Has anyone actually bought anything from Temu?

Keep seeing adverts for temu popping up on my FB and on MN so had a quick look

Has anyone bought anything from them and is it just cheap tat?
I checked out shein too after it being spoken about so much. I was expecting super cheap stuff but £15.99 for a toddler hoody....seemed steep to me?!
Is it a case of some stuff being super cheap and some stuff being over priced to make up the difference in cost on the cheap sales?

Basically same as Ali Express, but the website is slightly better.

VAT is included, which I don’t think it is with Ali Express.

One of mine bought from there last week. It was what all children need, a spiderman web thrower. It has amused him ever since.

Even if the quality was good, I wouldn't want to reward awful working conditions for employees. Same reason I avoid Primark.

And the damage to the environment, churning out fast fashion, flying it half way round the world to customers and the excess going to landfill.

We really do need to change our buying habits. Buy less, buy pre-loved, by quality that lasts.
Looking at the amount of clothing pre-loved/unwanted but new, just on Vinted, I'm sure the fashion industry doesn't need to produce anymore clothing for years.

One child made it, one child gets to play with it. What a world we live in.

Never heard of it other than seeing a post or two about it here recently.

treacledan71 · 22/07/2023 13:43

I bought apple corer that was OK but I got some air fryer liners that I normally pay 7.00 for at amazon for 3.00 buy they are rubbish. All flat and seem to burn. Rather pay a bit more.

I haven’t but I suspect it is cheap tat. I think it is the latest version of ‘Wish’.

This. Just another Chinese tat website

I keep forgetting about this. I’ve had the occasional look but never actually committed to buy. I can’t believe they even have a sale and are selling some things for under a fiver!
https://www.everything5pounds.com/en/New-Arrivals/c/new-arrivals

Some of the sale stuff is only £1. Crazy, but I guess they need rid of slow sellers to make room for new stock. Even at the full price you can sometimes get multipacks eg 4 cotton t-shirts for the basic £5.50 . The prices went up from strictly £5 a year ago but to be fair they'd been £5 for the five years prior that I'd used the site. There's another section they keep changing the name of, it was called Everything last time I looked, where they sell things at a slightly higher price. Not too sure what the thinking is behind that, maybe it depends what they've had to pay for it. I've had some very expensive things (well, to me £50-180 is expensive anyway) for £5 before that have lasted well. Mostly price tags are removed but occasionally they're left on. Labels are often cut out so you can't see the brand. Occasionally something looks like it's the last one and scooped up from being on the floor. Mostly you can see by carefully looking at the pics if the fabric is dire and avoid. Most stuff is in the average category, no worse than what you'd buy on the high street. Postage is the actual cost, so it's high, especially if you want next day delivery. A £90 order will be around £105 with the postage, a £50 order around £60. You do have to dig through or use filters to find what you're after because there isn't a particular style to the place due to taking in stock from all over. It's not for any particular age bracket, it's for bargain hunters who don't mind taking a gamble and broke people. The makeup and toiletries are ok too

I've never used Temu OP but I've seen lots of ads and am intregued. I have everything I need though and imagine I'd spend a lot on there buying things I don't need, so I haven't looked

Takingresponsibilityforyourownactions · 06/08/2023 20:14

Temu is definitely cheap tat, if anybody is stating it's not they are lying to you. If you are a petite size you could probably get away with ordering from there, otherwise avoid like a plague

EdgeOfACoin · 06/08/2023 20:22

An analysis of Temu showed that there is a "very high" likelihood that the products are made using forced labour.

The environmental impact of fast fashion is also horrendous.

This is not a company that deserves support. There's a reason why their goods are so cheap. The same goes for Shein.

XelaM · 06/08/2023 20:23

Bought loads of stuff from Temu after my daughter told me about it. It always arrives and have never had a problem with it.

Tiredmummy201 · 06/08/2023 20:29

My DD8 has just spent £20 of her birthday money on various bits off there .. I told her it’s probably rubbish but she wanted to risk it so may be an early lesson in false advertising for her … or if it’s not all rubbish I may have a house full of cheap plastic tat as she has a lot more birthday money left😬

GettingStuffed · 06/08/2023 20:31

I've bought loads of stuff from Temu, some good quality rings for under £1. All my holiday swimwear has come from there. The only not so good stuff has been a ring which looks like it came from Claire's.

A lot of the stuff is sold on Amazon at a much higher price. You have no way of knowing what conditions your clothes have been made under, wherever you buy it

If you don't like polyester it's probably not the place to buy clothes but I don't mind it.

Yahyahs22 · 06/08/2023 20:33

Someone had their account hacked and little bits of money over time accumulated to 4 grand. Be careful

WhamBamThankU · 06/08/2023 20:34

I've bought fake Lego and it's great

ninjafoodienovice · 06/08/2023 20:37

I bought about £20 worth from there during an adhd related late night shopping binge.
I genuinely couldn't remember what I'd bought but when it came I'd say was about 5/10 in quality but I wouldn't buy again unless there was something I definitely needed and I couldn't get from elsewhere- which is unlikely.

GenieGenealogy · 06/08/2023 20:37

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/07/2023 23:03

I have never even looked at Wish or the other one I can't even remember the name but my friend used it.

Temu is coming from USA I believe? But yeh I'm skint and need to buy stuff so was just wondering it was legit or not.

It first went live in the United States but it's Chinese. It's most definitely not American-owned.

From WIki: "Temu is owned and operated by the Chinese-based and Cayman Islands registered[4] company PDD Holdings, which also owns Pinduoduo, a popular online commerce platform in China.[5] Temu has removed any mention of PDD Holdings from its website and states that it is based in Boston.[6]"

It's cheap tat, made in sweatshops with scant regard for issues like safety and quality. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Totally agree.

Although there are lots of people who will turn a blind eye to all sorts of suffering and dodgy practices as long as they get cheap tat delivered to their door.

Temu is adamant I have need for a 'poledancing sloth' shower curtain.

Reader, I do not.

Haha

Elderflower14 · 06/08/2023 20:43

I bought a tee-shirt for my friends sons birthday.. Arrived reasonably quickly and looks good and fits well.

Iamblossom · 06/08/2023 20:53

I bought some metal wall signs. They are brilliant.

Escapingtherealityoflife · 06/08/2023 21:05

I’ve had my data mined by a different company. My email has been sold on and now I’m bombarded with junk.. It’s slowed up a bit because I’m religiously reporting and blocking everything. I knew it was dodgy when they sent a completely different item to what I ordered.
Im really picky about where I order from now.

Polyester can be toxic and to keep babies away from it. Skin exposure to Polyester can cause rashes, itching, redness, eczema, dermatitis, blistering or make existing skin problems worse for those with sensitive skin, up to 3 days late, also it's cheaply made.
