Bloody dinosaurs

What am I missing? I’ve got a baby boy and he needs clothes. Who decided baby clothes, in fact any clothes, should be covered in bloody dinosaurs?

It’s not just clothes. I’ve never liked dinosaurs but I must be in the minority as they’re everywhere in toys, furniture, museums, films. They’ve been dead ages, they’re ugly and stupid, it’s boring.

I accept the fault must be mine as the whole thing is so popular but I can’t understand it. Was it always like this?

Dinosaurs are cool. I know it's not the npars not YABVVVVVU

egowise · 13/07/2023 21:21

*not the board
(Apologies in patchy data area)

Itsallyellow22 · 13/07/2023 21:22

To want more variety in clothing for your son, yep, fair enough. To rant about ugly stupid dinosaurs? Yeah, bit weird.

Do you not take your son to museums? Do you not see evolution, science, history etc as interesting? Really!? That's way more of a problem to me than what your son dresses in.

TeaKitten · 13/07/2023 21:22

There are absolutely loads of baby boy clothes out there without dinosaurs on

Diddykong · 13/07/2023 21:24

Yabu dinosaurs are the best.

Theunamedcat · 13/07/2023 21:24

What do you want on the clothes? It used to be cars and dogs always the cars and the fucking dogs maybe a digger or two dinosaurs are cool way better than a car or a dog

Stonebridge · 13/07/2023 21:24

Yanbu
I spent a lot of time finding non-dino, non-truck clothes for my boy when he was a baby. He now likes both (!!) so some of his clothes do have these prints but I try to balance it out with some other things too .

Hugasauras · 13/07/2023 21:25

I love dinosaurs. I think I've shared this pic before but I am beloved by young children when I go out in this. So I say YABU and prepare for the dinosaur years! Every single peer of DD1's likes dinosaurs.

Dinosaurs are amazing! Not stupid and boring.

However, if you don't want them on your DC's clothes, then don't buy those ones, there's loads without dinosaurs. Remember, that the boy/girl label is arbitrary so shop more widely if you feel the 'boys' clothes don't reflect your interests.

Moon12345 · 13/07/2023 21:36

Feel your pain! I have a boy and hate all the dinosaurs/tractors/diggers/footballs on every single thing! My advice - Vinted. Search via his age/size as filter and type in brands like Zara/H&M where the boys stuff is much better/less overtly BOY (but way less expensive than buying new and a lot less wasteful!) I only buy for my little boy via Vinted and the clothes I’ve found on there are beautiful.

I have 3 boys. Dinosaurs, vehicles and monsters are standard. Never bothered me tbh.

Hummusanddipdip · 13/07/2023 21:41

I've found that tesco, morrisons, sainsburys and asda have a fair variety of clothes.

However I possess a dinosaur and construction vehicle obsessed 4 year old... so he's easy to shop for in some places.

1stepforward2stepsback · 13/07/2023 21:42

There’s loads of variety available, it’s not hard to avoid certain themes if you wish (we have loads of dinosaurs, animals and vehicles, but tend to avoid super heroes / comic characters).

You’re looking for an issue where there isn’t one. Dinosaurs are great, but if you don’t like them, just pick something else.

APurpleSquirrel · 13/07/2023 21:44

Whilst I agree that the choice of boys clothes is very limited, I can't agree that dinosaurs are boring - they're amazing & fascinating.
Camouflage on boys clothes is my pet hate, oh & all the sludge colours.
There are plenty of brands that do other colours/patterns though - Little Bird, Kite, Piccalily, Fat Face etc but they're not cheap. Or just be more selective of what you buy.
Also agree that secondhand is great for getting more unusual prints.

SquashPenguin · 13/07/2023 21:47

Dinos are the best. I have two dinosaur tattoos. Why wouldn’t you want dinosaurs on a tshirt?!

nocoolnamesleft · 13/07/2023 21:48

Dinosaurs are cool. For both girls and boys.

dinoice · 13/07/2023 21:49

My four year old daughter RAGES at the lack of main stream dino clothes. She wears boys or Etsy stuff. Shame her wee sister hates dinos. 🙈

inappropriateraspberry · 13/07/2023 21:53

Along with dinosaurs you will also be overrun with Spider Man! Every small boy is obsessed, whether they've seen it on tv or not. My theory is it's because he is a superhero, but doesn't have big scary powers, just swings around and ties people up.
My sons room is full of dinosaurs, spider man and Bluey. But Bluey is great. Obviously.

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/07/2023 21:53

I’ve found stuff in a variety of colours and patterns, there’s plenty of other designs available and more shops are selling neutral designs now than a few years ago which is nice. It just got me thinking about why they’re everywhere. (And why boys = dinosaurs while girls = unicorns and kittens. But that’s another discussion.)

I have an older daughter who’s never shown any interest in dinosaurs. She’s plenty interested in history, science, nature, space, (proper) animals.

And they are ugly. There are more interesting and beautiful things that could be plastered all over stuff for kids.

Dinosaurs even daffodil pinching ones are fab!!!!!

However you have a point about awful boys clothes. I wanted primary colours for dc1 (with or without 🦕 ) but everything easily optainable was sludge/mud coloured. I was slightly sad when he outgrew his bottle green trousers from Kite and insisted on camo ones from Tesco.

december2020 · 13/07/2023 21:54

DS loves dinosaurs, dragons, monsters and superheroes - I did too as a kid and still do...

BrieAndChilli · 13/07/2023 21:55

I was always on the look out for more dinosaur clothes as my 3rd child is dinosaur mad. He’s 12 now and still obsessed. He wants to be a palaeontologist and we have to go to the natural history museum every time we are in London. He still wears dinosaurs on his clothes 😂

Fun fact: more time passed between the first stegosaurus and the first t-Rex than between the last t-Rex and the first iPhone.
