Registry office wedding - have mixed views on this dress…

I really like it, and I know that’s what counts. Had a few people say to me that it’s nice but more as a dress for hen do or reception rather than my actual wedding dress. I think it’s appropriate since we are going to a registry office and for a few nice photos. Do you think it’s underwhelming? Thought it would be best to get multiple opinions!

i think it is perfect@dressornot .

Maddy70 · 09/07/2023 15:11

I'm not keen on the shoulder. It looks a bit too casual

Buildingthefuture · 09/07/2023 15:12

I think it’s perfect for the wedding you are planning. Classy, elegant, not over the top. Some fab shoes, headwear (small bird cage fascinator?) and a small bouquet….fabulous 🥰🥰🥰🥰

I think it is lovely and appropriate.

It’s a lovely dress. Go for it!

And many happy returns to the bride! Have a wonderful day x

Forestfriendlygarden · 09/07/2023 15:16

Something sparkly in your hair? Or white flowers?

ApolloandDaphne · 09/07/2023 15:16

It's a beautiful dress and absolutely perfect for a low key wedding.

CountryCousin · 09/07/2023 15:21

I think it’s the combination of ‘sundress’ straps and not terribly bright polyester that makes one hesitate to praise it unreservedly.

Titfortat78 · 09/07/2023 15:44

It's fine it's probably because of the shorter length. But at least you won't have to struggle going to the toilet.

ImNotReallySpartacus · 09/07/2023 15:46

It is a perfectly nice dress for a summer wedding.

ActDottie · 09/07/2023 15:51

It’s perfect very similar to mine and we had a small wedding (well we eloped!) so didn’t want an OTT dress

FedUpWithEverything123 · 09/07/2023 15:51

It's perfect OP, and gorgeous x

Astsjakksmso · 09/07/2023 15:53

Is it a lovely dress? Definitely!
Does it look like a wedding dress? Not really. Just a white dress, of which there are plenty.

But what matters is whether YOU like it.

Fair enough if you want an understated look. But If your worry is that you don't want to seem extravagant for a registry office wedding then rest assured, it's your day. You can wear what you want, a full ballgown even!

The only quibble is of course you're presumably having a registry office wedding to save money. If you're canny you can find a 'proper' dress for under £300, sale, ex-display etc.

But again. Completely your decision.

Hi OP, honestly not sure how useful this thread is going to be to you! People have different tastes in wedding dresses - like in baby names, home decor, and EVERYTHING in life... If you made all your decisions according to random internet strangers' opinions you'd probably be very unhappy...? Would you get them to vote on your fiance? :)

For what it's worth I had a church wedding and still chose a very simple, understated, non-frou-frou dress. I personally don't like beaded meringue-y dresses and wouldn't ever choose that. Obviously there are a lot of people who think that without a beaded bodice and a tulle underskirt it's not a 'proper' wedding dress! But they do them, I do me, they're happy, I'm happy, life goes on.

I just think you should choose a dress you really like and feel good in and then not worry about what anyone else thinks!

My dress was a dupe of an elegant, 1930s, parachute silk vintage number. It was made by a clever friend of mine who sourced the perfect fabric and then made the design even more pared back and 'clean'. I absolutely loved it on the day and still love it in the photos 12 years on - it was totally 'me', beautiful and special but understated, not fussy. I felt completely like myself but the best version of me.

Hope you have a lovely day and find the confidence to go with whatever dress you choose.

Your dress is actually a lot more effort than just picking a 'standard frou frou' off the shelf. It's not the opulence, but structure and materials that make a wedding dress. Look at Meghan Markle's dress for example, and these very expensive, but simple looking wedding dresses.

It's beautiful and the added bonus is that you could dye it afterwards and wear again.

StellaJohanna · 09/07/2023 16:02

It's absolutely beautiful. Pearls or other classic jewelery, great hair, lovely sandals - you will look great.

TiaraBoo · 09/07/2023 16:07

I can imagine with flowers, your hair done up, AND a huge smile, you will look every inch a bride.
I wouldn’t wear that dress to a hen do or as a reception dress (I just wouldn’t choose to have 2 dresses) and would consider it perfect for the venue and vibe you’re going for.

I do love love love wedding dresses, but at the end of the day the smiles and connection of the B&G is what makes the wedding for me ❤️🎉

MimiSunshine · 09/07/2023 16:47

I think it’s lovely for the type of wedding you want but then I saw the price and thought, nah. I wouldn’t spend £250 on it.

i appreciate some would happily spend that on what is a nice summer dress but for £250 I’d want something a bit more special somehow.

SayHi · 09/07/2023 16:47

I absolutely love it!

Its quite a lot of money and Its not very showy like traditional wedding dresses but tbh I wouldn’t wear a showy dress to a registry office anyway and I prefer the simplistic look even if I had a church wedding anyway.

I do think any dress needs to be tried on though as they can look completely different depending on your body shape.
Perhaps order it and try it on and then decide.

DisforDarkChocolate · 09/07/2023 16:51

I think it's perfect. I love how it's interesting from the back too. Congratulations.

tpmumtobe · 09/07/2023 16:55

Beautiful, understated, classy and elegant. Perfect for a registry do.

fluffiphlox · 09/07/2023 17:10

So much more elegant than so many galleons in full sail that you see. Something in your hair and some similarly elegant flowers. Beautiful.

maryberryslayers · 09/07/2023 17:11

Personally I find it's more of a normal dress that happens to be white than a wedding dress.

Registry office or not, it's still your wedding, so don't feel you have to play it down. At least go to a wedding dress shop and try on some dresses, there's lots of simple styles if that's your preference.

TheChosenTwo · 09/07/2023 17:13

Well I’m underwhelmed by it but it sounds like you’re planning a low-key wedding so would be strange if you turned up in a very lavish flamboyant dress!
If you like it and feel comfortable in it then other peoples opinions are totally irrelevant - it’s your wedding not theirs.

Ostrichbraid · 09/07/2023 17:18

I think it's lovely! I hope you have a wonderful day whatever you decide!
