It's tantamount to grooming in plain sight.

Catsanfan · 20/06/2023 14:52

I know! I could honestly cry if this is true

My dd is in year 5 and is having rse lessons. I have been sent what they are showing in the class and it's not like this. Dd does go to a catholic school so may be different. Are you able to speak/ send a message to teacher before tomorrow to ask exactly what will be said/shown?

Harrythehappypig · 20/06/2023 14:59

My DC is having sex Ed at the moment.
mixed classes, male teacher from the school who she doesn’t like much anyway. Loathes it. Asked me if she could leave before it after the first week (it’s last thing on a Friday) but I said she should stay, this week she has told me she is absolutely not going. I don’t understand why they can’t split the class into male and female and have the same material taught to each with a male teacher for the boys and a female for the girls. Am sure she would have been much more responsive to the class this way. My instinct is that it’s wrong of me to tell her she has to tolerate something of a sexualised nature if she doesn’t feel comfortable and I shouldn’t insist that she stays.

eatingaburgerinthesun · 20/06/2023 15:00

Also should say I am very open talking about sex with my dc's but would pull them out if this was the lesson it's to
Much

Nomorenonbinary · 20/06/2023 15:00

Not a lot of actual facts in that article.

Harrythehappypig · 20/06/2023 15:01

My DC is 14 and as far as I can tell is happy to ask me questions if she wants to.

Jk987 · 20/06/2023 15:09

Is it true? Is it a handful of schools or the majority of them? So wrong and the kids are too young.

Catsanfan · 20/06/2023 15:11

@Jk987 I know, I hope to god my child's school does not subscribe to this. I hope not many schools are doing this, as @DeeplyMovingExperience said its basically grooming by stealth

Contact the head asap and ask what materials and providers are being used. Most school are told to share content with parents although there has been a recent case where parent was refused, took school to court and lost the case which is very worrying!
Hopefully head will be receptive to your concerns.

Please someone tell me this isn't true: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12189041/Twelve-year-olds-taught-anal-sex-school-nine-year-olds-told-masturbate.html?utm_source=flipboard&utm_content=DailyMailUS%2Fmagazine%2FTop+Stories&fbclid=IwAR3WuJOPuV--qT9HzYzF_w29zp_45vPHslHRYrD_gNsNg5c4dEM8UQ1YMxg

Sorry for mail link. The masturbation photos make me want to hurl, my 10 yo has RSE tomorrow and I am completely freaking out!

How about you talk to your child's school and get an outline of what is and isn't being discussed. The daily Mail and a forum full of people that don't know what your child's school follows are not reliable sources of information

Boomboxinmyattic · 20/06/2023 15:17

Why are you allowing yourself to be taken in by the Daily Mail's idiot-bait? They are literally making up this shite to get you riled up.

LlynTegid · 20/06/2023 15:24

I would not be surprised if this is only at a very small number of schools.

The person who suggested boys taught by men on this, girls by a woman, I agree with.

mindutopia · 20/06/2023 16:00

Don't be inflammatory. If you look at where the vast majority of this information comes from, it doesn't come from schools. It's from various places online where the Daily Fail has sourced the craziest click baity stuff they can find. My dc are in Y5 and currently doing RSE and I can assure you this isn't what they are being taught.

BodegaSushi · 20/06/2023 16:19

The text in one of the photos looks far too advanced to be read by 9 year olds. Writing is too tiny for starters.

AlisonDonut · 20/06/2023 16:26

The Daily Mail have made all this up, it isn't happening, these companies do not exist, there are no lesson plans that you are not allowed to know about, nothing to see here.

Just keep calm and carry on. There's a good girl.

If it's not made up then more facts and proof needs to be provided.

It's been documented for years on the FWR section of this very forum.

These companies do exist. There was recently a discussion with founder of one on Radio 4. Schools have outsourced the provision of RSE to private companies who have their own agendas. These companies are not regulated by Ofsted (or anyone).

QueenVerilas · 20/06/2023 16:38

Oh and yes, companies don't want to make their materials public for issues of 'commercial sensitivity' ( they claim).

Yes I know.

It was sarcasm.

What a load of sensationalist bollocks.

And what is actually wrong with teaching g teenagers what the parts of their bodies are called. Masturbation is normal and shouldn't be shameful.

That isn't the issue.

If it stopped there I don't think anyone would have an issue.

Sensationalist bollocks, please don't give them any new ideas for secret lesson plans!

Catsanfan · 20/06/2023 16:45

I know masturbation is normal but children should not be set trying it for homework or shown graphic pictures of it, IMO that's borderline sexual abuse
