So far, I'm thinking that washing powder and cotton wool pads are prob alt good value.

Thanks!

Toro loco wine. Moser Roth chocolate. All their gin is good as far as I’ve tried. Mexican microwave rice.

Laundry non bio pods in a blue tub

Rollitos
Sliced potatoes with ham in that you fry, great for easy teas
The value sliced chicken tikka cooked chunks
Family packs of ham, breaded one especially
All cheese is good there
Greek yogurt
Split pot yogurt like Muller corner

Brioche and pain au chocolate for snacks
Crisps especially the meaty 6 pack ridge ones
All cereal good
Cereal bars
Chocolate oaty biscuits are addictive
Mini bags of kids biscuits great for days out
Malted bloomer loaf our weekend treat

Vintage cider is lovely
DH likes tbe stubby bottles of lager

Basically everything is good except the meat we don't like it from there the chicken is always swimming In water in our local one.

Sliced potatoes with ham...
sorry to be a nobber but do you have a photo of the packet pls?

Used to get something similar in Sainsbury's, and I loved it but never see it anymore

Nellieinthebarn · 25/07/2023 20:48

I haven't found anything to be bad except the standard crisps, the posh ones are lovely and the other snacks are all nice. The fruit maybe doesn't last quite as long, and the chicken breasts always need an extra trim, but that is the only bad thing I can say. The ready made fish pie is outstanding, as is the mousaka. I love the chocolate both the posh and the standard variety. I get almost everything from Aldi.

BIWI · 25/07/2023 20:48

I do most of my shopping there now, and haven't had anything poor yet. The only things I can't buy there, are catfood - our little buggers don't like the cheaper Aldi brands - and some specific, more esoteric things, e.g. Campari or Vermouth Rosso for DH's negroni!

I particularly like their ground coffee - I buy the Kenyan one.

Their cheese range is really good (the Red Fox Red Leicester is delicious)

DH buys all our wine there, and their gin range is very good too.

Sliced chocolate chip brioche loaf appears to have gone missing of late, replaced by boring old chocolate chip brioche rolls - very sad!!

Recently discovered knock off Pop Tarts by the cereals though if anyone hasn't seen these yet - taste just like the real ones at half the price.

Bonfire23 · 25/07/2023 20:55

Oh I forgot the cinnamon rolls. Someone on here told me to microwave them for 10-20 seconds. Life changing GrinBlush
The subway bread roll copies are decent, the ones that look floury are softer than the cheese and herb ones

lilila · 25/07/2023 20:56

I really like their mascaras..I used to have a problem with smudge eyes before I discovered them!

Bodybop · 25/07/2023 20:57

Meringues
wasabi peas
peanut butter (crunchy no crap)

Minikievs · 25/07/2023 21:01

Great:
Tiger bread rolls
Lunchbox biscuit packs (groovy bars!)
Posh biscuits (the ones that look like foxes or M&S, in a plastic tray inside the wrapper)
Sweetcorn and pasta etc, cupboard staples, are good
Mayo
Chicken satay sticks
Norpak butter
Steam veg bags
Marmite
Nutella

Shit:
All fruit and veg
Some stores differ but mine is crap for F&V
Dishwasher tablets and washing tablets, I end up washing twice as they don't get things clean

Startyabastard · 25/07/2023 21:01

So many things are good from there. Pine nuts and cashew nuts are brilliant, their fruit smoothies are too.

Lovehearts82 · 25/07/2023 21:04

Cinnamon buns 😋 😍 absolutely delicious 😋

Lottle · 25/07/2023 21:10

Another for dishwasher tabs
Their nuts are good

Slightly unrelated, there are lots of reusable cotton wool alternatives which may save you more money long term

@Gadooza I'll add those to my list, thanks very much 🍷. The organic stuff is magic, safe to drink a glass too many on a weeknight without regret.

Will definitely be trying the magic organic one!
I rate the Greek Assertyko (however it’s spelt), and the Barossa Shiraz. Avoid the Estasomething Shiraz like the plague though. (White label, text only-image.). It’s horrible.

@Tilllly are you remembering the amazing potato, ham and egg breakfast fry packets that Sainsbury’s used to do? They were scrumptious but, sadly I can’t find them any more.

Tilllly · 25/07/2023 21:26

Chilled section

Thank you
Will have a look for that
☺️

Tilllly · 25/07/2023 21:28

@Neverknowinglysensible

Yes, vacuum packed

I love them but haven't seen them since Cmas

Thai green curry kit like this:Ready, Set...Cook! Thai Green Curry Kit 253g | ALDI
£1.75 at aldi and similar at asda for £3.10. I think aldi also do a pad thai and a red curry version

Chilli jam for £1.59 Specially Selected Jalapeno Chilli Jam 305g | ALDI
£2.40 at asda

Brie de Meaux £2.69 Specially Selected Brie De Meaux 165g | ALDI £3.60 tesco

Basmati rice, pasta, balsamic, olive oil, mango chutney, BBQ sauce, salad cream, quilted toilet paper, kitchen rolls, stilton are all good. Vintage cheddar they had at Christmas, I think it was 36mth aged- amazing!

I generally find the fruit/veg hit and miss. Best used within 2 days or it goes off. I prefer lidl's grass fed beef steaks and I can't buy dog food from there.

Their cooked meat especially the corned beef slices and lunch tongue are good, happy with their crisps and always buy either the lightly seeded bread or the farmhouse white because it is much cheaper and we make packed lunches for work. Their bread seems to last much longer than branded bread

Annalisatheantelope · 25/07/2023 22:12

Moser Roth chocolate
Belmont chocolate chip cookies
All firm favourites.

BeverlyBrook · 25/07/2023 22:17

Best fake tan ever! The mousse. No smell, not patchy, lovely colour.

LuluGuinea · 25/07/2023 22:17

Moser Roth/Choceur chocolates

hummus

Steak pies

Carlos pizzas although I'm sad they don't do American Hot anymore

their pork joints

their sugar free peanut and almond butters

Ballycastle Irish cream especially the Clementine/white/hazelnut spread ones (raspberry ripple is horrible)

Chilli and soy calamari

Ragwort · 25/07/2023 22:24

Pinot Grigio Rose wine - £4.65 ish a bottle ... fabulous.

Seddon · 25/07/2023 22:24

How long has Aldi been going, I'm amazed this question still pops up every couple of weeks like it's a novelty.

It's just a cheap supermarket, most people buy whatever they normally buy. Much of the non-refrigerated stuff is a rebadged version of a well known brand.
