We don’t do hitting as it is possible for that to dissolve into madness. So we just do shouting out.

what do u do if two people say it at the exact same time. I said just get a point each or half a point my husband thought that was an awful idea.

Apparently it was Redbubble @itsmeafterall. You put Cabin Pressure in as a search term and it brings up loads of designs.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/07/2023 15:44

Ah, ok. I had never heard of it before Cabin Pressure.

I got sick of the hitting for yellow car - and 'mini' slaps so banned it. We now spot foreign number plates and have to get the country right too to get any points.

FlamingYam · 23/07/2023 20:38

We just tap each other. No points, no pain.

csandsickofit · 23/07/2023 20:46

We used to do lorries, each child got a list of common lorries (sainsburys, Iceland etc) and they got a point for each one they saw.

Mine were 6 years apart and still worked for both.

Our game has expanded so much. It includes yellow cars, green, orange, pink, gold and purple cars, minis ( big minis are a separate category), beetles and pick up trucks. If we're playing it on a long journey then we play for points with some of those being worth more points than others.

I don't know how this happened 😂

Ha ha ha our game expanded to Yellow Car bosh bosh, which then extended to just say bosh bosh when we saw one and then to a kind of bsshhh bsshhh to indicate we had seen one. We then added "cheeks cars" which was my daughters explanation of a car that had what looked like cheeks at the front i.e. sports cars - they were the same as yellow cars but if you saw a yellow cheeks car it was double points. Pink cars were then added at 100 points so effectively any pink car trumped the game for the day.

Desperatenow1 · 23/07/2023 21:00

We haven't ever hit or punched, we started playing it with our daughter when she was little and hitting or punching hasn't been part of our family dynamic.

We also don't allow yellow taxis as often play it when we're in the US and theres just too many yellow taxis to keep it fun.

EllaMenopee · 23/07/2023 21:07

Punches here rather than points but not allowed to hit the driver. Mainly because my dc insist on sitting in the back so they can hit me more easily than I can hit them.

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar we add in yellow regs (also in Ireland). Yellow car with a yellow reg is a triple

TheSmallAssassin · 23/07/2023 21:14

No points for a draw, but one of you should have jinxed the other if you really did say it at exactly the same time.

SprinkleRainbow · 23/07/2023 21:27

We give a point each for saying it at the same time. Lorries have to have a yellow cab or they don't count.
Minis don't count because they're way more orange than yellow.

SwattyPie · 23/07/2023 21:38

My teen DD went through a stage of blowing me a kiss instead of hitting after I complained about the violence. It didn't last long, but it was lovely for a while. I'll take that, and yes, I am that needy 😂

reelcat · 23/07/2023 22:11

No points, gentle hits (but not the driver). Jinx if said at same time

dreamonlucid · 23/07/2023 22:12

Love this thread I owned a yellow car and delighted in knowing the utter chaos I created daily 🤣

mulesrules · 23/07/2023 22:34

Oh it's very much points in our family. And very competitive too. Not in the spirit you say. Hmmm I can't see us doing it just for fun sorry 🤣

Littlefish · 23/07/2023 22:35

'Yellow mini roof-off soft top' was always the absolute pinnacle of the game on our family.

mulesrules · 23/07/2023 22:35

No hitting though. And if two people shout it at exactly the same time it's a point each. Once on a 4 hour journey bringing DS back from Uni we had a combined total of 57. (I won)

PerpetuallyIndecisive · 23/07/2023 23:07

This thread has brought me so much JOY! We’re Cabin Pressure yellow car players, but, like many of you, have our own rules now. No hitting, and we mostly can’t be arsed to keep score. Yellow Minis allows extra smugness and a yellow VW camper van is the top find. My husband and I argue every time we see a yellow Mini that he thinks is orange and I think is yellow. Our three year old DS saw a yellow car in a carpark today and shouted “YELLOW CAR”. Might have been our proudest parenting moment to date.

Family rules also state that taxis don’t count and you have to be in car yourself to play Yellow Car.

Bananas1350 · 24/07/2023 12:00

I saw five yellow cars in a car park this morning. But apparently that is not ‘in the rules ‘ as I was by myself. Hmmmmm

I've just come back to this thread to tell you all that I saw a yellow Fiat 500 Abarth. Shock Nobody else in my life but you lot really understands the excitement. Not even DD (who saw it first and got the million points) was excited about it being an Abarth, she only cared that it was a yellow Fiat 500 so she beat me.

So now there are at least three yellow Fiat 500s plus a yellow Abarth in my part of Dublin.

Zimunya · 25/08/2023 14:41

This thread has made me laugh so much. IRL I don't know any other families that play "Yellow Car" so I have found my people! We play for points, and every journey is separate. Once I was in a taxi in Hong Kong, and inadvertently shouted "yellow car" when I saw one, and then had to explain this madness to the taxi driver. He was lovely, and entered into the game with gusto, but probably went home and told his family about the crazy gweilo he met at work!

@Bananas1350 - do you have a shared WhatsApp family group? If so, take a photo, post it, and write "5 yellow cars!" We get points if we're on our own but can "prove" the sighting :)

BaronessBomburst · 25/08/2023 15:01

DS also spots Dutch number plates, worth double if they're a camper or towing a caravan, and extra points again if they've got bicycles on the back. We just got back from driving around Croatia, Austria, and Germany and listening to DS regularly yelling "There's only 17 million of them, but they get everywhere!". 😂

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 25/08/2023 15:23

Our one has always included the rule that you have to say "Good news!" When you see a Dacia Sandero. DD has happily played along with this for years, never questioning it, and then finally realised the reason for it when an old episode of Top Gear was on Dave a few weeks back.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 25/08/2023 15:44

Our version of yellow car gives points according to the number of wheels. Causes interesting arguments about whether it’s the tractor unit and the trailer or whether the fancy yellow speedboat on a trailer is valid.

We’re in Canada, where very long car journeys are standard and there are a surprisingly large number of yellow cars. We have a Fiat 500 locally which looks really small up against the big Trucks. And a yellow Hummer. Any many Mustangs and Chargers.

@Bananas1350 I seem to remember a previous yellow car thread with a picture of that car transporter on it. Do you have the photo?
