I took a photo of my loved one along to the funeral yesterday and everytime I was overwhelmed with horrible or sad thoughts I clutched it and tried to bring forward very specific memories and go through all the senses of the time such as in that memory what I could see, hear, smell etc. Just as a way to stay grounded when I felt I was being sucked into a void of sadness.

Sorry for your loss. There are no words to describe it.

Sending my best wishes to you for today. I was doing the same thing, six weeks ago today.

It's not easy - but you will do it.

I found, during the "wake", I had to keep disappearing quietly off on my own, just to have a quiet moment or two - if it helps, do it.

Never lost a spouse but have lost 2 parents. In my experience, you manage because you have no choice. You'll be surprised what you can find the strength to do when you absolutely need to. The hardest bits are generally the procession in and walking out at the end IMO.

The days after the funeral are hard because once you're alone there's an element of letting go of the stuff you had to repress on funeral day. Be gentle on yourself and make sure you have people stopping by periodically.

It is hard, but you will get through it, it doesn't matter how, whether you are a blubbering mess, or somehow manage to hold yourself together. The grief you feel is the other side of love.
Your husbands body may have died but the love you experienced will remain, and give you strength.

I am so sorry. The only way i coped with my parents and sisters was to think this was the last thing i could do for them. Remember everyone there cares and are there not only to say goodbye but to support you. Flowers

It's all a blur, you're just on autopilot, you'll barely remember it trust me. But that doesn't help right now, or ever really. I am so sorry for your loss

Thinking of you, and hoping you find the strength to do or say whatever feels right for you today. I managed by concentrating on my children and trying to minimise their trauma. I found that I didn't cry at all until much later on my own, but the energy it took to get through the day was phenomenal and exhausting by the end of the day.

My sister's funeral was yesterday. It was tough, but you just have to remember to breathe and take it one step at a time. In lots of ways it was positive, as we could see how much she was loved x

Thinking of you. You will get through it and find strength you didn’t know you had. I’m 18 months down the line and honestly looking back at that day gives me some sort of super power - if I survived that nothing will ever be as hard and nothing is now impossible xxx
