Not winning the lottery is making me sad.

That’s it really.

I would be content let happy to win a couple million. Obviously the massive 124 millions jackpots are great, but a couple million I’d be happy with that.

How much would you like to win to really make a difference in your life, not just a good splash about for a nicer house and new car, but really change your life?

That makes sense MrsTerryPratchett.

Possibly why 10K a month on set for life appeals to me more than multi millions all at once.

I would definitely be the outlier though. I will come back and tell everyone about it 20 years after my big win😅

I agree that the '100k a year for life' prizes are massively better. I'd love that.

capricorn12 · 04/07/2023 21:09

My grandad used to put the same numbers on every week on a Saturday. One week they came up, all 6, on the midweek draw. That's the closest I'll get I reckon, so I never do it.

Honeypickle · 04/07/2023 21:35

I also get irrationally upset when I don’t win the Omaze dream house every few months. In my head, I’ve moved into them all, planned where everyone would sleep and the parties we’d have. Can’t understand why it hasn’t happened yet!

Wintry57 · 04/07/2023 21:36

Oh I’m with you on omaze - tbh almost worth it for the fun of mentally moving in.

TitsInAbsentia · 03/07/2023 21:36

I still play in hope...although sometimes I forget, so I never play the same numbers, only lucky dips, cause imagine your numbers came up on a week you'd forgot.... I mostly play the £10,000 a month for life one now because that would set me up beautifully for an early retirement plus would stop me blowing it all overnight!

This happened to me about 20 years ago, I got 5 numbers and the bonus ball but I hadn't played for about 3 weeks... never again I will only do lucky dip now 😭

I find the euromillions more profitable

Peverellshire · 04/07/2023 22:26

Do syndicates mostly win? Worth clubbing together with friends to do this?

cocog · 04/07/2023 22:34

🤣 I always want my £2 back when I don’t win it. would be amazing to win it’s just luck some of us don’t have it. it’s always nice to hear a story of new houses for people who have rented forever and how much poorer peoples lives have changed though and lottery fund dose some great things!

WonderingWhale · 06/07/2023 09:35

Well my ticket runs out this Friday so surely that £54m is mine! I always get a lucky dip as I can't play often so don't want to get attached to "my" numbers.

People who win large amounts typically end up less happy. So I don't play. Either way (disappointment or winning) is likely to make me less happy.

That's unbelievable! Why do you suppose that happens? I'd be over the moon!

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/12/2023 14:24

Over the moon to start with @Tzimi but what things make us happy? Spending time with people we love, achievable goals, and, as long as today is pretty good, tomorrow being similar is how humans like it.

What massive amounts of money do is change our relationships, meaning the people we love get jealous, needy or just don't have as much in common any more. Achievable goals don't make us happy because everything we wanted is now possible and further goals take time to develop. And everything changes very fast. And money makes tomorrow look very different.

It's a form of culture shock. And culture shock is really difficult.

That's probably true for some people, but for me, when I had more money than usual, I was able to go self-employed, so I could spend more time with people I loved, and less time with toxic work colleagues. I could also travel more & visit places I always wanted to see. I could go to concerts & see my favourite artists live, and exhibitions, air shows, museums... When I wanted to, and sometimes together with loved ones & friends. When something broke, I could get it repaired without worrying about the cost.

LongAndWindingRoads · 01/12/2023 14:51

I think what they mean by not making you happier, is that after a year the initial excitement has worn off a bit and new way of life becomes the norm. Nobody is constantly happy twenty four seven. Just to have financial security would be enough for me.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 01/12/2023 14:52

I'm sorry.

Couple OF million.

I truly am sorry it's so petty but it irritates me!

Anyway - onto your question.

If I could win £250k that would pay everything off including mortgage, I'd be so happy with that. £50k would pay off all unsecured debt and a bit left over. Even £10k would be nice!

I don't actually play the lottery though Grin

TroysMammy · 01/12/2023 14:56

A colleague caught me buying a lottery ticket online during my lunchbreak.

She said "I didn't know you played the lottery.

I replied "I do when I'm pissed off in work. To be honest it's costing me a bloody fortune".

ssd · 01/12/2023 18:53

Im angry too even though i never buy a ticket

Starseeking · 01/12/2023 19:18

Tonight's Euromillions is an estimated £173m 😮😮😮

Nobody needs that much money, though I wouldn't mind a tiny proportion. I'd be over the moon with 1% of that lol

Me and DH were just fantasising about winning this tonight. I worked out the interest. If you didn't touch it for a year, you'd earn nearly £9 million in interest! You'd never need to spend much of the capital.

treacledan71 · 12/05/2024 12:54

Me too.i had in march and april
couple 2.99 wins and I did have a 120.00 which was exciting. You know when you get the email to say won and not sure how much as cantlog on. Think I had my luck now. 100k be good for me pay off mortgage and revamp my house

Sendhelp101 · 12/05/2024 13:03

I've already thought about this. Ideally £2million. The first million I'd buy myself and my son a 2/3 bed house with a garden (doesn't have to be fancy just the no garden makes me sat currently and can't afford to move in my area). Then I'd take myself and my immediate family on a nice holiday and hopefully if I've budgeted well buy my mum an rv/caravan as she's really wanted one for ages but won't spend the money on it. The second half I'd pay to retrain in a vocational job so I have security for the future for myself and my son and then save/invest the rest for added security and money for my son should he want his own house/university etc when he's older. Anything else is a bonus!

feelingalittlehorse · 12/05/2024 13:14

This is something that literally pisses me off weekly.

Where are my millions, goddamnit?!?!

Me too. I get the rage when I don't win the euros. Wouldnt say no to a few million but to win big and be able to help loads of people and never work again...amazing. I am unashamedly jealous.
