Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I've just had breakfast & am now in my kitchen spot drinking tea from my fancy tea set. The window's open & it's silent apart from the odd birdsong & the fridge humming away. No-one else is up yet but I can hear dd2 moving about upstairs. Don't think she'll be up for a while yet though. Bliss 😊 This is my favourite part of the week.

I think today will be a very steady one - I had my 10th chemo yesterday, then went for lunch with dd1, and then got talked into meeting some colleagues for end of term drinks. I was only staying out a couple of hours...rolled in at 11pm 🙈 I haven't laughed so much in a loooong time. Surprisingly, I'm feeling quite chipper this morning!

We're meant to be heading into town for birthday presents but I might see if the girls want to go another day instead. Dd2 will probably appreciate a lazy day.

If we don't go to town, I'm going to finish painting another set of props for work - Hansel and Gretel this time. The figures are done, I just need to finish the house. I'm chuffed to bits with my tiny crochet witch hat, and the mini broom I've made.

The girls will probably mooch about doing not much 🤷‍♀️ I'll get them to help me write a shopping list at some point - I really need to do a shop this week.

No idea what's for tea yet, something easy from the freezer. And then an early one for me I think after a bit of crochet

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning Lucysmam and others. You sound very productive. I have just returned yesterday from a holiday with the family to Spain. We had a lovely time but I'm glad to be home. I've had two cups of coffee, the last of the holiday washes is on and waiting for a tesco delivery in the next half hour. Today will be spent pottering around, ironing what has dried and a bit of desultory weeding. Roast chicken for dinner

brownbeauty80 · 22/07/2023 08:42

Day 2 of bathroom renovation today
House is a mess
But feeling content that we are getting home improvements done
Kitchen next month
This is a very expensive year

I'm a bit depressed and reading these makes me so sad and jealous. (Happy for you of course!!!!). I just miserable teens who don't want to do anything.

Aw @SavedbytheBe11 I'm sorry you feel like that 😢 Mine have their moments of asshole ish ness too, it's not all fun stuff. They can usually be persuaded to venture out, or do things here with me, though.

Thank you @lucysmam - sorry put a dampener on your thread. Perhaps I will get some ideas from it :)

RightOnTheEdge · 22/07/2023 08:49

Good morning @lucysmam! That sounds like a nice Saturday.

I'm sat in bed procrastinating.
Dd was supposed to be going to football training this morning but the trainer cancelled it because it's absolutely bucketing down.

I'm thinking about braving the weather and walking to the shop because I fancy a bacon sandwich and maybe get some popcorn or something to watch the Lionesses play 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I need to have a good clean and tidy this afternoon and then probably try and read a book or something. I'm usually a bookworm but can't seem to settle with anything lately, just keep starting things and not picking them back up.
I've started Away With The Penguins now so might snuggle up with that and a hot chocolate and see if I can actually get into it.

DogsvsCats · 22/07/2023 08:49

Morning,

Lie in with a coffee at the moment. Need to walk dogs and do some cutting back at the allotment.

Kids are entertaining themselves in various ways; one is on holiday with pals, one is off for a shop & splurge with pals, the other is heavily invested in their gaming for the day...so other than providing lifts and food, it's a lighter parenting day.

Off to see Oppenheimer this evening.

treacledan71 · 22/07/2023 08:52

Morning. Glad you had a good night. We are away tomorrow for a few days so want to clean the house and pack. Feeling a bit mean as cat going to the cattery so had to shut all windows and lock cat flap stop her going out as she has the tendency to dissappear for hours. She will be going 9.30 with DH so not long to go. She is laid out on the sofa and I told no one to move her! In case she tries to go out and seems happy enough. Sure she won't be once in the cat basket. I hope you have a good day. X

febbabies2023 · 22/07/2023 08:52

Good morning!

I've had a lie in this morning as DP got up with the kids (5m and 3yrs) and has taken them out for the morning

So I'm going to get up, and have a nice cup of tea in silence

Them im putting on my music and getting this housework done in peace
After that I'll have some breakfast and hopefully get to the gym before they all come home

Then an afternoon with the kids, might take them out somewhere, not sure yet :)

Have a lovely day all!

WombatBombat · 22/07/2023 08:55

It’s chucking it down here and will be all day. Up with DS and watching the women’s World Cup under a blanket.

Going to have a second coffee and then might see if DH fancies lunch out later. Other than that, will be a duvet day & I need to sort out DS’ clothes and toys, as they seem to be multiplying!

MeinKraft · 22/07/2023 08:56

Good morning. Your weekend sounds lovely @lucysmam.

My lovely mum died last week and I don't really feel fit to do much. I may go and visit my family or might just hang about home. Maybe I need a lovely book to distract me but I can't seem to engage with anything. I feel guilty that the kids are spending their summer holidays watching telly basically...maybe in a week or two I'll be able to take them to fun places again.

IHeartGeneHunt · 22/07/2023 08:56

Morning! We were up at six because the 4 year old wanted to watch Cbeebies. I've got a horrible sore throat and sciatica in my hip and want nothing more than to go back to bed, but I can't and I'm fed up! Going to do very little today.

ThreeRingCircus · 22/07/2023 08:58

Morning everyone, I've been up since 6am as DDs woke early. They're currently watching CBeebies and I'm on my second cup of tea, we've all had buttered toast for breakfast.

Today I'm visiting a friend that's had a new baby and then I want a mooch around the charity shops as I'm looking for some new (to me) glassware.... particularly wine glasses but I like to buy second hand. DH will probably stay at home and entertain DDs as charity shop trips are not his thing really!

No idea what's for dinner yet, probably whatever is lurking in the freezer!

PernickityKitty · 22/07/2023 08:59

I’ve done my yoga.
I’ve done a short meditation.
Hung the load of washing on the rack.
It’s chucking it down here so my gardening plans are out the window so I’ve just had breakfast and I am now having a cuppa. I will do a little tidy then go and read a bit of my library book under the covered gazebo listing to the rain on the roof.
DM coming for lunch a little later.

connie26 · 22/07/2023 09:00

Good morning. You sound like a girl after my own heart - peace and quiet and a bit of crochet! I have a blanket which I haven't picked up for a while as been so busy lately but I'm thinking about getting cosy on the sofa at some point soon and cracking on with it.
I'm just enjoying a cup of coffee and three crumpets with butter and then will be clearing dd2's bedroom ready for a new one going in next week. Enjoy the rest of your day 😊

cuckyplunt · 22/07/2023 09:02

I was going to tidy the garage, but now I have a cat on my lap!

HarrietofFire · 22/07/2023 09:02

Good morning! I'm going to stay in bed for a while waiting for DP to come from his room next door with coffee for me (separate rooms are the best!) Then we'll do a Guardian crossword together on his iPad. I'll do a little bit of Spanish on Duolingo. Then I'm going to get up and walk round to the shop and buy potatoes and carrots and tiger bread to make Blind Scouse for DD who has come home from holiday in Greece to greyness and cold. Looking forward to seeing her! While the Scouse is cooking I'm thinking of reading a bit of my new Kate Atkinson book and keeping an eye on the test match. If I can be bothered I might tidy my bedroom a bit. Then do a Carbonara for me and DP with a bottle of red wine to share in front of the telly with my knitting.

Thanks OP. Sometimes my life has been incredibly hard with illness, trauma, family problems, work etc and you've caught me on a day of absolute pleasure and it's been lovely to write it down and realise that I've come through it and here I am doing this.

grayhairdontcare · 22/07/2023 09:05

Morning!
I plan on a deep house clean today.
Meal planning for the week ahead.
A bit of self care with a face mask and deep conditioning my hair.
The weather is truly awful here.

Simonjt · 22/07/2023 09:06

Good morning

I’ve walked the dog and been to the gym, me and the baby are out and about with the dog while my son and husband do park run. Once they’re done we’re going out for breakfast (outdoor seating so they don’t stink the place out).

This afternoon we’re going through more stuff at home so we can reduce our belongings before we move, we’ve already done the living area/kitchen, so its just stuff in bedrooms now really which isn’t too bad. I’ve also got a slot booked for the donation centre this afternoon to take the things we aren’t keeping but could be used again.

AllotmentTime · 22/07/2023 09:11

Morning all. I am feeding three neighbourhood cats and that's about all my weekend jobs. They're all lovely so I will be enjoying that 🥰

I have physio to do (recovering from surgery) which has been neglected over the last few mad end of term days. I have also fucked up my neck somehow. So I will be very gently exercising and stretching and maybe do a little yoga.

Any housework would also be a bonus. In fact maybe a necessity, clean pants are becoming hard to find.

Going to watch the World Cup in a bit and might browse/buy a new board game or two for the summer. Recommendations welcome, DC are 7 and 10.

@MeinKraft sorry for your loss. 💐 Don't feel guilty, this is one of the genuinely useful purposes telly can serve. The children feel like they're getting a treat and you are hopefully getting some mental space while they do that. Lean into it, plus the weather's crap anyway. I hope you're okay though.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 22/07/2023 09:11

Good morning! I'm going to weigh in at slimming world in a bit then meant to be having a bike ride with a friend, having a drum lesson then going to a party in my hometown (1hr drive away) coming back at 9. It's DH family and they love a drink so I'm coming home at a sensible time 😂. He has a gig so he's not even coming. That said I did my back in last night at bedtime and I'm in massive pain today so not sure how I'm going to do all that

legosunqueen · 22/07/2023 09:12

Good morning @lucysmam thanks for starting the thread & hope your chemo is going okay - tough times Flowers

@MeinKraft so sorry about your DM, be kind to yourself.

A late for me start here as a long day of work yesterday & was then woken in the night by DS aged 17 who was out partying last night after last day of term & rolled in around 2am but had forgotten his tea.

I've just had a coffee & put a wash on. About to take DDog for a walk in the pouring rain. I really wish the weather would improve! I'm having my eyebrows tinted today but no other plans, the house needs a good tidy up as we have houseguests coming for 5 days on Thursday, will also do some menu planning for their visit.

DS is working tonight. I'll make a chilli later for DH & me & we'll probably watch something on Netflix tonight with a bottle of red, although I might decide to read my book, Demon Copperhead, which is compelling reading if a little grim...

Ilikejamtarts · 22/07/2023 09:13

My house is a dump and half decorated, I've been up since 5am trying to get as much done as we can as we have my partners brother, SIL and niece travelling from Scotland to stay the weekend with us. First time stepping foot in our house and i don't want them to think we live like a pack of feral dogs 🤣🤣

legosunqueen · 22/07/2023 09:13

*forgotten his key...

Refrosty · 22/07/2023 09:18

Morning @lucysmam. I remember being a teen and my mum giving me a chance to opt out of plans. Your post just took me to blissful moments spent reading in bed in the afternoon 😊

I can hear DC and their cousins loudly enjoying their sleepover morning. They are actually building a pillow fort, bless em. Just shooed one away from taking my good pillows. They all have various Saturday activities to get to, so I'm on MN with a cup of coffee before the rush to get them all dressed. Then DH and I go off in two separate directions with our own bundle of kids lol.

Once clubs and classes are over, we'll go to my SILs house and all eat/party together to celebrate a birthday.
