accuser is lying... Etc.
