I knew he was ill, but had hoped (as always, I suppose) that he would recover.

Sad.

Oh thats awful, I was interviewed by him (a very very long time ago), he was very kind and patient with my nerves.

I liked him as a newsreader. I remember when he first announced he was ill and then when it had come back again.

RIP.

KitchenSinkLlama · 24/07/2023 12:12

So very sad. I regularly make his dhal, it's on the bbc website. I’ll cook up a pot in his memory.

So sad. He was indeed a national treasure.

AutumnCrow · 24/07/2023 12:13

I knew he was very ill, bless him. He was part of the furniture really, in terms of watching the TV news.

implantsandaDyson · 24/07/2023 12:20

That's very sad - I'll always remember his reporting on Rwanda. He was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the same time as my Dad and silly as it sounds we always kept an eye out for him on the TV.

LegendsBeyond · 24/07/2023 12:21

Very sad. I’d heard his cancer had come back.

gogomoto · 24/07/2023 12:21
