We don’t do hitting as it is possible for that to dissolve into madness. So we just do shouting out.

what do u do if two people say it at the exact same time. I said just get a point each or half a point my husband thought that was an awful idea.

Point each!

AlligatorPsychopath · 22/07/2023 12:23

Well clearly you have to settle it with a round of "Brians of Britain".

But personally I think points are not in the spirit of Yellow Car anyway.

Bananas1350 · 22/07/2023 12:26

@AlligatorPsychopath 😂😂😂 do u not so points then. My husbands face when I said that someone had posted that was a picture

Our game has expanded so much. It includes yellow cars, green, orange, pink, gold and purple cars, minis ( big minis are a separate category), beetles and pick up trucks. If we're playing it on a long journey then we play for points with some of those being worth more points than others.

I don't know how this happened 😂

SuffolkUnicorn · 22/07/2023 12:40

Our game sounds similar 😂

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 22/07/2023 12:55

Our yellow car game has moved into "That's not yellow, that's mustard/orange/saffron etc", which has really expanded my DC's vocabulary of yellow shades and exasperated me. There is also one point for a Fiat 500 and anyone who sees a yellow Fiat 500 gets a million points and wins for the whole day. There used to be only one yellow Fiat 500 in all of south Dublin so it was quite a rare thing, but now there are at least three (one each with a Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare plate) so we recently saw a yellow Fiat 500 three times in one day. Shock

My DC are older teens now so keep reminding me that yellow car is a little kids' game whenever I see a yellow car first, however if they see one first then it's still a valid point to them apparently. Grin

Bananas1350 · 22/07/2023 13:06

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar 😂😂😂 u have just made the entire car laugh 😂 brilliant.

FrivolousTreeDuck · 22/07/2023 13:08

Both lose a point.

AffIt · 22/07/2023 13:10

Depends - are you playing Fitton Rules or Liechtenstein Rules?

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 22/07/2023 13:11

When you see a yellow car, say yellow car. Points are very Not In The Spirit.

Bananas1350 · 22/07/2023 13:12

@AffIt we appear to be using the rules that would appear to me be made up on the spot when someone isn’t happy 🤣

We play the rainbow game.
You have to seee vehicles in all the colours of the rainbow consecutively, starting at red and working through to purple: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple.
Bonus points if you see pink.
Depending on how many players and their age you might allow 'banking' of a colour (so, if you see a green car at the start you can bank that for later and then skip from yellow to blue), or if you're feeling generous you might allow a pass on one, decided before you start.

This! I've had to put car number plate into vehicle checker to check if the car is yellow or orange!

HugoDarracott · 22/07/2023 13:16

No points in our games and we hit. Only absolute rule is you can't cover the eyes of the person driving the car.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/07/2023 13:17

I had a thread on this a while ago. I had never ever heard of the yellow car game. Apparently it's quite common!

Bananas1350 · 22/07/2023 13:20

@Toddlerteaplease i think it is. We don’t do hitting though. I feel that would go into a downward spiral very quickly.

We settle this based on the DVLA website - if you put the reg plate in it'll tell you if it's officially classed as yellow. As a result we now have a race when leaving the flat to hit each other for the very obviously green SEAT Ibiza that's usually parked on our street, which the DVLA has inexplicably decided is yellow 😳

Don't know what the ROI equivalent of the DVLA is but you must have a similar gov't site??

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 22/07/2023 13:24

Our game is we pick a colour each and if that colour passes us or we pass it on motorway we get a point. Not fair when DH picks black and DD silver/white and I get green! I however class the big green Eddie Stobarts as 50 😂

BookShark · 22/07/2023 13:31

I don't understand this whole yellow car thing. Surely the real game is yellow field. With a healthy sprinkling of Mornington Crescent style rules (e.g. it doesn't count because it's next to another yellow field/I get double because there's a tractor in it etc.).

Or pub cricket. But that's not so good for a motorway journey.

catin8oots · 22/07/2023 13:31

We don't do points we just punch. First to punch is the winner. If the car isn't yellow (say goldish or greenish) then they get punched back

Parked cars don't count

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 22/07/2023 13:31

I think there probably is a site to look up reg plates in Ireland, unfortunately my short term memory is too shit to remember them (which is why there may be more than three yellow Fiat 500s in my area, but I can only remember the D/WW/KE difference). I'm always driving because I hate being a passenger so I can't make a note or take a photo. Anyway, just because the authorities think a colour is yellow it wouldn't stop my DC arguing that it is not, in fact, yellow. And given the Irish govt's history of being epically mistaken about many things, they have a point.

Whichwhatnow · 22/07/2023 13:32

OP we just say 'draw' and neither gets a point if we hit each other at the same time.

Does anyone else do 'yellow car of the day'? Usually either a car that was really hard to spot or something fancy like a yellow sports car (or ridiculous like a yellow SMART car or a kids' toy ride-on car or something). So every day we can either win the day based on points, win car of the day (which is usually agreed surprisingly amicably!) or both/neither!

We actually have a yellow car (an old convertible Mini), and I'm still yet to see anyone playing yellow car when they see us which is highly disappointing 😆

Sprogonthetyne · 22/07/2023 13:39

We've never done points, just hitting.

TimeToMoveIt · 22/07/2023 13:53

My ds says it's the first one to get the 2 punches in 🤣
