Taylor Swift - Lead Booker

I bought 2 tickets for Taylor Swift in Edinburgh for the Friday night for my daughter and her friend. Paid on my card but tickets are in daughter's name. I bought them via AXS. I now hear it's named as a Lead Booker event and the person who paid for the tickets has to go. We definitely don't want to do that. I don't see anything on the email we were sent confirming purchase. Does anyone know anything about this?

AXS have been on twitter this morning saying they aren't lead booker events (however if you have VIP, they are lead booker and always have been)

trmacc · 18/07/2023 12:06

Hi, was just thinking the same thing. I have been through all the Ts and Cs on AXS and can't see anything stating this, so possibly just a ticketmaster rule? I am also 95% sure there was nothing about this on the website when I bought the tickets, though was SO excited to have actually got through I might have missed something. I have messaged AXS to ask, so will let you know when I get response.

PHEW and PHEW again! Really like TS but had no desire to accompany my daughters....

Yes, phew! That would have been a blow all round... very glad we booked through axs, hope Ticketmaster sort this out too - I imagine lots and lots of people will have bought tickets for their teenagers.

We just got tickets for dd and her friends through DDs account but using DHs card - this was through Ticketmaster. I was way too stressed to think about reading the terms and conditions 😅. Hopefully this will get sorted as I'm sure loads of teens used a parents credit card!

SavvyMaria · 18/07/2023 13:39

@Titsywoo exactly! When you get through to buying tickets and there's a time pressure absolutely no one would read the T&C's!

I've got a registration code for an account in my name but I want to buy tickets for DD and her friend to go. Can I put the tickets into DD's name when (if) I get any, or am I going to need to see if I can change the name on the account in advance?

Popplebop · 18/07/2023 13:50

Well let’s hope they sort out because otherwise there will be a LOT of teenagers who will have to go with one parent 🙄. Mine included. Which means only one teenager will be going…

coffeemorecoffee · 18/07/2023 14:37

This is a disaster. I have vip tickets in my account for my kids…Taylor’s great but I don’t have a burning desire to see her

It's the card you pay with not the account that is the lead booker

allsogreen · 18/07/2023 18:55

Im quite worried about this . I managed to get tickets on ticketmaster for dds (21 and 17) I am not going. I paid with my credit cars (although they are giving me money back towards them)Can I just give dd my ticketmaster log in details, and credit card used to book - would that be all they checked? Are they really going to check id of everyone going in? Having a major stress about this now!

christmastreefarm · 18/07/2023 19:04

@LizzoBorden

I cannot see that tweet - can you link it please

SummaLuvin · 18/07/2023 19:04

@allsogreen in theory, according to TicketMaster Lead Booker Event protocol, that won't be good enough. Lead Booker Events mean the name on the credit card has to match the photo ID of one of the group attending the event. As it's the credit card name this isn't something than can be changed after the fact. This has been done in events in the past, but not one I have been to so can't comment on how strict door staff tend to be.

However, I can't see how they can enforce The Eras Tour as a Lead Booker Event. I don't think it was listed as a Lead Booker Event during presale last week. TicketMaster and AXS seem to have previously confirmed that you can sell or transfer tickets. There has been no clarity surrounding this and a lot of mixed messaging. Even if you could say that from today sales on TicketMaster were made in the knowledge that it's a Lead Booker Event so the rules should apply to them, it makes no sense for door staff to have to check which booking platform and date of purchase to determine whether to then check ID, surely the same rules should apply to everyone?

disclaimer - this is just my opinion, not anything actually based on insider knowledge and expertise

NameChangeAgainChange · 18/07/2023 19:11

It’s not legal or workable for them to change the T&Cs after the tickets were sold, which they will know. Suspect that TM have announced this now in the hope of stopping people buying to resell and they’ll retract once all the tickets are sold. Bit of a mess all round- thousands of parents will have bought for their teens.

thanks. I will be totally gutted if they do enforce it. I did book today, and it may have been in place then in truth, and maybe I should have spotted it, but in the stress of trying to get tickets I didn't spot it. Neither dd has enough money to book the 2 tickets( one at school, one a student) so I booked them on my card and they will send me money for their own ticket. No way could I possibly chose between them if one of them had to go with me. I dont even really like Taylor Swift! (sorry to all those who do, I dont dislike her, just no desire to go to her concenrt) Hope this gets resolved or I imagine there will be a lot of very upset teens and young people out there who have used parents cards to book. Feeling very upset and stressed now

HumphreysCorner · 18/07/2023 19:13

They are so enforcing the Lead Booker thing so I wish you well. X

SummaLuvin · 18/07/2023 19:21

I've heard the theory is that by making it Lead Booker it makes it impossible for touts, as it makes the only way to sell the tickets is through the official TicketMaster resale which restricts to face value. This is brilliant news for fans who have been unable to get tickets so far. And rightly screws over the sharks. Also benefits TicketMaster who will probably take the admin fee 2 times.

But people who bought tickets for kids, or friends, or for themselves on partners cards are also in difficulty unfairly. And I would hope there's a work around for those people, but I don't know how you could prove it, especially if you don't share a name like my husband and I.

NameChangeAgainChange · 18/07/2023 19:32

I think this would be reasonable if they'd made it lead booker from the start, but they've brought it in this week when lots of us bought tickets last week.

SavvyMaria · 18/07/2023 20:15

There would surely be basis for a legal claim - you can't change t&c's retrospectively.

The merchandisers are not going to like this rule either - having a stadium with a high percentage of parents there with no interest in TS rather than teenage swifties is going to lose them trade.

Interested in this as this means I’m going twice ! I like her but I don’t need to see her twice !

Taylorscat · 18/07/2023 21:13

It’s so confusing with AXS saying it’s not. There’s no way they’ll be checking ID but at the same time I can’t risk giving my ticket away and then them not getting in!

mids2019 · 18/07/2023 21:56

Place marking.

Have we any lawyers to give opinion on whether t & c can be changed after sale?

Titsywoo · 18/07/2023 22:11

It does just state the lead booker has to be present - I wonder if DH could be there as they show the tickets then bugger off? We live close enough for it not to be a massive bother.

HezzaGibson · 18/07/2023 22:16

This was put out by AXS
