Holiday makers at it in hot tub...

We have a couple of converted barns as holiday rentals. Before anyone starts, no we can't get residential permission on them and no we don't make much money at all especially now the business electricity is so high (and no we don't get help for that). Anyway, they have good sized gardens and are not too far from the sea so attract families with small children this time of year. They also have hot tubs. Last night was the first warm and sunny evening since last check in and guests in one cottage (two adults) were having sex very loudly in their hot tub at 9pm (along with loud music). I'm not sure if they thought they couldn't be heard because a hot tub is pretty loud if you are in it. Or maybe they just don't care but hot tub noise is NOT loud to surrounding gardens, fields and houses and we can quite often hear people's slightly raised conversations in them. There are not many buildings or traffic noises around to drown out noises. I shuffled our kids off to bed pretty sharpish. The guests know we live on site when they book and have heard our neighbours kids during the day because their garden is almost next to theirs and also sound travels really, really well here. Anyway this has given us the ick big time. They are here until the weekend. I want to say something to them so it doesn't put off other guests. OH does not think we should (he also wants to get rid of all hot tubs asap!) and has dragged himself to work as per usual so it's just me and the kids. WWYD?

I tend not to rent places unless they have hot tubs. Not for shagging, just because I and the friends I rent with really like them. I wouldn't get rid of them OP. Tbh I'm not much of a pearl clutcher and I think the shit-ton of chemicals in them will protect me from unwanted pregnancies / STDs / scabies etc.

I've stayed in a few places with hot tubs and they are never that private so surprised everyone thinks sex in them is fine.

OP- In addition to info in the welcome pack, I'd just put a sign next to the hot tub about no noise after 10pm or whatever. Could you have an automatic switch which turns the outside lights/hot tub jets or whatever at the same time?

As a side note, I'd give them some antibiotics and a tube of canestan, as I would have thought sex in a hot tub could cause both a UTI and thrush 😬

I do wonder if people are just loud so the world knows they're having sex. I doubt there is a man/woman in the planet that be that you have scream and oohhh aarggg OMFG at the top of your lungs EVERY SINGLE TIME

This is why we drain, clean and refill our holiday let hot tubs between guests...!

They are empty and spotless on arrival so guest can see they are newly cleaned....

It's up to them what they do on holiday!! Just leave them to it. Get rid of the hot tubs if it bothers you but it would be extremely rude to say anything.

Further away than we are. It’s probably 50 metres from that hot tub to the front door of the next one. We are slightly nearer. But even if they had been 200m away you could have heard that! It was kind of like the prelude to performance parenting. Nice and loud…

It wouldn't be rude to ask them to not have sex so loud her children can hear it.

Thing is the guests have paid for a hot tub and will expect to be able to use it.

If it's emptied and they can't the OP is likely to face demands for money back and probably a bad review on whatever site they booked through

The guests are paying for facilities. She's running a business that will in part rely on good reviews. Don't do this, obviously

All the people who are saying they're entitled to have sex in the hot tub because they've paid for the accommodation and holiday, honestly, how would you feel if you were in the next cabin with your DC listening to that. I don't think it's the sex itself that people are talking about. It's the loud noise performance .
Of course have as much sex as you want in your holiday accommodation, just don't subject other people and children to that noise and have some class.

Do the posters saying 'I've paid so I'll do what I like' really have noisy outdoor sex whenever they go on holiday? What about the people in the next door accommodation who also paid and have to listen to it? I mean, whatever you've paid, don't you care about privacy? Or do you really not mind being overheard? I don't think it's prudish to not want to hear other people having sex - it's not a public activity, is it? It doesn't mean I think no one should have sex on holiday, just maybe not at volume in the garden??

Hot tubs in holiday lets are emptied, cleaned and refilled between guests. The only person it can be unpleasant for is the person responsible for cleaning it.
