Registry office wedding - have mixed views on this dress…

I really like it, and I know that’s what counts. Had a few people say to me that it’s nice but more as a dress for hen do or reception rather than my actual wedding dress. I think it’s appropriate since we are going to a registry office and for a few nice photos. Do you think it’s underwhelming? Thought it would be best to get multiple opinions!

It’s perfect but why are you even bothered about the opinions of others? Seriously why people give this headspace baffles me. It’s a lovely dress and you like it so therefore it’s a no brainer.

fireflyloo · 09/07/2023 14:05

It's lovely. It's quite boho vibe so I'd play on that with maybe nice flowers in your hair.

ThanksItHasPockets · 09/07/2023 14:11

It’s lovely and you should wear it if it’s what you love, but I slightly get the impression that you feel you have to choose something low-key because you are marrying in a registry office and you don’t!

It’s beautiful! Imagine it really dressed up with some lovely flowers, hairstyle and shoes.

I love that it could be worn again.

Excellent choice OP xx

ASimpleLobsterHat · 09/07/2023 14:17

I think it's absolutely lovely and ideal for the type of wedding you have planned. You should definitely go for it if you like it. I don't think it's underwhelming at all; it's simple and elegant. Not everyone wants to wear a floor length gown covered in sparkles!

mybestchildismycat · 09/07/2023 14:18

I think it is absolutely beautiful and not in the least bit underwhelming in any way!

You’re missing the point, surely? If the OP were certain of her choice, she wouldn’t be seeking other opinions. She is, so we’re responding.

@dressornot, here are a few alternative white dresses from the Matches sale at around the same price. Slight step up for the Kirka Vargas. (Have limited selection to ‘flared skirt, not tight or sparkly’.)

Perfect

GrinAndVomit · 09/07/2023 14:23

Although, on further consideration, if you’re asking for opinions on here, you obviously don’t love it.

Will you feel beautiful or will you feel self conscious?

I think it’s an absolutely stunning dress and I wish I’d gone for something more like this. But, this isn’t about me, it’s about how you’d feel.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 09/07/2023 14:24

It's perfect! If you wanted to glam up a little, you could do so with hairstyle, jewellery, handbag, etc.
I love it. Simple, understated elegance.

WoolyMammoth55 · 09/07/2023 14:32

Hi OP, honestly not sure how useful this thread is going to be to you! People have different tastes in wedding dresses - like in baby names, home decor, and EVERYTHING in life... If you made all your decisions according to random internet strangers' opinions you'd probably be very unhappy...? Would you get them to vote on your fiance? :)

For what it's worth I had a church wedding and still chose a very simple, understated, non-frou-frou dress. I personally don't like beaded meringue-y dresses and wouldn't ever choose that. Obviously there are a lot of people who think that without a beaded bodice and a tulle underskirt it's not a 'proper' wedding dress! But they do them, I do me, they're happy, I'm happy, life goes on.

I just think you should choose a dress you really like and feel good in and then not worry about what anyone else thinks!

My dress was a dupe of an elegant, 1930s, parachute silk vintage number. It was made by a clever friend of mine who sourced the perfect fabric and then made the design even more pared back and 'clean'. I absolutely loved it on the day and still love it in the photos 12 years on - it was totally 'me', beautiful and special but understated, not fussy. I felt completely like myself but the best version of me.

Hope you have a lovely day and find the confidence to go with whatever dress you choose.

Bennyjoon · 09/07/2023 14:37

I love it.

I had a register office wedding and wore a silk, floral wrap dress. It wasn’t particularly wedding-ey but I liked it and felt comfortable. I had a bouquet and flowers in my hair and that was enough for me.

We also had a meal afterwards in a nice restaurant.

wear what you like!

FabFitFifties · 09/07/2023 14:40

It only looks underwhelming because she's not holding flowers etc. I think it could look really beautiful. I wonder if it could be dyed to be used as evening wear later?

Crunchymum · 09/07/2023 14:41

I'd say understated as opposed to underwhelming.

Simple and elegant. Not my personal style at all but I don't think it's underwhelming.

Vitriolinsanity · 09/07/2023 14:45

That is beautiful and I love a dress with back appeal.

Gingertam · 09/07/2023 14:47

Another one who loves it. It's classy and elegant, not underwhelming. Honestly though you will get loads of mixed answers, It's all down to personal taste. I don't like full on wedding dresses in registry offices but some do, each to their own.

yesterdayisgone · 09/07/2023 14:50

It’s underwhelming I think . Maybe self portrait or Nadine merabi ?

Gingerlygreen · 09/07/2023 14:52

The only thing I'm not keen on is the hem not being level but I wouldn't say it was underwhelming and would look so much nicer once you had your flowers and jewellery.
It's one of those dresses you need to try on, it says the model is 5'9 and wearing the size 8 dress, I think because of the pleats coming from the waistband it does suit a slim figure.

Wildandwonderful · 09/07/2023 14:54

I think it's gorgeous and the very full tie at the back is very appropriate.

SeaPeeps · 09/07/2023 14:55

Classy and if it makes you feel good perfect.

headcheffer · 09/07/2023 14:55

I think it's really lovely, and the back detail is beautiful. Agree that with hair done and make up done it will look very bridal. If you like it and feel good in it OP then go for it.

Bloodyleaverspartybollocks · 09/07/2023 14:57

It's perfect. You'll look lovely

TheHandbag · 09/07/2023 15:02

Sorry OP that dress is really underwhelming, if it was in a different colour it would be the perfect guest dress. The only bridal thing about it is the colour, it's just too plain for my liking.

I like this skirt and top combo.

Jongleterre · 09/07/2023 15:04

It looks perfectly suitable for a wedding dress.

Good luck in your special day.

BungleandGeorge · 09/07/2023 15:04

I think it’s lovely and perfect the wedding you have planned, a really classy choice. If you have the money I’d splurge on a pair of designer shoes. The only negative thing I can say is it’s 100% polyester and in my opinion they should have made it out of a silk/silk chiffon for the original price of £500
