Holiday makers at it in hot tub...

We have a couple of converted barns as holiday rentals. Before anyone starts, no we can't get residential permission on them and no we don't make much money at all especially now the business electricity is so high (and no we don't get help for that). Anyway, they have good sized gardens and are not too far from the sea so attract families with small children this time of year. They also have hot tubs. Last night was the first warm and sunny evening since last check in and guests in one cottage (two adults) were having sex very loudly in their hot tub at 9pm (along with loud music). I'm not sure if they thought they couldn't be heard because a hot tub is pretty loud if you are in it. Or maybe they just don't care but hot tub noise is NOT loud to surrounding gardens, fields and houses and we can quite often hear people's slightly raised conversations in them. There are not many buildings or traffic noises around to drown out noises. I shuffled our kids off to bed pretty sharpish. The guests know we live on site when they book and have heard our neighbours kids during the day because their garden is almost next to theirs and also sound travels really, really well here. Anyway this has given us the ick big time. They are here until the weekend. I want to say something to them so it doesn't put off other guests. OH does not think we should (he also wants to get rid of all hot tubs asap!) and has dragged himself to work as per usual so it's just me and the kids. WWYD?

I wouldn't get someone to rub a swab over your keyboard or phone if I were you. Far worse.

As far as I’m aware, people aren’t having sex of any kind on my keyboard or phone (or in the council pools…). Yes, hot tubs absolutely should be filtered properly between guests - how many actually are though.

Simonjt · 25/07/2023 15:17

It isn’t really a hygiene issue as water etc should be changed between each visitor, so really fro a hygiene point of view its the same as having sex in the shower. Noise however isn’t appropriate, no one should have to listen to that.

Surely if you have sex in water you then end up full of water? That can’t be good for you.

shadowchancesassy · 25/07/2023 15:17

Everyone squirming over a bit of sex in a hot tub, I'm presuming you've all stayed in hotels? The bath/shower/desk/bed/armchair/sofa/table l/vanity unit would have all been sexed over 😂 EVERYBODY should try hot tub banging at some point in life 😜

CastaniaBlush · 25/07/2023 15:19

I manage luxury villas, sex in a hot tub/jacuzzi isn't just a 'chav' thing.

DrFoxtrot · 25/07/2023 15:20

I can't understand how you can have sex in a hot tub, or any water, and not have it forced up your vagina Blush. I'm surprised people are so eager to do it.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 25/07/2023 15:27

Email them and say they were very noisy please keep it down and remind them that other windows are overlooking them.

Don't get rid of the hot tubs as you can charge so much more with them than without them

LorW · 25/07/2023 15:28

Just put a sign up next to the hot tubs warning people to be considerate with their noise levels as sound travels 😁

don’t know how people do it to be honest, water is not lubricating, ouch 😂

Seasideanticscanleadtosandybuckets · 25/07/2023 15:30

Op you need those poolside signs from swimming baths!!.

travellinglighter · 25/07/2023 15:32

To be fair, every time I hear someone has installed a home hot tub my first two thoughts are the price of the electricity and suburban sex pond.

321user123 · 25/07/2023 15:37

I find it shocking how many on here purposely somehow miss the whole point of the post?

It’s NOT THE SEX it’s the LOUD MOANING NOISE that’s the problem.

OP, send a very polite email requesting to keep noise down after say 9-10pm and be cautious of noise when outside as it travels very far and very well.
one of the first few post on page 1 we’re worded quite well.

I think those of you that have said to amend the welcome pack to remind people noise travels are probably right. However the people who are the most inconsiderate rarely read it so we are back to wondering. I have plans to change the layout a bit which might help the sound as well as make people more mindful there are neighbours. Maybe I will pop a not on the bottom of the hot tub rules next to the tub.

The welcome pack amendment is great..
but like you said the inconsiderate don’t read it…

What about a silly looking (maybe cartoonish?) notice somewhere heading out to the garden / towards hot tub that says…
Noise travels… VERY well. Even if you think it doesn’t. 🤭

Katey83 · 25/07/2023 15:50

Couples usually book getaways to have sex in a new location - I imagine this is not the first action hot tubs have seen. I would not be impressed if I hired a holiday let and got told off for having sex with my husband in it! Signs about noise for future guests and no more hot tubs (I imagine these only add to the electricity rates!)

You say that but it’s a family site

Not sure many parents would be happy with their child witnessing two strangers going at it. Even if it was silent!

A notice in your welcome pack and near the hot tub saying “please be mindful of your neighbours when using the hot tub - sound tends to travel further at night. Hot tubs must be vacated by 10pm and noise kept to a minimum after 8pm”

Or whatever times work for you

So, so gross. Another vote for getting rid of them, but I saw your update about how they make a difference to income in the winter, so it sounds like you need a the note above in the sign-up pack but also a sign by the tub itself.

Goes off to find bleach

JayWayney · 25/07/2023 16:08

Of course people are going to have sex on holiday. In beds, on sofas, in hot tubs. If we're going to be squeamish we'd never sleep in a hotel bed. Seeing that OP is meticulous with cleaning between guests, the issue is the sound. Just the same as if the guests pulled cushions out and had al fresco sex on dry land. Which can be good, under the stars with a gentle breeze.

My reaction would depend on how long they are booked for. I didn't notice in any of your posts how long they are staying for. If they are leaving tomorrow, I'd say nothing. If they will be with you longer I think you do need to send emails out to all your guests. The non noisy shagggers might appreciate that you are addressing the issue. It can be quite a general reminder that sound carries a lot further than one might imagine.

Going forward, your idea of an addition to the guidance notes for the hot tubs sounds like a good idea.

Lastnightschips · 25/07/2023 16:13

It’s probably been mentioned already that hot tubs were known on here as chlamydia soup. And I know of a group of women who had a group sex in a hot tub and all ended up with a nasty rash which meant they had to tell their partners that they’d been up to no good with the hired help…

I have cleaned my hands A LOT since checking the chemical levels! There were a lot of fag butts about near their front door which probably means the inside will be grim when they leave. I will get to re-designing the sign in a minute. No other people have come forward and had a word so maybe they were out for dinner…fingers crossed.

I despise hot tubs. They're human soup, full of semen and piss. You couldn't pay me to dip my toe in one of them.

This. I watched a programme years ago called something like " How clean is your house?". They did swabs of the jets of a hot tub. Faecal matter, skin, every bacteria you could think of. Absolutely filthy disgusting things if you own one and only use it yourself. Unbelievably revolting in a holiday cottage and impossible to properly clean between guests. You're just sitting in a warm soup of other peoples bacteria and adding yours to it for the next people.

TomatoSandwiches · 25/07/2023 16:28

If you have an older child send them round to make noises at them like Forest Gump did in the film.

LlynTegid · 25/07/2023 16:29

Empty it when they are out tomorrow, as it needs cleaning. Don't refill until they are gone.

If they ask why, tell them. If they don't like it, tough.

Iwant2move · 25/07/2023 16:38

I cleaned someone else’s holiday property last Friday. It was left clean by the guests but the bedding was gross. I had to bring it home to wash on a super stain removal wash for babies and toddlers. Bed linen, pillows, protectors, duvets all needed washing thoroughly. On Sunday, I started with diarrhoea, fever, chills, nausea. It’s the beds you need to worry about more than the hot tubs (this is for the squeamish of hot tub types). Bodily fluids and solids are a hazard of looking after holiday properties.

Ugh.. lose the tubs. They are only ever going to be used for sex.

Don’t get rid of them. They may be rank but by crikey, punters love them.

We also have holiday cottages with private gardens and hot tubs.

Prettyvase · 25/07/2023 16:46

They are also called Wank Tanks

Iolani · 25/07/2023 17:02

Wow.
Why did it never occur to me that people would have sex in a hot tub. ( Not being sarcastic )
I must have had my head in the sand.
Im now quite grossed out.
The examples of bacteria, semen and faeces in the tub is making me wish I didn’t have a big lunch.
Thankyou MNs for enlightening me,

JenWillsiam · 25/07/2023 17:03

I’m astonished you think this isn’t a regular thing.
