Bloody Buggering Bollocks!

Bought two new sofas (light coloured). Two days after the sofa arrived my mum accidentally tipped black tea down the cushion of the arm of one of the sofas. DH quickly had to strip the cover off and soak it in water. Slight stain left which we can see but anyone else wouldn't notice unless pointed out.

Two days later I noticed black marks on the new sofa where I had been sitting. Turns out that in the heat I apparently turn the gold plated wrist band of my watch black. I have then managed to wipe this all over the seat of the sofa. DH cleans the sofa with Dr Oitken and luckily a crisis is averted.

Fast forward to tonight and our new carpet was fitted earlier today. DM comes over to see the finished lounge and as I put a cup of tea (black again) on the coffee table I knocked it and poured black tea on our new carpet and scald my DM's foot BlushBlush DH quickly absorbs the tea using paper towel and has gently cleaned the carpet with a diluted carpet cleaner. He says he can still see a stain but I'm hoping it's his imagination!

I've come to bed now and said I'm not setting foot in that bloody lounge again!! It's jinxed.

You must be cursed, tea n coffee at the kitchen table from now on. 😁

Icequeen01 · 27/06/2023 22:21

I honestly think I am cursed. I honestly don't know if to laugh or cry. We have spent a fortune doing up the lounge 😡

Soul-destroying when you spend hard earned money. Hope it all comes out in the wash so to speak.

Why buy light coloured furnishings if you obviously can't do things cleanly or tidily?

oksirnowmoveon · 27/06/2023 22:28

You have my full sympathy- I dropped an iron on my new carpet, somewhere I couldn't really cover with a rug then spilt my "woe is me" wine all over it.

...still there and still paying for it Blush

So unnecessarily sneery

If I were OP, I'd reply quoting your username

Why be a dick?

RainBow725 · 27/06/2023 22:32

That'll be it now - these things always happen in threes, so you're safe now.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 27/06/2023 22:32

No, it’s pre-disastered. Everything will be fine from now on. Every single newly decorated room, or new chair, carpet etc in this house has to have a teeny thing happen to it almost the second it is installed so we can all relax safe in the knowledge that it will all be ok from that point on. 😉

@MandyMotherOfBrian I love that! Now to convince DH. I think he'd rather just drown me at the moment.

I’m an extremely clumsy person and my OH is an extremely messy eater, and for that reason we only have dark carpets and leather (wipeable) sofas! I hope the stains come out completely - it’s so annoying when new items get damaged.

Titsywoo · 27/06/2023 22:44

The day after we had a cream coloured carpet laid our friends son vomitted an entire stomach full of Ribena on it.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 27/06/2023 22:44

I bought gravy/mud coloured sofas for a very good reason. 🙁

These new sofas replaced two dark brown leather sofas which I never once spilt anything on. We had had them for some years and I hated them by the time we gave them away. I am now strangely missing them.

This unit has a godawful dark grey carpet (rental, can't change it) and my mother managed to spill tea on it and make a massive black stain.

This may sound harsh, but it's a lesson we have learned the hard way.

Aw op, when we had just newly carpeted the whole house i promptly did a spectacularly stupid thing with red paint. When we got our new counter tops my dh put two small holes in it pretty much straight away. Previous home, new steel sink and hob, dh scoured both with steel wool, and did something damaging to the new sink in the remodeled bathroom. You've made brave codes with your decor, but the room/ house is for living in!

dudsville · 27/06/2023 23:01

Oh yes, I've also only dropped an iron once in my entire life. I'm so careful because we have dogs, so it's never unattended. The one time i dropped an iron was on a new carpet.

Bluevelvetsofa · 27/06/2023 23:04

In our first house, we had just moved in and we’re decorating. DH came into the living room with a can of gloss paint. The door swung back, hit him and the can flew in the air, lid came off and white gloss paint landed all over the carpet. We absorbed as much as we could, but there was no way of disguising a white stain on a blue carpet.

We refitted it upstairs with the bed over the stain.
