Has anyone actually bought anything from Temu?

Keep seeing adverts for temu popping up on my FB and on MN so had a quick look

Has anyone bought anything from them and is it just cheap tat?
I checked out shein too after it being spoken about so much. I was expecting super cheap stuff but £15.99 for a toddler hoody....seemed steep to me?!
Is it a case of some stuff being super cheap and some stuff being over priced to make up the difference in cost on the cheap sales?

I haven’t but I suspect it is cheap tat. I think it is the latest version of ‘Wish’.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/07/2023 23:03

I have never even looked at Wish or the other one I can't even remember the name but my friend used it.

Temu is coming from USA I believe? But yeh I'm skint and need to buy stuff so was just wondering it was legit or not.

From the U.S but Chinese owned and, apparently, they mine all your info so sign up at your peril.

My 80 year old father keeps buying stuff!
He’s bought shorts, ugly shoes (that are apparently very comfortable), wrong size t shirts that are skin tight and he can barely get on but still insists on wearing.
It’s cheap tat as much as anything else really, they don’t stand out as poor quality.

CuriousLadyBird · 21/07/2023 23:05

It's legit.

It's very hit and miss. Some stuff are okay, others are cheap tat.

It's also pretty unethical like shein and wish.

starrynight21 · 21/07/2023 23:05

I bought a pair of plant pots - the ones like a woman's head, and the plant is the hair. Very quirky. They were actually good quality, and they look great ! Quick service and delivery . I suppose you'd call them another version of Wish, but I was impressed with their good service and I'll use them again.

Temu is adamant I have need for a 'poledancing sloth' shower curtain.

Reader, I do not.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/07/2023 23:06

Ok interesting on the quality then.

But yeh, I'm not I to my data being sold so will give it a miss!

I’ve had stuff and it has been perfectly adequate. As others have said, some stuff better than others but certainly nothing I’d bin immediately.

Teddypops · 21/07/2023 23:16

I keep seeing these posts on MN. I call bullshit..

RightOnTheEdge · 21/07/2023 23:17

That shower curtain is hilarious 😂
Is it weird I quite like it? 🤣

JasonOsCubanHeels · 21/07/2023 23:22

They’ll mine and sell your data, they steal their designs from real designers and their cheap nasty shit is made using slave labour. They also use dubious materials when making said nasty cheap shit and buying direct bypasses the need to meet any safety standards.

glad you’ve decided not to OP

If you need cheap clothes try everything£5.com quality is variable, availability of whatever you need is variable, they're in the UK, some may be cheaply made in poor conditions somewhere but at least they're not commissioning it just buying up leftover stock etc that would otherwise go to landfill

ManchesterLu · 21/07/2023 23:28

I've bought quite a few bits and the vast majority has been great, actually. I was pleasantly surprised, as I was expecting it to be rubbish.

Followwill · 21/07/2023 23:32

It's just the new Wish/Shein isn't it? Even my 10YO said this the other day when an ad popped up.

Kingpin1 · 21/07/2023 23:44

Ive bought 5 or 6 tops from temu and i was pleasantly surprised, nice quality and cheap, around £4-7 each. Im bombarded by their pop up ads now but thats fine, beats paying £40 for a similar top from Next which i simply cant afford.

I mean, I have extensive history on Mumsnet which is very easy to check

I'm genuinely asking the question.

I keep forgetting about this. I’ve had the occasional look but never actually committed to buy. I can’t believe they even have a sale and are selling some things for under a fiver!
