I don't have twitter and haven't seen any theories as to who it is, I'm presuming a man due to the figure outline being used in the press:

A YouTuber with connections. There was a woman on one of these threads saying her DH got the name from a Whatsapp group. Other people have friends in high places. It's just all speculation.

Oh and I nearly forgot Katy H!

Im not too sure tbh. Newsreader.

All these people who have a relative's friend who knew.
Wasn't that the problem with Saville, everyone knew.
Or are people just bullshitting?

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2023 16:34

Loads of people knew about Savill , but nobody did anything. That was covered up for years.
Probably why the mum in this case went to the papers.

Florenz · 09/07/2023 16:35

The BBC are overpaying their staff if he can afford to fork out 35k for mucky pictures.

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2023 16:39

Many big presenters are on huge salaries !
Steve Wright was once on nearly half a mil a year for singing over the end of songs on his radio show.
They can earn more going over to ITV too.
Newsreaders earn a big wedge too. The established ones anyway.

good96 · 09/07/2023 16:43

There’s a few questions though -

Why has it taken the BBC so long to formally investigate? There’s no smoke without fire. It was only when more allegations came to light on Thursday that this has come out in the public domain.

Why after 3 years as the parent only found about this / reported it?
Let’s face it, suspicion would arise on their part where a teenager would get a substantial amount of cash from…..

How bizarre that it’s only come out after the ITV fiasco too….

I've not seen anyone say tehy knew it was happening. People are saying they know who it is now because eg someone they know is a journalist or works for the bbc

Accusations, suspensions and investigations are meant to be handled discreetly and not gossiped about on WhatsApp groups.

Everyone at my workplace gossips about such things on WA. I would imagine it's pretty standard across many sectors.

Ok? That wasn't my point though

This lady is an ex national newspaper journalist and on a separate note very good to follow on instagram, gives great synopsis of current news stories and very impartial

Privacy concern for the victim or the perp?
No injunction either? I'm surprised

chstterbox · 09/07/2023 18:43

pointless, is that a clue?

I still don't understand how injunctions work. Surely if something is illegal, an injunction shouldn't be a thing

You would think!

& you are right that used to be the law but things have moved on. I've explained it in a post upthread here but basically the Supreme Court decided that before charge there is a right to privacy - so even a person arrested has a right to privacy about the fact of their arrest. In this case no one has even been arrested so much stronger privacy rights.

Been told by a table full of very credible journos. Nothing I can say other than I am shocked. Truly shocked. I thought he was one of the decent ones

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 09/07/2023 19:55

Instagram asks you your pronouns when you set it up

Really? How irritating. And how potentially upsetting for people who want to use anything other than obvious sex-based pronouns but who are reluctant to go public about it yet - the very people for whose benefit they probably started this for in the first place.

EpicChaos · 09/07/2023 19:57

Some of you might find this interesting, or not.
It's a video by Mr Robertshaw, a barrister that sometimes does a 2-way with the Black Belt Barrister on you tube.
Apparently, he used to work for a newspaper as a resident lawyer, checking stories for libel. I started to listen to the video a few days ago, before this story surfaced but found what I heard of it to be interesting.

Yes I'm shocked - if what they say on twitter is true.

HokusaiWave · 09/07/2023 20:07

Interesting question: when were the BBC told that the youth had provided pictures at the age of 17?

If that is the allegation “of a different nature” made only this last Thursday, we can’t much blame the BBC. Everything else amounts to an employee paying for sexual stimulation - not a matter for the employer, or indeed a matter of public interest.

@yipeeyiyay has their name been mentioned on this thread yet?
