Anyone else got their heating on?

Bloody freezing in Hartlepool today! Heavy rain, highs of 11c!!! Massive puddles everywhere already!

Been to an outside event and even in my winter coat I've come back in properly cold. Even with a change of clothes, blanket and hot water bottle i was feeling chilly so ive given in and put the heating on but feel ridiculous considering it's meant to be high summer!

Nowhere near putting the heating on. All our windows are wide open 24/7 at thr moment.

DitheringBlidiot · 24/07/2023 06:46

I'm in Yorkshire and it has stopped raining now, but by 8pm yesterday it had rained non stop for 24 hours. There was no 'between showers" or "lovely breeze".

Tbh I wouldn't have believed it could be this cold and wet in July before we moved here but yesterday I was walking the dog in leggings, wellies, a fleece and a raincoat. I wasn't cold whilst walking but I certainly wasn't too warm.

Everything was damp and the air felt cold. I didn't put the heating on but I did sit on the sofa with a blanket. Luckily it seems brighter and drier today.

Leeds here. I lit the stove on Saturday evening, it's raining and has been for days, everything is just so wet. Any residual heat left the house last week - the temperature is getting up to a balmy 15°. But as we've had virtually no sunshine it feels cooler.

Absolutely not!

windows open here. Been out walking and hiking in the rain, totally bliss! Never keeps me indoors

We’re not talking about the rain (which many of us walk dogs in, go running in, etc etc), we’re talking about cold, damp weather. If your windows are open all day then it’s obviously warm enough where you are to do that.

Nottogetapenny · 24/07/2023 08:35

Not far from you OP! Had to put my oodie on last night! My feet were freezing when I go into bed, took a while to warm up.

QuestionableMouse · 24/07/2023 09:26

Bloody cold and miserable here still! Really not looking forward to going out to work today!

The sun's out in Whitley Bay! We're taking two of my wife's friends up to Blancland in a short while, hope it holds up!

Annaisatwat · 24/07/2023 10:18

No, but I seriously considered it the other night in the West Midlands. I’ve been wearing cardigans and socks to bed like in the winter.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 24/07/2023 10:19

Another one here on the North East coast of England. It's been shite, and at 10/11 degrees my feet were freezing last night. My poor 11 yr old DD went to bed last night in her oodie and thick wool socks (she's got hypothyroidism and raynauds)

I've realised that it's almost August and I've had zero need to get my fan out yet this year. (Cool air thingy that is - I'm not a flasher!)

QuestionableMouse · 24/07/2023 10:50

It looks nicer outside today but it's really windy and the air is cold! Had to close the window vents as well as the windows because the back of the flat was freezing with the wind blowing in!

Expecting the lane at work to be flooded too which is always fun 😩😬

There was a high of 13 degrees outside where I am yesterday, but the thermostat didn't drop below 19 inside

Sounds like some people need to look at their insulation. The house shouldn't be getting that cold!

Bit hard in a rented flat!

Single figures before you put your heating on? That sounds miserable.

It's not a specific decision/strict rule. I just don't feel cold enough to put the heating on until its really cold, probably closer to 0. I love wearing thick jumpers and snuggling under a blanket. We have a heated blanket on the bed also. It's definitely not miserable 😂

Starsandrain · 24/07/2023 15:05

No. I’m warm enough (in jeans and cardi) it’s just so wet and grey and miserable.

Zero before you put the heating on? Yeah, that’s miserable - and not great for your property either.

Its only miserable if you find it cold, we don't so we're definitely not miserable. If we felt cold we'd stick it on at any point. Everyone in the house is free to put it on.

But yes, probably not good for the property.

SirChenjins · 24/07/2023 17:23

Definitely not good for the property - or your health. There’s lots online about the optimum temperature for both - but obviously if cost is an issue then you do what you have to do.

SinnerBoy · 24/07/2023 17:33

We were up at Derwent Reservoir and Blanchard today. I was overcast, a few spots of rain, but mild. It was windy, but it stopped very suddenly.

It got really black as we left, driving into a lovely blue sky, with wispy clouds. It's 18° now.

Dontcallmescarface · 24/07/2023 17:54

Glemarand · 23/07/2023 18:15

I'd have to be suffering from hypothermia before the heating went on in July. And be very rich. And not have a conscience about the environment. And have gone mad.

Well aren't you the lucky one to be in a position where the cold and damp doesn't affect your joints or circulation...big pat on the back and a gold star for you.

Well, the OP didn't actually mention any health conditions, so that's a bit unnecessary when people are simply replying to the thread.

SirChenjins · 25/07/2023 21:45

And they can do that without the snarky comments about people who do being mad or not having a conscience about the environment. The only bit they got right was that often people who do put the heating on have circulatory problems - lucky for that poster they don’t.

noglow · 25/07/2023 21:57

I'd love to be toasty right now but I can't justify the cost. My joints ache but still. Water bottles tonight

Emamazing · 25/07/2023 21:58

Yep. It's freezing here, got the heating on and wrapped up in thick layers and got my youngest DD fast asleep on my lap.

QuestionableMouse · 25/07/2023 22:00

It's cold here too! I'm in bed with my hot water bottle for my feet which are like blocks of ice!

I had the heating on for a while earlier. I had washing to dry (as usual it has been pouring) and I felt a bit chilly so I used the heating rather than the tumble dryer.

I don't like having the heating on this time of year but neither do I like having to use the tumble dryer.

The weather has been total shit this year. I laugh every time I hear someone say June was the hottest ever. It certainly wasn't in the East Midlands.
