Bloody Buggering Bollocks!

Bought two new sofas (light coloured). Two days after the sofa arrived my mum accidentally tipped black tea down the cushion of the arm of one of the sofas. DH quickly had to strip the cover off and soak it in water. Slight stain left which we can see but anyone else wouldn't notice unless pointed out.

Two days later I noticed black marks on the new sofa where I had been sitting. Turns out that in the heat I apparently turn the gold plated wrist band of my watch black. I have then managed to wipe this all over the seat of the sofa. DH cleans the sofa with Dr Oitken and luckily a crisis is averted.

Fast forward to tonight and our new carpet was fitted earlier today. DM comes over to see the finished lounge and as I put a cup of tea (black again) on the coffee table I knocked it and poured black tea on our new carpet and scald my DM's foot BlushBlush DH quickly absorbs the tea using paper towel and has gently cleaned the carpet with a diluted carpet cleaner. He says he can still see a stain but I'm hoping it's his imagination!

I've come to bed now and said I'm not setting foot in that bloody lounge again!! It's jinxed.

So checked the carpet this morning and you can still see a slight stain but I'm not sure anyone else would notice but us. Considering what it could have looked like I think we got off lucky.

Thanks for all your stories which made me laugh and cringe in equal measures. You helped me feel better and not quite as hapless as some posters clearly felt!

I know photos can be inaccurate but I wouldn't think there was a stain there, from this. Just looks like different shades.

The day after we had a cream coloured carpet laid our friends son vomitted an entire stomach full of Ribena on it.

Oh my god world swallow me now!

frozendaisy · 28/06/2023 07:45

We don't enter houses if there is anything approaching cream carpets in it!

CornedBeef451 · 28/06/2023 08:09

@LaBefana we're the same. Family of spillers so wood floor, leather sofa, even wipeable wall paint.

I can't even blame having toddlers any more, we're all as bad as each other.

I finished decorating our living room, lovely pale carpet and shut the door to keep the cats out. Came back some hours later to find that a jackdaw had come down the chimney, soot absolutely everywhere. The carpet, curtains, walls, new settee, everything covered in greasy soot.
It never looked good after that despite multiple cleaning sessions 😢and I couldn’t affect to start again.

I feel your pain! New carpets across the whole house, the day it went down a pint of beer and a glass of red wine went over the lounge carpet. Not long afterwards my DH was taking read grumpily trying to find something in a wardrobe in the spare bedroom and spilled a bottle of black dye for car bumpers 🤯

A couple I know had their bathroom done out in cream, as now the kids were grown up, there was little chance of mishaps.
Their DD went out, got pissed on pernod and black and threw up all over the cream flooring, rug and bath panel, which stained. Then a month later got green hair dye all over the tiles. That didn't come out either!

3 stories I heard:

A well-off bloke filled a freezer with expensive meat, went away, cleaner came in, unplugged freezer to use vacuum cleaner, didn't plug freezer back in, meat went off, after a while neighbours called police because of smell, fire brigade called in to remove rotten meat and freezer and fumigate house, this ruined antique furniture worth 5-figure sum, insurance refused to pay out.

Pal of DH once house-sat for someone, one night went out, got v. drunk, came back, woke up next day to find he had shat on on v. expensive white carpet in the bedroom.

Woman found boyfriend had cheated, he had gone away for some weeks to come, in his flat she sprinkled grass seeds on expensive white carpet, watered them well and left.

That’s an insurance claim, surely?

Why buy light coloured furnishings if you obviously can't do things cleanly or tidily?

Helpful 🙄

itsgettingweird · 28/06/2023 18:18

You're probably doing these things because you're anxious about keeping it clean.

When your stressed you're naturally more accident prone.

Relax - enjoy your new surroundings.

And maybe acceotnthey won't be Brian's sparkling new and clean forever!

Insurance refused to pay out, ‘Act of God’ apparently.

Cameraduck · 28/06/2023 18:21

Could be worse, we had a new (also light coloured) carpet pit down. Usually strict shoes off house I just popped back in to grab something -dog shit on my shoe. I hid in the kitchen while DH got the carpet washer out. Then one of the kids dropped paint on it. As he says, it’s really ours now, and it’s still cleaner than the old one.

Insurance companies really are bastards sometimes.

If not already suggested, Dr Beckmann carpet stain remover and Dr Beckmann upholstery stain remover are fantastic.
I knocked a full glass of red wine over a cream rug and another over the arm of a light tweed type fabric sofa. Both stains came out without too much effort. Just scrubbed with supplied brush and left overnight. All clear in the morning.
