Who should get the double bed?

Going on holiday with my brother and family at the end of August. Renting a big house in the highlands.

We have one child, he has three. Rented a large house just so each of ‘kids’ have a room each. There are three bedrooms with a single bed and one with a small double. Two other rooms are ‘girls bedrooms’ so my nieces are happy to have.

Our son is the eldest (22). But his cousin is taller than him at 6ft 2 but (16), when our son is 6ft. Who should get the double bed?

Son doesn’t seem that bothered. But tall cousin has demanded that he get the double bed because he is the tallest. Brother has stated that his son will be getting the double bed.

Out of principle dh thinks our son should say he wants the double bed as he is the eldest. Plus there isn’t much in the height, and both beds are same length.

Why aren’t the girls in the equation? Where are parents sleeping?

Few girls or women are over 6ft, most have plenty of room in a single.

If your son isn’t bothered then let it go - pick your battles but don’t let your charmer of a brother and his devil spawn dictate the rest of the holiday.

When will the arguments about food start, as assume the boys will eat more than the girls

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 18/07/2023 19:32

Well if one wants it and one isn't bothered why make it into an issue?

Toss a coin. Unless your DS is actual paying for his own holiday then he gets treated equally to a younger DC.

Yes I agree

This does not bode well...

If free cancellation is a possibility I'd cancel and go somewhere just with your immediate family.

What else will your brother just 'decide' without compromise?

Sequinsandfrills · 18/07/2023 23:18

Toss a coin on the day?! That's fair.

Why are the “grown-ups” having a spat about things the people involved don’t give a fuck about?

Your son’s happy with a single bed, their son wants the double. The kids are all right, eh?

Your husband and brother shouldn’t be dicks about it. Is there history? If so, why are you all holidaying together?

This. Your bloke’s a bit of a stirrer, isn’t he, OP?

The length of a small double and a single is the same.

Surely it should come down to who is fattest, not tallest? 😂

That would be my response to such a silly quarrel.

Pawpatrolsucks · 19/07/2023 02:52

If I was having to deal with that before I even left I would book separate accommodation.

Doubt anyone is 3ft wide. A wider bed you can lie diagonally across.

The OP says two rooms are 'girls' rooms so I assume they are decorated in a style that the girls enjoy more than the boys.

OP I really want to know;
A) how are you dividing costs?
B) is 22 year old adult ds paying anything? If so that it's an immediate 'he gets the big bed'
C) does nephew regularly demand what he wants?
D) does db regularly demand things? Ie is he a dick?
E) can you get separate accommodation? Entitled db and dn wouldn't be people I'd want to spend a whole holiday with
