Would you go to Paris on Monday?

Just canceled a work trip to Paris due to concerns about the volatile situation there. I realize that central Paris is mostly unaffected (so far) but it seems like a bad time to visit. My boss (Paris based) has implied that I am being overly dramatic.

Would you go?

Personally yea I would.

fortheloveofflowers · 01/07/2023 07:47

Yes I would. Just avoid the affected areas 🤷‍♀️

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 01/07/2023 07:54

I wouldn’t, no one knows how bad this will get yet.

NerrSnerr · 01/07/2023 07:54

I would have gone. The riots have all been in the suburbs.?

Harshbutfair · 01/07/2023 07:57

You're being ridiculous

GrumpyPanda · 01/07/2023 07:59

Absurd.

TheOpenRoad · 01/07/2023 07:59

Yes, I'd go. Where in Paris is your office?

BethDuttonsTwin · 01/07/2023 08:02

Your boss, who lives there, says it’s fine. Yes I would go.

SaltyGod · 01/07/2023 08:02

Yes, absolutely I’d have gone. Particularly if my Paris based boss thought it was safe to go. Presumably the office is still open and everyone is still working.

AnImaginaryCat · 01/07/2023 08:04

Yes, you're being overly dramatic.

ZenNudist · 01/07/2023 08:05

Wha? Of course. The only thing reported for Paris itself was a Nike shop looted. The trouble started in a town 9 miles from Paris and there's unrest in some suburbs but nowhere you'd be going. The poor and ghettoised suburbs.

I'd be mortified to cancel a work commitment for such a thin excuse.

IglesiasPiggl · 01/07/2023 08:06

In that instance, yes I probably would have gone. As an adult on your own staying a couple of nights, who isn't parking your car or needing to be out at night, I would say it's fine. I wouldn't take my family for a holiday though.

cobicat · 01/07/2023 08:08

The office is in the 15th, and normally very quiet.

Ok, thanks all - I will agree to go after all (and risk exposing myself as an utter flake!)
It was just that I was watching footage on Twitter overnight and panicked slightly.

I'd think about it very carefully other people depend on me here, thats more important than any job, why do you have to go in person?
Your boss just wants to get the job done, they don't really care about your safety

TwigTheWonderKid · 01/07/2023 08:10

You wouldn't cancel a work meeting in the City or West End of London because of trouble in Croydon, would you?

My teen is going to Paris next week… this has now worried me…

NashvilleQueen · 01/07/2023 08:12

My only anxiety would be about disruption if transport links were affected somehow. But I would probably go anyway.

@NotOnYourNellies
They've set up a meeting with a client that I will be working closely with over the next few months. It's an opportunity to meet with them in person

OP, I would say that the choice is yours. The Irish government has urged citizens to exercise caution.

If I was unfamiliar with Paris, I would not go. Different if you go regularly & are confident of locations.

Keepitonthelow · 01/07/2023 08:20

No I wouldn’t. I just read that travel insurance would be invalid.

Keepitonthelow · 01/07/2023 08:22

Plus there will be travel disruption even if you don’t come across any trouble yourself.

Where did you see this?

travel insurance is only invalid if the FCO says you should not go to France, which I’m fairly sure has not happened

sevenbyseven · 01/07/2023 08:24

Travel insurance is still valid.

Fuck that then, that's not really important , it's a want not an essential , postpone it
My family come first and I wouldn't put them through the worry even if I was fine with it

VintageThoughts · 01/07/2023 08:26

There's another thread in Chat at the moment about this. Might be worth a read?

General consensus on that one seems to be don't go.

Can't link it but title is How is Paris at the moment.
