Who do you think is the BBC presenter who has been suspended?

I don't have twitter and haven't seen any theories as to who it is, I'm presuming a man due to the figure outline being used in the press:

Let's talk about it a bit more then ... as it now seems pretty clear that this news presenter story was saved up to draw everyone's attention elsewhere.

I was surprised to read his friends were trying to stop the wedding but he doesn't seem much of a catch. They all seem the same in politics

I hope it all come out in the wash soon as I would prefer to hear about Boris's WhatsApps of which there has been hardly any mention.

oooh those will also be juicy. It's going to take a while to get them out in print. And Rishis replies ....

No need for a conspiracy theory suggesting that Boris is somehow responsible for these allegations.

Nobody said that. What is true is The Sun have a history of putting “Dead Cat” stories on their front page in order to protect those they support, which includes Johnson. It’s happened numerous times in the past.

Yes, exactly. Also, the former PM failing to comply with a government enquiry, particularly when that government enquiry had to take the extraordinary step of judicial review, is absolutely a major news story.

Willmafrockfit · 11/07/2023 07:04

what is this about george osbourne emails?

ArcticSkewer · 11/07/2023 07:11

Willmafrockfit · 11/07/2023 07:04

what is this about george osbourne emails?

I'm so glad you asked ...

The entire wedding party, and media, were sent a detailed list of his alleged infidelities past and present with a range of women from young (always legal age) upwards and reminders of what a shit he was to his ex wife and kids. Also detail on his new wife's past for affairs and her temper. And that his friends wanted him to call off the wedding.

It was a real character assassination. Very funny. Except for a few of the nastier details.

Maybe he deleted them.

Willmafrockfit · 11/07/2023 07:31

thank you @ArcticSkewer

Meepme · 11/07/2023 07:43

Where is the coverage of the Osborne email though? How can one man shush everyone? Is this story being put out to detract from George?

StormShadow · 11/07/2023 07:48

I think the timing is more likely to be related to the What's Apps than it is George Osborne.

Quveas · 11/07/2023 07:51

prh47bridge · 11/07/2023 00:08

No, that is not "at minimum". The minimum is that the story is entirely false from beginning to end and the alleged behaviour exists only in the parents' minds. The fact the Sun hasn't named the presenter tells us that they don't have the evidence to back up their story.

Very early on, and buried in the sensationalism, the Sun version stated that the story was based on an affadavit from the mother, and that was their "evidence". If that is true, that is an amazing level of stupidity on their part. Nobody ever lies under oath. Ever.

I don't know what happened. But I am entirely amused at the two faced hypocrisy of people here that were baying for blood a day ago and are now urging caution and "it may not be true" when they were willing to crucify people who said that they should not rush to judgement on no information. I myself was called "disgusting" and far worse for saying that we did not have any facts, that the story as published did not add up, and that it was wrong to rush to a conclusion based on the ramblings of the gutter press. And that by at least one poster now "on the side of the angels".

Willmafrockfit · 11/07/2023 07:53

my opinion has changed @Quveas
as has many no doubt,
started with Dont believe The Sun
ended with Dont believe The Sun

Legal, illegal, whatever, it's sleazy behaviour from anyone, even if that person wasn't married with kids. Any man that does this, particularly with young people similar age to their own children, is a sleaze that deserves everything they get imo. His career is finished either way, call it retirement or whatever, but what a legacy to a pretty impressive career, for any well known, highly paid BBC presenter.

Thing is we don't get to choose if the people we watch and listen to are sleazy or not, because that's a moral judgement. If it's not illegal, it's really none of our business. In their haste to try to damage the BBC it seems the Sun have smeared an innocent man.

nebulae · 11/07/2023 08:11

What a murky mess this now is. Sadly we'll probably never know the truth now. Or at least not the full truth. And even if the full truth is reported at some point a lot of people don't believe it.

Underlying this is the lack of trust in all these organisations. We don't trust the papers to report the truth. We don't trust the BBC not to cover this up. We don't trust the police to investigate it fully and impartially. And we don't trust the government not to be pulling the strings behind the scenes.

It'll be a while for the detail of those to become public knowledge (if they ever do)

Surgicalnightmare · 11/07/2023 08:15

This whole sorry tale is exactly why privacy and anonymity are crucial when investigations of this nature are undertaken.

I agree. If people on our TV screens have to be flawlessly moral, then we'll probably be stuck with watching Andy Pandy on a loop. Mind you, him and Teddy and that Looby Lou...

SlightlyJaded · 11/07/2023 08:51

Totally agree with the theory that this is a family dispute - quite possibly fuelled by the 'victim' having an OnlyFans account that was in part, supported by someone at the BBC. Family saw a quick £Win whilst at the same time shaming person out of OnlyFans career and off drugs. Completely unrealistic and self-serving.

I think that has snowballed for three reasons:

  1. A sideshow to distract from WhatsApp/Osbourne/Anyone with political sway that wants a distraction
  2. Saville/BBC/Historic failings and desperation at being seen to 'take things seriously'
  3. The Sun being their usual sleezy, hypocritical selves and jumping in too fast/too hard and fuelling 'breaking news' / social media and other sensationalist type hype.

I really REALLY hope the Sun ends up with egg on its face, £££ Lawsuits against them and a huge loss of readership (doubt the last one will happen).

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 11/07/2023 08:53

It is the mum and stepdad just airing dirty laundry.
Not a good look and have probably made their relationship with their adult child even worse.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 11/07/2023 08:59

Also just went back to twitter and people are linking an article from outwith the UK that names the presenter as someone NOT who people currently think it is.

It's coincidental how after 3 years, the complaint was only made around the time the Schofield scandal broke.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 11/07/2023 09:09

Maybe they are trying to claw back some money they lent their child and won't get back!

Yeah I'd expect so.

LadyMuckingabout · 11/07/2023 09:18

I am not intimately familiar with the workings of Only Fans, but presumably the young person registered as over 18, and, if so, it is true nothing illegal took place during the, er, performances. Of course it is sleazy and ick but unless there is evidence of the young person divulging their true age then it is just one of those grim stories.

There is so much more to this story - or perhaps there isn’t: perhaps it’s just a case of good old-fashioned blackmail.

Whatever, it does - literally - expose a sad man behaving in a dodgy way when he has everything to lose.

Also just went back to twitter and people are linking an article from outwith the UK that names the presenter as someone NOT who people currently think it is.

That article is complete bollocks. The person named already put out a statement yesterday saying they're on annual leave and giving a date for their return.

That article is doing the rounds but it makes no sense and is full of nonsense, like saying he's been charged.

It reads like it was written by an AI. It's utter nonsense.
