First world problems that make you irrationally annoyed!

Just want to vent (lighthearted but kind of not). Went into the Bodyshop today to buy some new shampoo and conditioner and shower gels. First had to fight my way through about 3 people wanting me to try products, which I hate being pounced on. Then I got the shampoo and conditioner I wanted (this is a treat for me as more than I normally spend), and I had a hard sell at the checkout for various things, including upgrading to a refill bottle for shampoo and conditioner, I went for it as like to help the environment…but was in a hurry, get home to find THEY’VE BLOODY PUT SHAMPOO IN BOTH BOTTLES! I’m irrationally annoyed about this particularly given the way they pushed it on me, and the fact I went out of my way to go to the shop. What first world things have annoyed you today? 😂and would this annoy you?!

My local Sainsburys has two entrances/exits - one on the streetfront, and one on the back to the car park. Before covid they were both open. During covid, one was exit and one was entrance. Now they've decided to close the rear one, which means you to carry your shopping out of the front and back round to the car park. You have to go through an alleyway which is dark and probably not very nice at night, especially for women. That is currently annoying me, though I don't think my annoyance is irrational.

It is much quicker and more efficient (and no less ‘safe’) to drive into parking spaces and reverse out as much bigger space for the reversal.

That isn't true. Reversing into spaces is safer, because you can then see what's going on when you drive out.

However, if you need to load the boot (or get something out) then you obviously drive in.

Also because the wheels that do the steering are at the front so you don’t need to be as far out of the space to make the manoeuvre.

I only ever go in forwards if it’s at ikea and I’m buying wardrobes. Everything else can be done when reverse parked.

The insane obsession with never having carrier bags or with charging 60p for them when you are in a supermarket surrounded by plastic packaging on food that has arrived there via a carbon heavy plastic laden supply chain.

I get you OP. That would have driven me INSANE!

People who are really, fucking loud. In the pub last night (i get it, it's a pub), so irritating that the group of people beside us had 1) a guy that had the most booming voice telling really unfunny anecdotes we could hear every word of 2) a woman that shrieked so hard it could have broken all the glasses. I was BU- grumpy and old- but I really wanted to politely tap them on the shoulder and tell them to STFU. And no we couldn't move- no other seats. We could have moved pubs, but we were comfy and we like it there 😆

Yes! I cant cope with loud booming voices and they are always worse in pubs after a few drinks. I generally find loud people difficult to be around anyway, they kind of embarrass me as I feel everyone can hear our conversation. It actually puts me off them getting to know a new person.

More a puzzlement, but why do some people treat religious texts as literal, for example when scientists are eg genetics, etc and some religious people say oo we shouldn't be acting like god, as the Bible says x.

To me yes believe in the good books, but the bottom line is they are just texts. That have been written by human's, interpretation by Human's, edited and rewritten by human's.

Basically all made and produced by human's.

If the books were the written works of the deity themselves then I could understand. But why shouldn't humans advance science etc instead of thinking one must not aspire to be god.

Graphics on food products that personifies eg. ' shake me', ' open me here', ' I contain vit C' etc etc. It seems to be on every bloody product these days, do they want us to think the carton of oat milk is actually talking to us, like Alice in Wonderland or something?

GreenwichOrTwicks · 11/07/2023 02:29

Patronising NHS references to ‘your waterworks’ ‘tummy’ and the like.
Saw a range of maternity and baby similar in ASDA yesterday with name like ‘spritz for your bits’ and ‘bum cream’

Yes, and the ones who exit in the right lane (when they could be in the left, but that would - gasp! - force them to be behind you at the lights) then cut in front as you're accelerating in the left lane.

If there are two lanes at the lights or roundabout you can use to exit then people should be using both. What’s the point of an empty lane with everyone stuck behind you?
Its often unclear if the road after the lights or roundabout is one or two lanes. If it’s one then there’s an arrow directing people into your lane and if it’s two they should be driving in your lane unless they are overtaking.

Fizbosshoes · 11/07/2023 06:53

Student discounts/concessions that are barely worth having. DD wanted to go to an exhibition recently and the entry was £20. With a student discount it was £19. Another place we wanted to go recently , admission was £14, or £13.50 for students.

stepfordwifey · 11/07/2023 07:23

The locked circular toilet roll dispensers that contain cheap nasty tissue which doesn't unroll without breaking a thousand times. Then when you try to squeeze your hand in the narrow opening to find the end again, it really hurts.
Just because 0.01% of the population steal toilet paper from public toilets.
Gives me the absolute rage when I've forgotten to bring tissues.

No, I’m not referring to roundabouts, but a right turn at lights. Using the right lane wouldn’t be an issue if people wouldn’t then immediately cut in to get back to the left lane. It’s the cutting off that’s irritating (and dangerous).

Marchintospring · 11/07/2023 16:25

@Catsmere I’m still not getting it. Surely they are in the right hand lane to turn right. They then get into the left hand lane because a) they are going straight or left at the next junction b) you are supposed to be in the left lane unless overtaking.

Still you are allowed to be annoyed by whatever you want I guess.

MinnieMountain · 11/07/2023 18:57

I'm training a colleague on more complex files. He keeps on doing them really quickly, so I have to check them.

I'm not explaining it well! We're supposed to drive on the left unless overtaking. It's a T intersection with lights - the end of the first road, going into the highway, so one can only turn left or right, and the painted arrows show the left lane for either direction. So yeah, they're not wrong using the right lane, it's the impatience to get back into the left and cutting people off that's the real annoyance (and dangerous). Especially as it's where anyone already in the left lane will already be accelerating after the turn.

Housekeeperbatcocoa · 11/07/2023 23:27

People who won't fucking get over on lanes. Sick of them hogging 3/4 of the road!

Orban · 12/07/2023 00:28

Tbf most of the time on most roads in the UK these days it's not clear which lane you need to be in because the markings are so worn and (in the case of roundabouts) signs are covered by trees and bushes. So it's understandable people keeping their options open.

Catsmere · 12/07/2023 02:35

That bugs me with the roads here in Australia, too - painted arrows too worn out to see. All the bloody roadworks around here but fixing potholes and paintwork aren't on their to-do lists, apparently. As for making the road surface reasonably level after they do any work, forget it. Who cares if local drivers, ie the people paying for the roads, councils etc, end up with their suspension ruined?

'Do you accept cookies' on every website, all the time

Or, 'can you just complete this quick survey?'.

When you're in a hurry trying to find something online, or show someone something & you get these irritating pop ups.

MinnieMountain · 12/07/2023 06:06

Or “do you want to chat to the help bot?”. Some sites require you to close at least 3 things before you can actually look what they have for sale.

MsRead · 12/07/2023 06:33

We live rurally and it is very annoying when I check product availability, get to the shop and it’s not there. This happens a lot.

People that drive forwards into spaces. Much easier and safer to reverse in, drive out. (even when you need to put things in the boot.)

People who assume what is easier for them is easy for everyone else too. I have mobility problems but don't qualify yet for a blue badge, so no extra space in car parks. When I'm parked in my local supermarket I can't manage to squeeze through a narrow gap carrying a heavy shopping bag while using a walking stick, so for me personally it's easier to have the boot accessible.

My other gripe is poor driving behaviours, especially those who don't pause/stop at roundabouts to give way when you're almost on top of them, causing you to brake. Also those who don't indicate when turning off a main road and you're in a junction waiting to get out and they suddenly turn before you. Worse are those who indicate early, so you start to pull out thinking they're turning in to your junction, only to find they want the next junction.
