Registry office wedding - have mixed views on this dress…

I really like it, and I know that’s what counts. Had a few people say to me that it’s nice but more as a dress for hen do or reception rather than my actual wedding dress. I think it’s appropriate since we are going to a registry office and for a few nice photos. Do you think it’s underwhelming? Thought it would be best to get multiple opinions!

Do I like it? Yes
Is it pretty? Yes
Is it the most important day of my life dress? No.

OP, If you love it, rock it. Personally, I would definitely go a little more extravagant.

Hayliebells · 09/07/2023 20:32

If it's what you want to wear on your wedding day, if it will make you feel good and you're comfortable, wear it. Part of what makes wedding dresses look so good is the fitting imo, so you could always get it tailored, to make sure it looks it's best.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 09/07/2023 20:35

I really like it. What are your thoughts for hair? Shoes? You'll need killer shoes.

That is a beautiful dress!

I think it's okay but I'm not hugely keen on the shoulders.

As to whether it's underwhelming I think that depends on what your day-to-day style is. I might see you in it and think it the perfect dress for you and your taste.

Yes, polyester is very cheap. It’s what terrible crap from Shein and Primark is made of. It’s also sweaty. Do you have the dress already? I personally can’t bear the feel of polyester.

Nonsense. Polyester comes in all stripes. It's definitely not all "cheap", and natural fabrics are not all environmentally friendly or worth the price.

EasterBreak · 09/07/2023 21:39

It's lovely

RuthW · 09/07/2023 21:47

It's lovely and perfect

Twinsmummy1812 · 09/07/2023 21:55

I got talked out of wearing what I wanted to wear at my wedding and I didn’t feel special at all at my wedding so I think you should wear what you want. If you asked me honestly I would say it looks like a white summer dress rather than a wedding dress, but if that’s what you want, go for it.

I’m going to put a link to this dress I saw earlier and loved but have no use for but I wanted to spend a similar amount I think this is beautiful.

Kellioo · 09/07/2023 22:03

I love it, very classy

CherryPieface · 09/07/2023 23:08

It’s beautiful! I wore something even more low key for my wedding because I just don’t like traditional wedding dresses. I got married in a hotel and I felt wonderful. Go for it, if you love it then it’s right for you. Congratulations xx

CoffeeMama1 · 10/07/2023 12:33

It's beautiful, and as long as you're happy thats what matters! I wore a dress from Hope & Ivy for our registry office wedding and I adore it, I love that I can actually wear it again if I want to!

BogRollBOGOF · 10/07/2023 13:07

I'm finding the focal point is a bit confused between the assymetric hem and the shoulder line. It's like it doesn't quite know what it wants to be, longer or shorter, on the shoulder, off the shoulder, and it's feeling compromised.

I like the idea of it, and it's certainly appropriate, but there may be others that feel more definitively right for what you want.

Alifelessweird · 10/07/2023 13:09

i love it. Suits a relaxed informal wedding well.

CountryCousin · 10/07/2023 13:22

It's like it doesn't quite know what it wants to be, longer or shorter, on the shoulder, off the shoulder, and it's feeling compromised.

I was thinking about this thread earlier today and that’s exactly the conclusion I came to. It feels that they threw in everything, without any clear idea of a design direction. So it just doesn’t register as ‘chic’. To me, of course. I appreciate a million posters have advocated in its favour! And the OP will look beautiful on her wedding day regardless of my opinion on the details of her frock.

Dora26 · 10/07/2023 13:31

Gorgeous OP - simple, understated and classy!

Muddlpuddle · 10/07/2023 15:16

@dressornot I think it’s lovely. If you like it go with it. Don’t worry about what anyone else says. I wore a wedding dress, a shorter one to my RO wedding and wish I had gone with just a normal dress - it would have saved money too. I also listened to everyone else’s opinions and I definitely did not enjoy my wedding day. Go with what YOU like.

LambsyDivey · 10/07/2023 16:32

I got married in a registry office, and people were wearing everything from matching football jerseys to full-on tuxes and gowns -- it really was an anything-goes situation. Wear it and look beautiful!

Alwayswonderedwhy · 10/07/2023 16:42

I think it's perfect for a wedding in a registry office.

SiobhanSharpe · 10/07/2023 17:03

A hen do! Who in their right mind wears white for a hen-do?
(Unless they're prepared for it to be stained, or worse.)
It's a pretty dress and absolutely fine for a civil ceremony, or even a low key church service.

Strawberrypicnic · 10/07/2023 17:21

It's really lovely! A few people have said to take the chance to dress up and wear something extravagant, but if that's not you then don't do it just for the sake of it!

user1471538283 · 10/07/2023 17:29

I think it's lovely. It's your day so you wear whatever you like.

WhatADrabCarpet · 10/07/2023 17:35

It's really lovely and if it makes you feel good then that's all that matters.

All good wishes to you.

Dixiechickonhols · 10/07/2023 17:36

I really like it but I prefer simple, no sequins or lace. If that’s your style go for it.
I chose a monsoon outfit that was very plain fitted ivory silk. I’ve realised with hindsight that the top was a very similar to work tops I used to wear. I felt comfortable and looked like me. If I’d been in some frilly creation it wouldn’t have suited. Been married 20 years and never regretted what I wore. With flowers and hair it looks bridal.
