In the voice of Cpl Jones.

"Don't panic Capt Sunak"

"Hold your nerve"

"They don't like it up em".

We have a choice between extremely bad alternative outcomes

Pmk, late to the party.

Feel free to 'derail' any time you like coeurnoir, that was a well thought out and highly relevant post.

Thank you, and others for your support. There are a lot of my management colleagues in NHSE who are looking to get out due to how they are being treated - yet another restructure done at the whim of a politician who is now long gone - by their own organisation.

The lack of respect for what they do by their own chief exec. It's scandalous.

coeurnoir · 07/07/2023 17:02

On the subject of Jonny mercer he's a local MP to me. Not mine, but next county over. He's not well thought of. Hopefully the SW will be seeing a return to Lib Dems in the next election....

Similar clawback of funds in schools. Don’t even think about saving for a rainy day, or a pandemic/its after effects, or a new boiler, asbestos replacement, more efficient ventilation, staffing for children who start school in obvious need of an EHCP and the (paltry) funding that will eventually attract, to retain experienced teachers and reward them for extra responsibilities…..etc etc. You didn’t spend that money last year (because you didn’t need it) so you can’t have it next year. Obviously there should be a cap of some sort, but not the ridiculous levels currently set.

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/07/2023 18:36

There’s also here’s your budget for this year, we’d like x amount back at the end of the year. Well yes, but you’ve been asking us that for 5 years. There’s only so much left to cut back while the price of everything is going up.

Blossomtoes · 07/07/2023 18:54

That’s been going on for years and it’s infuriating. Just give me the amount I have to spend, ffs!

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/07/2023 19:48

Quite.

pointythings · 07/07/2023 21:18

The Dutch government has just fallen over asylum policy. I'm firmly on the side of those who opposed the measly pathetic cap proposed by the VVD. Even though that puts me on the side of the crazy fundie Christian loons who turn off their website on a Sunday. Strange days.

DuncinToffee · 07/07/2023 21:35

Ha, I was just thinking the same Pointy, horrible policy, glad it didn't get through. Don't pander to the far right.

@DuncinToffee I'm now going to register for permanent voting rights. I've been doing it on a one election at a time basis, but no more.

DuncinToffee · 07/07/2023 21:53

I never registered to vote

The Dutch make it really easy - all you need is your Burger Service Nummer (like the UK NI number) and a valid form of ID. I didn't vote for some years while I was here but took it up again in 2010.

There'sa right one on the Jenrick thread. I hope they are gettingovertime at the weekend.

They've been so rumbled it isn't even funny.
The people on these threads need to keep up the good work calling out the Tory 'representatives' as we get closer to a GE.

AdamRyan · 08/07/2023 10:14

I'm sick of it tbh. They don't even make sense and are rude and hostile

Its odd when the party line is "that didn't happen" though.

IClaudine · 08/07/2023 10:15

The Jenrick one really jumped the shark. They need to learn to be a bit more subtle!

IClaudine · 08/07/2023 10:16

I think the best thing us to ignore them. Maybe report when they are really obvious.

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2023 10:18

I’m loathe to use the comparison given how much it’s been tossed around over the past few years but it really is Orwellian.

It's terrifying, is what it is. Slide into fascism.

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2023 10:25

We’ve been on that slide for a while. It’s terrifying and dangerous.

Personally, that’s why I’m throwing my weight behind the party most likely to unthrone the lot of them. I can make a lot of compromises when I’m confident that at the very least the intention behind policies is for the good of society not certain rancid individuals lining up for a payday/leg up.

Same here.

And to think we are 18 months from a GE and it's that bad now with the attempts at brainwashing and re writing history.

It's gonna get really bad Angry

Notonthestairs · 08/07/2023 10:38

"It's gonna get really bad"

Yes. Particularly if Labour commit to the Leveson reforms.

Blossomtoes · 08/07/2023 10:48

I personally don’t think this lot has another 18 months in them although that might be wishful thinking.

They’re getting frustrated with Sunak already. Apparently five ministers are on the point of mutiny over his refusal to accept pay review body recommendations of around 6% - this is the man who wouldn’t negotiate because he was relying on those same recommendations. If they lose the forthcoming by elections it’s going to be very uncomfortable in No 10.

StormShadow · 08/07/2023 11:09

What they do have is sufficient supply of people who fancy the PM gig themselves- I assume we all agree that Mordaunt's ambitions haven't gone anywhere- and a big enough majority still to drag it out, even if they lose a byelection every few weeks.

There are a lot of people in the parliamentary Tory party, well into the 3 figures, who know they're out on their arses at the next election. They have every incentive to maximise their terms, and historically this is what people in that position do. It's been that way for decades now.

I'm not saying they'll necessarily go right up to 28th January 2025. But this has all the ingredients of a situation where turkeys get to delay voting for Christmas.
