BBC Presenter and yet more allegations

1000 replies

friendlycat · 11/07/2023 23:28

It would appear that the front page of tomorrow’s The Sun has further allegations about messages with a new 17 year old. Creepy hearts etc

Scrolling through Sky news and seeing front pages of the papers. This appears bottom right on The Sun front page.

The BBC says it has evidence of threatening messages, and there is evidence of a pattern of behaviour.

I've not been following this story particularly closely, but I'm surprised to see (skimming this thread) people defending the presenter's position.

Agree. The concern being expressed is not because we're the 'morality police'. If the Sun's splash over the said individual had been an affair with a colleague, even a younger one, there would have been an apology from him by now, talk of a break, stepping back for a while, etc etc, and I daresay he would have re-emerged at some point, maybe having split with his wife, but still able to resume his career, as countless others have done. But this isn't just some common-or-garden midlife crisis, this is something much darker I think.

RudsyFarmer · 12/07/2023 09:03

Now Pandora’s box is open the papers are rather hoping more people will come forward and the story will develop. This behaviour could be the thin end of the edge. I guess we wait and see.

I think a lot of people have watched him over the years and felt warmth towards him. He’s reported on such major events and been the face we’ve seen and heard for so many years. You felt he was respectable and trustworthy, that was his persona. To now be told otherwise is upsetting, I feel very let down by him.

Posts like that are tantamount to actually naming him.

I think MNHQ should be taking threads like this down.

Superior standards that cultivated a culture of looking the other way whilst staggeringly entitled male star talent abused young girls and boys for decades

A culture that was cultivated to protect others. At the time there were high profile politicians involved, later confirmed to be paedophiles, and I don’t doubt there are others, that will be confirmed only after their deaths.
A culture that wasn’t just encouraged within the BBC but throughout media, throughout the police.

The alleged presenter is clearly a bog standard sleaze, otherwise this would remain covered up until death.

Yet he's still on an iPlayer programme! Explain that?

The programme is made by a production company with whom BBC has an agreement. BBC could get into trouble if they remove the programme before the license expires.

I'm not surprised, there are still apologists not just for Schofield but for many other stars who have abused their position and the people in their lives.

This is exactly how stars/powerful men get away with so much - because nobody wants to believe this happens and particularly don't want to believe it of their icons.

Where has anyone said that men should do whatever?

Sweetashunni · 12/07/2023 09:07

Translucentwaters · 12/07/2023 08:39

What on earth are you talking about?

At the centre of this storm are CHILDREN.

In the case of the first alleged victim a very vulnerable minor. How this gets exposed is totally irrelevant. The exposure started with two very worried parents, who were not listened to by the bbc.

You seem unable to grasp the gravity of the situation. This is not about the press or the Sun at the centre of this is a very vulnerable teenager, and now many more that have potentially been harmed and damaged by a very powerful man that is paid by you and I.

I am just appalled that my license fee money has been spent on the abuse of minors seemingly. I am sickened actually.

And you seem unable to grasp they’re not children! I know saying ‘children’ heightens the drama and makes it all seem much more disturbing, but it simply isn’t true. Do we let children leave home and set up by themselves? Buy a scratch card or lottery ticket? Learn to drive? No, because 17 year olds aren’t children. Uncomfortably young yes, but not children.

RudsyFarmer · 12/07/2023 09:07

Then it’s job done. No need to ask for a whole thread of people successfully NOT naming the presenter to be pulled.

no one of course.
usual stunt of some people.
you disagree with me, therefore you are:

insert whatever.

Juanmartinez · 12/07/2023 09:11

There is a report saying that the presenter said to one of the young adults that he wasn't used to being turned down, this seems to indicate that he was pressuring them to meet up or send pictures. Use these sites if you must but if someone says no, then you accept their answer and move on . Not accepting 'no' for an answer is very dodgy.

should be easy for you to point out from such a vast field then:

WHO?
is an apologist for
WHAT?

Do you.

Do you really?

Why don't you just scroll past if you don't like them? Many more have already named a number of individuals who fit this description, and not just on here - Twitter, Tattle, newsites, newspapers, you tube . They may be right, they may be wrong. Either way, your policing isn't necessary.

Figgygal · 12/07/2023 09:15

Why is any of this our business?
Why are people so focused on this nonsense when there's actual scandals going on with our government that actually affect our lives.

A child is anyone who has not reached their 18th birthday. So at 17 you are still a child.

Yes, sorry, I misunderstood.

This news story is taking away a lot of the flack off George Osborne, which is convenient…
