Mumsnet.

Stairs, weirdly.

I’m only 49, fit as a flea - I feel in my 30s. But about 5 years ago, I found myself being a bit more careful when going down steps, especially in the dark.

Probably a result of presbyopia and decreasing night vision. Yay, menopause 👏🏻

coodawoodashooda · 22/07/2023 23:15

People too. And invitations

Ibizafun · 22/07/2023 23:15

Risky sports like skiing and crazy fair rides!

Stairs. I kick off my slip-on slippers/shoes at the bottom of the stairs and go up stockinged feet or barefoot. Am 68, in good shape and been doing this for the last two years.

I haven't "had a fall" and don't want one.

Freesideofcringe · 22/07/2023 23:21

People’s intentions.
Friends and how friendly they really are.
The capacity for jealousy.

Toobusytoocare · 22/07/2023 23:26

Walking . This is after falling over in broad daylight ,on dry ground with sensible shoes on ! Broken arm dislocated my shoulder. It was awful because I had nothing to blame apart from my clumsiness.
Am only in my 50s so can 100% understand why falling in the elderly destroys their confidence!

Cincinnatus · 22/07/2023 23:26

Driving in the dark! Really loathe it.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 22/07/2023 23:28

Walking alone.

Never, ever bothered me as a youngun. I'd walk home at 2/3am after work no problem.

Now I'm nervous walking in the dark.

Almostwelsh · 22/07/2023 23:29

Anything where I might fall over. These days if I fall over I feel like I've been in a car crash.

QuillBill · 22/07/2023 23:29

Teeth.

BotherThat · 22/07/2023 23:29

Drinking. Can’t handle the hangovers any more (I’m 44)

Groutyonehereagain · 22/07/2023 23:30

I’ve stopped horse riding, even though I love it.

Mananarama · 22/07/2023 23:30

Heights.
Fairground rides.
Lakes.
Neighbours.
Horses.

Walking, even (especially) in my home.
after three very bad falls, caused by fuck all except my fraility, walking unaided would be silly.
I now use a rollater inside and out (different ones) to get around. My next step is to get one for upstairs only. I already have a stair lift.

Another one with fear of falling.

Finlesswonder · 22/07/2023 23:32

Drugs. Fair rides.

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/07/2023 23:32

Wet floors. I broke my leg last year by slipping on wet laminate flooring.

Daffodil63 · 22/07/2023 23:33

Cleaning products. I use them then get stressed about the chemicals in them, then spend even more time rinsing the area, always wear rubber gloves now, and then worry about the environment and the family health-totally stresses me out

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 22/07/2023 23:33

Icy weather (after falling)
Stairs (also after falling)
Overly friendly people when I don't know them

MerylSqueak · 22/07/2023 23:34

Kerbs. My hyper mobile ankles are not kind to me.

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 22/07/2023 23:36

Money .
