...can we just talk about how skinny Margot Robbie is?

..first of all, I really appreciate her as an actress and know she is naturally very slim. But seeing the size she is now promoting Barbie and doing all these premieres - she is a lot skinnier than she has been previously.

I don't know why but it doesn't sit comfortably with me. Here is an insanely talented actress who has always been praised for her talent. I've always appreciated that, albeit small, she's always been quite a 'healthy' slim and I've thought she's set a good example to young girls.

But she seems to have dropped weight to become drastically tiny just as she is being glorified as the real life Barbie. And no one's talking about it. Am I the only one whose noticed and who feels weird with it?

The ideals our culture holds up to us absolutely are our business though.

And this can be discussed without the OP singling out one woman, or anyone for that matter.

It's pure nastiness.

Can it though? Let’s imagine how that might go. Anyone making the point that female body ideals are unrealistic is immediately going to be asked for concrete examples and beaten up if they don’t provide any.
it’s a way of closing down a discussion and I’m not on board with that.

You were?!

Yeah. Size 16 is not the ‘ideal’.

MotherofGorgons · 21/07/2023 18:16

ElectricTouch · 21/07/2023 18:09

It's not linked to a dress size, it's a mindset. And setting foot in the diet threads here, you'll see it's rife!

Ah see, I guess I am pro-ana because I do not believe that all sizes are equally great for all people. I don't believe in diets either, mind you.

And I do have an opinion on what size is a healthy size for me and mine. I guess that is not very body positive.

No, not at all. That's not what it means.

And using the word "skinny" is just as insulting as calling a larger person "podgy"

That's utter bullshit. Skinny is often seen as a positive, a compliment. Podgy is not.

Well I never took it as a compliment when I was called it , I was insulted that people thought they had the right to even comment on my size no matter what size I was !

Hibiscrubbed · 21/07/2023 18:18

MotherofGorgons · 21/07/2023 18:08

What size is it ok to be now, without being accused of being "pro-ana"?🤔

Quite. How dare posters try to silence others by reducing anyone being slim, or saying that a slim body is healthier than a fatter one, as pro-eating disorders? It’s fucked.

I asked posters to stop being cunts about a woman for being slim, healthy, fit and talented.

Yes, most people with fairly basic intelligence could have that conversation without naming other women.

And we need to have an ideal because … why?
I thought judging women’s bodies was BAD

Well as you’re clearly possessed of more than “basic intelligence” you can no doubt explain how the pitfall I’ve identified can be avoided. Seems quite tricky to me …

Hibiscrubbed · 21/07/2023 18:26

It might be the norm to be fat. But it’s not the ideal. And it’s not ok to criticise a woman for being healthy, anymore than it is to criticise a woman for being fat.

For some reason on here, if you’re a healthy weight, you’re ‘pro ana’. I presume the posters criticising MR (as well as slim posters) are overweight/unhappy with their weights. Happy people don’t do what the OP and others have done.

Just stop commenting negatively about women’s bodies/faces…

But why do we need an ideal when judging bodies is such a terrible crime??
make it make sense people

ElectricTouch · 21/07/2023 18:28

It's very strange to read this thread and come away with the idea that anyone is claiming size 16 as an ideal, or saying that being slim is being pro-ana. None of those things have been said, but they've been argued against very vociferously.

RitzyMcFitzy · 21/07/2023 18:29

It's up there on the thread. Maybe think before you post if you're going to regret it and try and backtrack 5 mins later.

There is an ‘ideal’ in relation to health and minimising pressure on a fucked health service, by way of reducing heart disease, risk of stroke, diabetes, etc.

Hibiscrubbed · 21/07/2023 18:32

Hibiscrubbed · 21/07/2023 17:55

Can posters stop being cunts about a woman purely because she’s talented, beautiful and not fat? Fuck sake.

I replied to your post @RitzyMcFitzy with a general comment to the thread at large. Can’t you understand? I didn’t call you a cunt. I didn’t even refer to what you’d said made up about her face.

MotherofGorgons · 21/07/2023 18:32

Tbh I am not sure what pro-ana means on MN- I don't go on the diet threads- and I am not sure why it has been brought up here, when MR doesn't seem anorexic to me, at all.

This.

Someone posted about Sarah Michelle Gellar and how it's unrealistic to look like a celebrity. I must say I don't agree. I work HARD to stay healthy and an appropriate weight. But I manage because looking good matters more to me than eating a third bag of crisps.

The problem is that the UK is in the midst of an obesity crisis and so many people treat eating like a competitive sport. It's gotten to the stage where we're skinny shaming normal looking women.

With respect, disingenuous crap. None of the bleating on here has been to do with health or pressure on the NHS as well you know.
and even if it were, there is no “ideal” dress size for health.

The amount of comments my daughters’ get like this is horrible. People think they can just be rude !

It’s definitely negatively impacted on her mental health, I hope your daughters ok.

Because people with fairly basic intelligence won't be asking for concrete examples, will they? They'll have enough imagination to get through to the end of the conversation without them.

But that's not what the OP wants here anyway, given that her thread title says, "Can we just talk about how skinny Margot Robbie is?"
