Just that really. What song do you want to be remembered/known for?

I've thought about this lots and it changes frequently! Would absolutely love 'Sweet child of mine' sung by the congregation or a choir, there was a scene in a film that I can't remember the name of where they all sang it at the burning of the body viking style- loved it 😊Maybe also a few favourite songs, Beatles...Aretha Franklin. Definitely a funny song at the end. Some of the funny ones on this thread have made me chuckle!

You’re right Blossomtoes. It’s an important part of the grieving process.

That’s interesting, diddl. I wasn’t sure!

I I'm quite drawn to McAlmont and Butler's Yes at the moment. But also my DC were in a well known band when at school and I'd quite like one of their recordings too. Except it might ruin it for them!

My mum left instructions in a sealed envelope which I found after she died. So we were able to insert three chosen songs into her service. Bravo mum ❤️

Monty python - always look on the bright side.

When DF died he didn't want a funeral, so we had him home for a day and then he went for a direct cremation. As they were carrying him out for the last time, the playlist we were playing played this..... the pall bearers crashed into the door then struggled for ages to open it. I'm convinced he was looking down making it happen and pissing himself laughing.

The theme music from Black Beauty.
I think it's called Galloping Home.

Reba82 · 23/06/2023 16:59

I've had the time of my life - Dirty Dancing

A funeral service at a crematorium can be whatever you want it to be .

Interesting. Is a crematorium a place where the body is burnt afterwards or is it buried? Or it can be either and the word “crematorium service” is used for both?

Goin' back by dusty Springfield

Ah, great taste. My choice too then 'I am woman' to get everyone inspired and uplifted after this tragic event!

Tonight we fly -The Divine Comedy, it sums it upSmile

I only recently discovered a version of Dear Lord and Father of Mankind by Neil Hannon and am now quite convinced I would like that at my funeral. I'm not religious at all but love that particular hymn and his version would be a nice twist.

A crematorium is where cremation is carried out. Very few people in the UK are buried now.

I used to love that series.....not yesterday sigh

A very flamboyantly gay friend of mine died last Autumn aged just 50 but had already planned his funeral songs. They included an obscure and dramatic sounding piece of Opera music.

The final song was “Spice Up Your Life@ by the Spice Girls! 😂

Flogging molly, "If I ever leave this world alive".

We had this for my dads funeral. He's Irish & it was very fitting.
He met the band a few years ago and said then he wanted that as his exit number!

imjustanerd · 23/06/2023 17:34

I'm my life by The Beatles

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 23/06/2023 17:39

Well currently, Going Home by Dory Previn. I am going through this thread to see if that choice can be bettered.

londonmummy1966 · 23/06/2023 17:41

I'd like So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye from the Sound of Music but I expect I'll get something from Faure's Requiem or The Messiah

NannyGythaOgg · 23/06/2023 17:47

Green Green Grass by George Ezra - Just for the chorus. ('You'd better throw a party on the day that I die').

inappropriateraspberry · 23/06/2023 17:48

I like the sound of a direct cremation - I don't need everyone traipsing fro pillar to post.
They can have a party, go for a meal, even have a church service if it's what they want. I won't be there - I won't care what they're doing!

HollywoodTease · 23/06/2023 17:50

Always Somewhere by The Scorpions ❤️

I also want So long, farewell. And Requiem by Gary Barlow. My son has his instructions 😁

When he was dying my uncle loved watching Dad's Army, so his leaving music was Who Do You Think You Are Kidding, Mr Hitler?

You will be surprised. I'm a funeral arranger and we get plenty of burials still. Often its people with a family plot with more space to bury on top of existing deceased. There is less space now for burials it's true, but still people who want it because of their religion.

Tina221 · 23/06/2023 17:58

I’ve joked that it will be Highway to Hell, but it will be Time To Say Goodbye. Pp’s auntie’s song of The Only Way is Up made me smile 💐

Sparkletastic · 23/06/2023 18:02

My willow casket will come in to the strains of Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack and it will go out to And She Was by Talking Heads. The DCs have been instructed as DH just looks at me blankly every time I mention my last wishes.
