What time do people do to bed?

Just curious really, I have lost perspective because I have children with additional needs that don't sleep but I also run a business and have lots of people message late and early (after 10pm and before 6am). I never know what time is appropriate to message people back either. My husband seems to believe that anything before midnight is early and I'm not sure it is. Just wanted perspectives.

I wouldn't message someone after 9pm, 10pm if it is urgent.

eyeoresancerre · 22/07/2023 17:38

10pm but I'm at 5.50am and I like my sleep! My friend goes to bed at 1am and I cannot imagine how tired she must be. She is up at 6am. I just couldn't do it. But which one of us is the anomaly- that I'm not sure of. It will be interesting to watch this thread.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 22/07/2023 17:40

I'm usually in bed by 9.30, often before, so would not appreciate business calls at that time of night.

Blueskysunflower · 22/07/2023 17:41

I’m asleep somewhere between 11pm and 1am. If by message you mean email I don’t think there is such a thing as too late, it just lands in an inbox to be read whenever convenient.

If you mean a phone/text/WhatsApp kind of message I’d take a dim view of receiving one after about 10pm (or before around 8am) - I’m awake at that time precisely because I like the peace and quiet and being undisturbed. I was brought up that, emergency aside, it’s rude to phone after 10pm unless expected and agreed and I extend that to texts and the like.

Wigglewigglewitch · 22/07/2023 17:42

I go to bed at 10.30 - 11 and my phone is always on silent so messages at any time are fine. If you call me after 10 I will think something terrible has happened.

Niftyswiftie · 22/07/2023 17:45

My phone is on do not disturb overnight so doesn't make any difference when messages come through.
I'm in bed for 11ish usually and get up at 6.15am (weekdays)

ThunderclapCloud · 22/07/2023 17:46

Another one up at 5.30am and I'm usually in bed by 9pm.

As for messaging - I turn my phone off or put it on do not disturb when I don't want to receive stuff. As such, I receive a fair few messages when I fire up my phone, but I don't reply until I see that they've been online, or at least till normal working hours.

I'll email at any time as I'd expect people not to look at those until they are ready to read them. If they have their email notifications turned on it's their lookout 😎

AlwaysWantingIceLollies · 22/07/2023 17:48

My phone goes into its do not disturb mode from 9.30pm and not on again till 6am.

Hummusanddipdip · 22/07/2023 17:50

I'm usually in bed and asleep by 10.30, although pregnancy has me falling asleep with ds at 8ish most evenings. Up at 6.30ish weekdays.

Any contact between 11pm and 5am I'd worry something had happened.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 22/07/2023 17:50

I have kids with additional needs who sleep sparingly so I sleep when they do 🤷‍♀️
I've been known to be asleep at 7pm but up for the day at 11pm 😩

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 22/07/2023 17:52

Bed at 10pm ( usually asleep on sofa by 8pm 😂🤣)
up at 6am for work every morning.

GigiAnnna · 22/07/2023 17:53

Depends, sometimes I'll go up at 9 but I won't go to sleep till about 11

generalexpert · 22/07/2023 17:57

In bed at 11 and up at 5. Phone on so not disturb from 22:30 to 0800. Don't think I'd be too keen on a phone call much after 1900.

Burntopan · 22/07/2023 18:00

Bed for 9pm if not earlier- try to sleep by 9:30/10pm.

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 22/07/2023 18:03

Bed at 9 or 10. Asleep around midnight.

Awake at about 8.

We send business texts to lots of customers. I wouldn't dream of sending them after 8.30pm, and try to send them by 7.30pm

Yahyahs22 · 22/07/2023 18:16

I'm asleep around midnight at up at half 5 with the kids. I'm tired in the day but weirdly, more tired if I get more sleep.

greglet · 22/07/2023 18:18

9pm but I have a one year old who either sleeps through but wakes at 5.30 or sleeps till 6.15ish but wakes during the night 🫠

Before I had him, and I had to get up at 6.50, I'd go to bed between 10 and 10.30.

EarringsandLipstick · 22/07/2023 18:19

I'm up at 530 so ideally I'd be in bed by 9 or 915. A big change from my younger years where I was baffled that anyone went to bed at 10, which seemed like early evening to me!
However DC are busy with sports often till 9 or after - meaning it's rare I get to bed before 10, it's often after & I'm over-tired & end up not sleeping till the early hours.

Freesideofcringe · 22/07/2023 18:22

11 and wake up at 7

Sweetashunni · 22/07/2023 18:24

I have a baby which has thrown things up in the air as he drops off for his long stretch at 11-12pm, in normal times lights off between 10.30 and 11, up at 7

Ragwort · 22/07/2023 18:25

I don't have a 'set' bedtime ... anywhere between 9pm & midnight. Ideally 11pm and read for an hour and then sleep until 7am but (& I'm not sure why really - I lead a pretty stress free life with no young DC at home) I often fall asleep too early and then wake ridiculously early.

But regarding messaging .. I wouldn't message anyone after 9pm or before 9am unless really urgent.

VisionsOfSplendour · 22/07/2023 18:26

There's no universal answer to this as it's very individual, there won't be a concencous

If you are answering business messages do it during your business hours, I wouldn't worry about what time the message was sent. Say I don't mind if you ring me at 3am how does that help you, you're not suddenly going to start doing business in the small hours for all your customers are you?

devildeepbluesea · 22/07/2023 18:26

I’m usually in bed before 8, but I don’t watch much telly. I tend to listen to the radio then sleep around 9-9.30. Awake by 5.30ish. I need around 7 hours sleep.

renamedbutsame · 22/07/2023 18:27

always aim to sleep from 10 pm to 7 pm

renamedbutsame · 22/07/2023 18:27

7 am LOL
