Age 67. He had cancer.

I liked him as a new reader

My favourite newsreader...
Poor Clive Myrie struggled to keep it together bless him...

QueenofHebdenBridge · 24/07/2023 13:22

I'm genuinely sad about this. He seemed like such a genuinely lovely man & had a real sense of peace about him. I will miss his calm, reassuring way of reporting the news. RIP George.

MrsPositivity1 · 24/07/2023 13:23

He just seemed so lovely (and handsome). So saddened for his family

ArcaneWireless · 24/07/2023 13:25

A man who always came across as dignified, kind and a true and gentle man.

A beautiful tribute on the news and Clive’s sorrow was hard to observe. His personal tribute was heartfelt and a lovely testament to his friend and colleague.

RIP.

So sad. He seemed like a really nice man. My mum has the same illness, so he was kind of a beacon for us of 'Look, it doesn't have to mean the end.' I feel so sorry for his family.

Willmafrockfit · 24/07/2023 15:10

that news has upset me,
i did like him

Gracewithoutend · 24/07/2023 15:16

He seemed like a really lovely, unassuming man. It's so very sad.

We, like several other posters who have commented, saw George as a beacon of hope when our loved one got diagnosed with bowel cancer only a few months after he announced his diagnosis. We lost our loved one last year. RIP to George, a fantastic journalist, and thoughts with all affected by bowel cancer.

KitchenSinkLlama · 24/07/2023 15:23

For those who have decided to cook his dhal. Make lots, it's lovely.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 24/07/2023 15:25

67 is no age
RIP George

Interviewdoldrums · 24/07/2023 15:48

I knew he was ill, but had hoped (as always, I suppose) that he would recover.

Sad.

He had known for a long time that it was incurable

Between him and Huw Edwards the bbc news won't be the same!

Namechange828492 · 24/07/2023 16:24

So sad,

PrincessFiorimonde · 24/07/2023 17:10

I was sorry to hear this. I agree with the previous poster who said he exuded both warmth and gravitas.

Duckafuk · 24/07/2023 17:24

Very sad news.

JemimaTab · 24/07/2023 17:48

I was very sad to hear about this - he was my favourite newsreader, always so calm and he seemed like such a nice man.
The tributes have been lovely - he was clearly well loved by his colleagues and friends (and that’s not something you can say about everybody).

embolass · 24/07/2023 18:22

Sophie Raworth did an excellent job presenting the 6 pm news tonight on the death of a friend and colleague 🥲

That's so sad. He was also a talented writer. I liked him a lot.

Hunching2 · 24/07/2023 20:33

I don’t recall ever feeling so sad about hearing such news regarding someone I didn’t know personally. RIP George. A gentle man .

Passe · 24/07/2023 20:34

Just to add that my DH did some work for him some years ago and said he was a genuinely nice man Sad

Willmafrockfit · 24/07/2023 21:00

they said on the news when he went off for cancer treatment he had thousands of letters from viewers - a well loved newsreader.
