How is Huw Edwards different to Philip Schofield

Heard this question raised on LBC this morning and was wondering the same thing.

How are the two any different? Both older men engaged with younger men, both cheating on their wives, and both claiming mental health issues post revelation.

He wasn’t named at the outset. It took five days of conjecture and witch hunting before we even knew who it was by which time he was so ill he was admitted as an inpatient. No evidence. Not a shred. You do know what you’re doing is defamation, don’t you?

I have said allegedly throughout. My point being when folk ask for evidence, we the public of course will not be privy to it. Obviously.

You didn’t say allegedly when you talked about getting his story straight or expressed disbelief in his illness.

We have to wait for the BBC to conclude their inquiries, we can't just access evidence willy nilly that would not be legal. However surely he'd refute claims from the outset if it was all a misunderstanding?

What 'claims' and by whom?

It doesn't work like that.

If the police think you have broken the law they will ask you to 'come in to help them with their enquires'. They will also do their own investigations and decide whether or not to prosecute.
Police in this case have said there is no case to answer.

If your employer is concerned about 'aspects of your conduct' then you will be approached informally and asked about this. If they are concerned they will tell you why and give you the right to reply. You will be in no doubt what the issue is.

The claims in this case were not made by anyone with any authority over HE. They were made by a red-top tabloid to which HE isn't answerable.

He has no doubt taken legal advice to keep shtum until he feels mentally stronger.

Does anyone apart from Huw Edwards and his associates know what actually happened?

Exactly this. The fact that there is even confusion about whether the young person is male or female does not seem to be bringing home to people that we do not (yet) know the actual facts of this situation, only endless speculation.

There was even a joke made on 'In the Thick of it' alluding to rumours about him 18 years ago

The writer has been quoted as saying he picked Huw Edwards out of the air for that joke. He said he wanted a respectable name and it could have easily been Attenborough or Dimbleby.

FWIW I think PS = public interest (did ITV know, possible grooming), and HE = not public interest - unless any evidence otherwise comes to light. But that doesn’t equate to thinking his behaviour sounds totally fine and that the BBC shouldn’t investigate it.
