Town of Pryyutne (near Rivnopil) reported liberated. Unconfirmed as yet.

Strategic Klischchiivka being reported by Russian sources as having been taken by Ukraine. Unconfirmed as yet. This location is close to Bahkmut on a ridge - it would give Ukraine ability to hit the logistics route for Russia into Bahkmut if confirmed as accurate. Given what was being reported yesterday this is a realistic possibility.

Weather is reportedly 36 - 38C on the frontline in some places.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 05/07/2023 16:54

Lewisite, a chemical weopon, is reported to have been used. It contains arsenic and the symptoms of poisoning are similar.

There is a counteractent but it needs to be sourced and delivered fast to the front lines :/

@RedToothBrush

Thanks for that piece from the DM, yep, the Baltic was always more of a hot spot for this sort of thing than airspace around the UK and of course with RAF fighters currently deployed to that part of the world they will be more likely involved in any interceptions ATM.

You're into international airspace anytime you are twelve miles or more off shore and over the years intelligence gatherers of various nations have legitimately threaded a bit of the needle in that part of the world whilst going about their business.

From Skynews. Massive explosion in occupied Makiivka. Russia claim it was residential buildings but that's a lot of secondary explosions.

There's a longer clip of this that shows the twenty seconds or so before the explosion. The Russians were storing antiaircraft ammunition in a heap in the interior courtyard of an apartment building. The residents in the town reportedly tipped off the Ukrainians as to the location.

Surplus2requirements · 05/07/2023 21:02

@MissConductUS a fitting fireworks display for your independence celebrations though a day late.

PerkingFaintly · 05/07/2023 21:19

Farkin' 'ell. Hope the residents had all managed to vacate, knowing as they did about their deadly neighbour.

Mb76 · 05/07/2023 21:39

Makiivka is my neck of the woods. It is Donetsk’s neighbouring city, they are practically adjacent. My Mum worked in a tape recorder factory there when I was growing up. We could never afford one of those at the time.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 05/07/2023 22:06

I hope one day it can be rebuilt, @Mb76

It seems that rumours are growing stronger that Klischchiivka has been taken which as @RedToothBrush says means all routes into Bakhmut can be fired on now and evacuation of Russian soldiers is not safe.

There were reported to be 700 civilians left in Bakhmut when it was captured. I wonder what their situation is now.

RedToothBrush · 05/07/2023 22:19

Another big hit on Makiivka tonight. Oil depot this time apparently. The Ukrainian obviously have decent intel from there ATM.

RedToothBrush · 05/07/2023 22:22

#Ukraine's General Staff says the occupied parts of the country downstream from the destroyed #KakhovkaDam are showing signs of cholera.

They claim there is a leap of symptoms among patients in #Skadovsk and #Henichesk, but #Russia's puppet 'government' hides the cases.

@MissConductUS a fitting fireworks display for your independence celebrations though a day late.

Ukraine released several videos on the 4th wishing us a happy Independence Day and expressing their deep appreciation for all the support they've received from America. Someone must have been chopping onions nearby, as I found myself tearing up a bit watching one of them. I think they will be a loyal ally for generations, which must greatly annoy the Russians.

When we fought for our independence, we had support from France, Spain, and the Netherlands. The French even sent troops. It's fitting that we do the same for others in their time of need.

He's in re-election mode, so he may think that this will help him politically. That's odd, as very few voters in the US care who is heading NATO.

Yes agreed, not the most logical choice given her "previous"....

There does appear to be a bit of a problem in finding an acceptable NATO head who has held office at Prime Minister or equivalent level......

https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-july-5-2023

Key Takeaways:

  • Ukrainian forces reportedly conducted counteroffensive operations in five sectors of the front on July 5 and made gains in some areas.
  • Ukrainian forces reportedly conducted a series of missile strikes targeting Russian rear positions along the entire front overnight and during the day on July 5.
  • Ukrainian and Russian officials maintained their heightened rhetoric regarding the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) on July 5 following significant claims of a possible attack against the plant overnight on July 4-5. Russia likely continues setting informational conditions for a possible false flag attack against the ZNPP, but remains unlikely to cause a radiological incident at this time.
  • Ukrainian officials reported that Russia continues to procure Iranian-made Shahed drones and is setting conditions to manufacture these drones in Russia with Iran’s assistance.
  • The Kremlin continues to show concern over the risk of a potential armed rebellion in Russia after Wagner Group’s rebellion on June 24.
  • The Financial Times (FT) reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping personally warned Russian President Vladimir Putin against threatening to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine during his visit to Moscow in late March.
  • Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin dismissed Sergei Mikhailov from his position as General Director of TASS state newswire and replaced him with Andrey Kondrashov.
  • Russian forces continued offensive operations along the Kupyansk-Svatove line, and Russian and Ukrainian forces continued skirmishing around Kreminna.
  • Ukrainian forces conducted successful offensive operations in the Bakhmut area, and Russian milbloggers reported that Ukrainian forces liberated an important height near Klishchiivka (7km southwest of Bakhmut).
  • Russian and Ukrainian forces continued ground attacks along the Avdiivka-Donetsk City line.
  • Ukrainian forces continued ground attacks in the western Donetsk Oblast-eastern Zaporizhia Oblast border area and in western Zaporizhia Oblast.
  • A Ukrainian official confirmed that Ukrainian forces maintain positions in east (left) bank Kherson Oblast.
  • Ukrainian officials reported that Russia’s hybrid cryptomobilization and contract service recruitment campaigns have failed to produce large numbers of recruits, contrary to Russian claims.
  • Russian officials are setting information conditions to postpone regional elections in occupied Ukraine likely out of concerns for successful Ukrainian counteroffensives.

Oh that's hilarious!

Are those the same wigs which were "found" with The Sims cards and packet-creased T-shirts in a previous episode of the Russian security services' long-running series "What We Found in Our Enemy's Lair"?

What is their obsession with wigs?

⚡️⚡️Air Force explains why so many missiles flew to Lviv
"The enemy worked out a route using both the terrain and riverbeds, in this case the Dnipro. The missiles seemed to be flying towards Kyiv, but they turned sharply towards Lviv. They could have been intercepted by fighter jets. And some of the missiles were intercepted by fighter aircraft, but it was a very small part. An F-16 could have handled it," - emphasized Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat.

The mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ukraine has not reached the left bank of the Dnipro River in a month after the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant was blown up.
Two days after the dam was blown up, on June 8, Ukraine and the UN agreed to evacuate the victims from the occupied territories. The UN and ICRC expected security guarantees from Russia, but it has not yet provided them. [fat lot of use they are]

Last night, Russia tested disconnecting itself from the global internet. On July 5, around 2-4am Moscow time, authorities tested the Sovereign Internet system which led to disruptions of various websites & government infrastructure services 1/

2/ Russian railroad services and food safety systems were reportedly disrupted after the Sovereign Internet testing on the morning of July 5

3/ Experts also reported various disruption of Western internet services such as Google, Wikipedia, get lantern and Psiphon Inc between 2 and 4am Moscow time on July 5

4/ Given the fears of blocking of YouTube, Telegram, and the last remaining sources of accurate information in Russia, this development is extremely alarming

Someone will know better but I think they blocked a lot of sites but that can be got around by using a VPN.
Complete Internet isolation is a whole other level.
