...can we just talk about how skinny Margot Robbie is?

..first of all, I really appreciate her as an actress and know she is naturally very slim. But seeing the size she is now promoting Barbie and doing all these premieres - she is a lot skinnier than she has been previously.

I don't know why but it doesn't sit comfortably with me. Here is an insanely talented actress who has always been praised for her talent. I've always appreciated that, albeit small, she's always been quite a 'healthy' slim and I've thought she's set a good example to young girls.

But she seems to have dropped weight to become drastically tiny just as she is being glorified as the real life Barbie. And no one's talking about it. Am I the only one whose noticed and who feels weird with it?

OP posts:

With respect, disingenuous crap. None of the bleating on here has been to do with health or pressure on the NHS as well you know.
and even if it were, there is no “ideal” dress size for health.

I fucking despair.

Because people with fairly basic intelligence won't be asking for concrete examples, will they? They'll have enough imagination to get through to the end of the conversation without them.

But that's not what the OP wants here anyway, given that her thread title says, "Can we just talk about how skinny Margot Robbie is?"

On the contrary, intelligent people absolutely do demand concrete evidence for propositions advanced by others. all the time. It’s basically the one thing all intelligent people have in common, in my experience.

Tbh I am not sure what pro-ana means on MN- I don't go on the diet threads- and I am not sure why it has been brought up here, when MR doesn't seem anorexic to me, at all.

Of course I wasn't saying that Margot Robbie is anorexic. The pro-ana posters on MN fetishise thinness, are terrifying in their fear and disgust of any weight that isn't extremely thin and are usually on the diet threads advocating very severe restrictions as completely normal and healthy.

The Sarah Michelle Gellar thing was a quote from the actress herself saying that her body was an unrealistic ideal. It's interesting that another poster has now twisted that to me saying her body was unrealistic.

I replied to your post @RitzyMcFitzy with a general comment to the thread at large. Can’t you understand? I didn’t call you a cunt. I didn’t even refer to what you’d said made up about her face.

So you quoted me and said 'can posters stop being cunts' but were absolutely not referring to me at all? Again, maybe take a breath and calm down before you post because your backtracking is feeble.

Luxpi · 21/07/2023 18:37

Of course there are, people who are overweight are more at risk of weight related illnesses and the burden on their body causes issues- anyone over a 16 or so on a sliding scale is putting their health at risk.

AgathaSpencerGregson · 21/07/2023 18:35

You’re not alone

I’m not sure I understand what you’re fighting for? That women who are slim deserve to be ‘shamed’, but not overweight women?

Because if it’s that women should not be critiqued for their bodies and faces, then we’re on the same side.

There are plenty of people walking round that size who are and will be absolutely fine. No doctor in any surgery anywhere in this country is assessing weight by dress size. In any event that’s clearly and obviously not what this is about, so let’s not insult everyone’s intelligence by pretending it is.

I’m not backtracking. 😵‍💫 I stand by it. Can posters stop being cunts about a woman for being slim and beautiful? I also stand by the fact that I didn’t call you a cunt.

This is a horrible, horrible thread.

Slim women = up for as much criticism as jealous posters can throw at them, apparently.

And anyone saying otherwise is ‘pro ana’, apparently.

Totally fucked.

Not to discuss The ideals our culture holds up to us.

They'd have to be really thick if they were unable to discuss that topic without naming names.

No, it’s much more complex. It’s based on a host of factors, including height, bone weight/density, body fat percentage, muscle percentage, hydration levels, insulin levels, iron studies, etc etc.

But I do think saying there’s no health ideal is a spot deluded.

Good job I didn’t say that then eh

YabbaDabbaDooooo · 21/07/2023 18:48

Goodness @AgathaSpencerGregson, you do have a strange idea of what discussion is.

You're right not to continue to engage if it's stressing you out.

MotherofGorgons · 21/07/2023 18:48

There is an ideal body size for me. My GP has told me what that should be. It's a size 10-12 , given my ethnicity and genetic propensity for certain diseases common in BAME women.

Perhaps I should call her out for expecting me to conform to impossible ideals that our culture holds up to us, but I happen to think it is possible and healthy for me to be that size. Just like it is possible and healthy for a woman under 40 to be a size 6.

I think she's aged and lost the puppy fat.

Puppy fat? She never had puppy fat

worldsworsthangover · 21/07/2023 18:55

Well, I would love to look like Margot, I can see a slight difference in the pics but she was a lot younger in the first one, and still absolutely stunning.

DogSitterMum · 21/07/2023 18:56

RitzyMcFitzy · 21/07/2023 18:14

A major portion of the media content around the Bridget Jones films was 'look at how much weight RA has put on/how did she put it on/how quickly did she manage to lose it/what did she do to lose it' etc.

Thanks for that I wasn’t living in the UK at the time of the Bridget Jones films release which is probably why I missed the media reports.

Hibiscrubbed · 21/07/2023 18:59

Yikes. Just had a glance at the recent posting history of a certain poster above. 🫢

Pilatyay · 21/07/2023 17:53

Of course it is. Mainly from jealous women to be honest, but you've surely heard phrases such as "eat a sarnie love", "real men love curves only dogs like bones", "real women have curves" and lots of people feel emboldened to say this to people's faces.

No-one has ever said any of those to me. Nor do I know people who talk in clichés.

Mirabai · 21/07/2023 19:04

Hibiscrubbed · 21/07/2023 17:53

As a student I was actually attacked (at a kebab shop of all places) on a night out in Oxford and called a ‘skinny cunt’ by a trio of larger girls. They ripped my hair out and broke one of my ribs. Was awful. The main one was so pissed and the attack was unprovoked.

You were attacked because you were a student and they were drunk. The skinny quip is by the by.

MotherofGorgons · 21/07/2023 19:05

I have actually seen the "Why cant they use real women as models" on MN, mostly applied to the M and S models, who people keep complaining are too slim, but look perfectly normal to me.

Wiccan · 21/07/2023 19:18

Mirabai · 21/07/2023 19:01

I've had all of those said to me and " Don't let her walk near a cattle grid she'll fall through" , " you're lucky being boney you can wear what you like ".

Insulting and I hated it .

Yesquiteright · 21/07/2023 19:31

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 21/07/2023 17:59

This is a pic of her in 2019 , before the Barbie role was even a thing.

She's absolutely stunning. I'm ignoring all the vile posters on here slinging insults.

Was it you who attacked me? Were you there?! Was if you who went to court?! Your arrogance as to your knowledge of the situation is astonishing 😂
