...can we just talk about how skinny Margot Robbie is?

..first of all, I really appreciate her as an actress and know she is naturally very slim. But seeing the size she is now promoting Barbie and doing all these premieres - she is a lot skinnier than she has been previously.

I don't know why but it doesn't sit comfortably with me. Here is an insanely talented actress who has always been praised for her talent. I've always appreciated that, albeit small, she's always been quite a 'healthy' slim and I've thought she's set a good example to young girls.

But she seems to have dropped weight to become drastically tiny just as she is being glorified as the real life Barbie. And no one's talking about it. Am I the only one whose noticed and who feels weird with it?

Erm, I'm actually naturally extremely slim myself and have experienced skinny shaming. That's not what I'm doing. It's the drastic change that I've noticed and keep seeing when she's in the Barbie press. I just think it's interesting that she's promoting 'Barbie' and she's lost lots of weight...

Eh you actually are skinny shaming with a post like this?!

RoseBucket · 21/07/2023 17:30

She is the same size of my daughter who gets told she needs to eat up, isn’t womanly etc. She is a healthy 6-8 and fits my size 10 clothes from when I was younger.

Stop fecking body shaming @Champagneponies

The amount of comments my daughters’ get like this is horrible. People think they can just be rude !

Gh12345 · 21/07/2023 17:33

What an awful thread you’ve started OP

toomuchlaundry · 21/07/2023 17:34

Can't imagine it's good for either male or female actors to have to muck about with their body and diet to fit an image

FFSwhatisthis · 21/07/2023 17:34

AgathaSpencerGregson · 21/07/2023 17:22

FWIW I think yes, this is not a great example for young girls. I won’t be rushing to take my kids to this film.

@AgathaSpencerGregson

eell that's good, it's not a kids film

Champagneponies · 21/07/2023 17:34

@RoseBucket erm talk about putting words in my mouth! I've had those comments directed towards myself personally thank you!
In school I was known as 'hat rack'.

Not the point of my thread. At all. Jesus.

Unfortunately I'm not that size anymore but I used to get so many rude comments about being slim when I was a teenager too. I ate more than I do now. I don't know why people think it's ok to comment on your size just because your slim.

Moveoverdarlin · 21/07/2023 17:35

I thought the opposite actually, I thought isn’t it good she’s not gone super skinny for the Barbie role? Barbie dolls are traditionally very tall, super skinny, with big boobs, I think they’ve toned downed all of these elements by choosing an actress shaped like Margot Robbie.

Hibiscrubbed · 21/07/2023 17:35

So it’s ok to point out how ‘skinny’ she is, but god fucking help anyone who started a thread pointing out an actress had got fatter.

It’s hardly surprising that someone is fitter, leaner and slimmer during the filming and promotion of a film, than they are during downtime.

AgathaSpencerGregson · 21/07/2023 17:35

So how are we allowed to talk about unrealistic body ideals for women? Do we have to pretend Robbie is the norm? Can we only discuss it in the abstract with no reference to actual examples? Or are we just not allowed to discuss it all? And who benefits if we can’t? Do we benefit?

watersprites · 21/07/2023 17:35

So we still value extreme slimness, we’re just not allowed to talk about that.
A sound recipe for good mental health.

Pretty much!

Why is it unrealistic? Who gets to decide what is realistic and what isn’t? Some people look like this. It’s not their fault if that makes others feel bad. That’s for the others to deal with, not them.

FlowersInTheSky · 21/07/2023 17:37

Oh for Christ sake. She’s not “skinny”. She’s a slim healthy young woman.

You’ve lost sight of what a healthy weight actually is.

Champagneponies · 21/07/2023 17:37

@AgathaSpencerGregson apparently we are not allowed to discuss it... 😂

I really don't think Hollywood has!

Would you have made this thread if she were fat?

Quite.

No, you shouldn’t be discussing someone else’s weight. It’s none of your business.

YabbaDabbaDooooo · 21/07/2023 17:38

Did you mean to come across as creepy OP?

<<Shudders>>

otherwayup · 21/07/2023 17:39

So sick of the constant criticism about women's appearance!!!!

MotherofGorgons · 21/07/2023 17:39

Wasnt she the same size for Babylon? Because I recall a thread complaining she was too thin on Vanity Fair. Though I thought she looked great on that too.

I do not think she is excessively slim for a young, child free woman anyway. Millions of women across the world who are her size or slimmer.

ofcours · 21/07/2023 17:39

I think I get your point OP which is that Hollywood is obviously still demanding thinness, and that can be damaging? Whereas you'd hope they'd moved have past that.

AgathaSpencerGregson · 21/07/2023 17:39

yogasaurus · 21/07/2023 17:37

Some people do, but most don’t, and won’t no matter how much they try. But the former type is still held up as the ideal, as the gushing and the rushing to say “I am just like this!” Demonstrates.
is it good if we say we can’t talk about this? I’m not sure. Seems even worse than my youth, when women like this were idealised but at least we felt free to discuss why that might be a problem.
