Because it seems to have had zero planning and the only intention was essentially "I'm going to kill those bastards".

Which is odd don't you think given how successful he was during his losing his shit moment, captured the southern base of the Russian military and marched on to Moscow with very little to trouble him.
So either the Russian military really are as rubbish as rumour has it or we have just been watching some sort of pantomime ?

2021 Russia had the 2nd best army in the world.
2022 Russia had the 2nd best army in Ukraine.
2023 Russia has the 2nd best army in Russia.

He has completely humiliated Putin. He won't be getting a free pass to anywhere.

All true...

Well there's a funny thing ...

Poor old Russians facing the Ukranians doing better than expected in their counter-offensive. Supply lines a bit tricky. Hard to strike Kyiv. It would really help if they could launch an attack from Belarus, but one can't really trample through other, friendly, countries to persue one's war. Suddenly, Wagner is invited by the Belarussian leadership to make a base in Belarus. Amazing coincidence.

NotDavidTennant · 24/06/2023 21:58

Prigozhin bottled it and now goes into exile in Belarus. Sooner or later he will fall out of a window.

Dymaxion · 24/06/2023 22:00

The majority of the Russian military for those oblasts is in Ukraine, though.

I thought Wagner were in Ukraine as well, particularly concentrated in Bakmut, which is a good couple of hours away from Rostov ? So did they flee the frontline and head for Rostov or was there already a prescence in or very close to Rostov ?

This kind of thinking really isn't doing anyone favours. You're so far off base, it's just not true

And yet after nearly 18 months, the Russian army has still not taken Ukraine. That is Russia, APKA as a Superpower.

This sadly wouldn't surprise me at all....it almost seems to neat somehow

That was my thinking above. An offensive from Belarus, stretching UKR resources further. And who better to lead it than Wagner Group

Dymaxion · 24/06/2023 22:17

They got stood down so the regulars could takeover, IIRC. They've not been doing much for a month or so and certainly not since the MoD decided they wanted them merged into the RuAF.

So how come Mr Prigozhin decided to lose his shit about air strikes on his troops now ?

Why the charade though? If Putin had wanted a Wagner-led offensive from Minsk, Lukashenko wouldn't have stood in his way would he?

I was thinking this. Plus, if it was entirely orchestrated, then Putin would’ve stayed in Moscow rather than running away. Surely Putin would’ve made a show of ‘standing firm’ in Moscow if he felt himself to be safe?

Russia already has troops in Belarus and used them in the Kyiv offensive. Putin doesn't need Prigozhin to set anything up there. He is being pushed aside.

stbrandonsboat · 24/06/2023 22:37

Where is this going to leave Ukraine then? Does it mean that Wagner fighters will no longer be in Ukraine? Who will lead them if they're staying? What is Priggy going to do all day in Belarus?

Igotjelly · 24/06/2023 22:38

Oh man did I miss a shill? Been on all day and managed to miss it 😂

Yes, it seems that the rather obtuse Pavitr has been binned 🙂
