...can we just talk about how skinny Margot Robbie is?

..first of all, I really appreciate her as an actress and know she is naturally very slim. But seeing the size she is now promoting Barbie and doing all these premieres - she is a lot skinnier than she has been previously.

I don't know why but it doesn't sit comfortably with me. Here is an insanely talented actress who has always been praised for her talent. I've always appreciated that, albeit small, she's always been quite a 'healthy' slim and I've thought she's set a good example to young girls.

But she seems to have dropped weight to become drastically tiny just as she is being glorified as the real life Barbie. And no one's talking about it. Am I the only one whose noticed and who feels weird with it?

OP posts:
Yesquiteright · 21/07/2023 17:18

She looks gorgeous, fit and toned.

Sorry it doesn't 'sit well' with you OP 🙄

MaidOfSteel · 21/07/2023 17:18

You're right, OP. The way these people look is seen far & wide by millions of young girls, many of whom will think they need to look this way.
You'll get all the 'mind your own business' replies, but these things do have an effect on kids.

ASGIRC · 21/07/2023 17:20

Missing the point of the thread, but I doubt very much youve seen her do any press in the past week or so...

Or cillian. Or indeed any actor that is a member of SAG-AFTRA (which they have to be to be in big Hollywood movies.)

AgathaSpencerGregson · 21/07/2023 17:20

there seems to be a change here. I recall when it was relatively common to discuss pressure on girls and women to be thin by citing examples of women in the public eye. Now this is, apparently, something that can’t happen as it’s “discussing other women’s bodies.” Although no one seems to be criticising the gushing compliments.
Progress? Not sure ….

BBno4 · 21/07/2023 16:59

I think she's aged and lost the puppy fat.

Puppy fat Christ!

AgathaSpencerGregson · 21/07/2023 17:22

FWIW I think yes, this is not a great example for young girls. I won’t be rushing to take my kids to this film.

Livelifelover · 21/07/2023 17:23

She's looks slim. People have lost sight of what's normal.

yep, for sure

PerspiringElizabeth · 21/07/2023 17:24

@Champagneponies shes literally playing Barbie though. Men lose and gain weight for roles all the time with barely a comment from the public.

Corknut · 21/07/2023 17:24

I’m with other posters, don’t post about others’ bodies full stop. Fat or skinny it’s unacceptable to comment on someone else’s shape or change in shape. We condemn this behaviour in the tabloids, it’s not ok here either

AnneShirleysNewDress · 21/07/2023 17:24

No, we can't.

What's wrong with looking this way? Should Margot put on weight so other women don't feel threatened?

RitzyMcFitzy · 21/07/2023 17:24

Ifitsnotscientific · 21/07/2023 17:18

I’m very happy to see someone this slim- representation is vital - I have daughters one is very tall and very slim (5’10 and size 6-8) the other other very petite and very slim (U.K. size 2) - it’s good they see people who are like them. Margot Robbie isn’t underweight she’s just very slim and that isn’t unhealthy

Do you and your daughters feel there isn't enough representation of very slim people in our popular culture?

SeulementUneFois · 21/07/2023 17:25

She looks perfectly normal to me. Go to Eastern Europe, Baltic Countries, Japan and you'll see that the majority of childless women that age are similar in size.

GreenWheat · 21/07/2023 17:26

Actors need to lose or gain weight for particular roles. Part of the job, she's a professional.

DontEatCrisps · 21/07/2023 17:28

She looks great in both pictures.

AgathaSpencerGregson · 21/07/2023 17:28

So we still value extreme slimness, we’re just not allowed to talk about that.
A sound recipe for good mental health.

clouddprocess · 21/07/2023 17:28

She looks just fine in both. More muscular and toned now, and slimmer.

Also not sure of the need for a thread 🤔

Sundance03 · 21/07/2023 17:29

I think she's gorgeous and looks healthy to me. Barbie is a doll with unrealistic proportions so she plays the part well and looks like barbie... She's an actress! Nothing wrong with her weight at all!!!! It's the promoting obesity we need to worry about with children...

Are you going to comment on Cillian Murphy losing weight for Oppenheimer? He admits an unhealthy diet of eating an almond a day.
Did you post when men lost their weight to play characters who are cast away or terminally ill? Being skinny will sometimes be in an actor@/ contract.

I suspect that actresses often fluctuate in weight depending on whether they are working or not and she had a dietician and trainer to keep her in shape in the same way that movie studios like Marvel help their actors stay in shape.

WelshNerd · 21/07/2023 17:29

I think you need to see the movie.

RoseBucket · 21/07/2023 17:30

She is the same size of my daughter who gets told she needs to eat up, isn’t womanly etc. She is a healthy 6-8 and fits my size 10 clothes from when I was younger.

Stop fecking body shaming @Champagneponies

blahblahblah1654 · 21/07/2023 17:31

She's slim but not underweight. She looks great.

There is clearly a difference between losing weight to play someone with a terminal illness and losing weight to conform to female body ideals.
