I mean, if I was telling my children to go and masturbate and showing them graphic pictures of it, that would be considered abuse

Are they actually telling them to try it as homework?!

Catsanfan · 20/06/2023 17:32

It seems like it but I hope not

This is a good place to read well researched information about what is happening in schools. Every parent who cares about what their child is being taught should start here.

JFC, apart from the stuff about transgender people and gender ID, it really isn't that bad! Just a few critical notes to counter the DM's extremely sensationalist reporting:

Can you imagine the outrage if girls were not taught that they could pregnant before their first period and one did?

Plenty of 11 year olds masturbate, so nowt wrong with the info about that.

Anal sex is only mentioned to destigmatize it, there's no suggestion that anyone try it. Kids will figure out that it's possible, so better to teach them.

Young children need to know the words for their body parts and a drawing seems the safest option.

The DM is claiming that "X resource teaches/ tells kids to do Y", when it's plain to see from the images that that isn't true.

The DM hates teachers but at the same time seems to think they have supernatural powers over kids. And yes, I am a teacher

Oh no, not anti trans. The horror.

Catsanfan · 20/06/2023 17:59

@Crustsamongus So you think it's fine for 10 year olds to be presented with pictures of people frantically wanking?! Telling them about factually is one thing, the pictures are just perverse and I bet any child presented with them would want to die of mortification

Children don't need schools permission to 'let' them do this, do they?

Exactly

You either have terrible reading comprehension skills or you are being deliberately disingenuous.

fiftyandfat · 20/06/2023 18:04

Any mention of safeguarding women and children is regarded as anti trans by some people. Generally I think parents can read information and then check with their child's school if they wish.
It is interesting that only this week a parent has been denied the right to know what her child is being taught in the PHSE lessons at her school.
When my DC were at school I was sent a copy of the syllabus outline for each subject in order that I could support homework etc.

Maddy70 · 20/06/2023 18:06

I teach in a secondary school delivering part of this curriculum. This is definitely not what is taught ...this is a daily mail article it is discussed in the last year of school but with a light touch

Catsanfan · 20/06/2023 18:06

I am being neither she literally says 'plenty of 11 year olds masturbate, so nowt wrong with the info about that' some of that information is pictures of people masturbating. A chap online had the pictures censored on YouTube, but they're fine for a 10 year old?!

You have been told repeatedly that it's not true. Some of the people telling you this are teachers who teach this subject.

This is fascinating. Do keep it up.

It's like the narcissists prayer.

It isn't happening
If it was my nieces/nephews/cousins would be all over it
If they werent all over it, it is the Daily Mail Clickbait
If it isn't the Daily Mail clickbait, the journalist is unpleasant and slimy
If it isn't the unpleasant and slimy journalist, it's just for morons.
If it isn't for morons, it's fine to show kids how to masturbate and give them masturbation homework, it's all natural.

It's no wonder these people can get this shit in schools without anyone noticing.

Yep, PIE Bingo!

ohfook · 20/06/2023 18:21

The schools I work in certainly do nothing like this. They use jigsaw and the main components seem to be more linked to relationships than sex. There's definitely nothing that's mentioned in the dm article.

My kids' school sent out information to all parents to let them know the content of their RSE curriculum, which I think all schools should do, and again nothing like this. Although I don't remember the name of their scheme.

I don't know if the is just typical DM scaremongering or if it is accurate in some parts of the country, but the best thing to do is just to contact the school and ask.

I do feel as if they're gunning for sex Ed a bit at the minute. There was an opinion piece the other day basically saying it's pointless when evidence shows great outcomes in countries that do it properly.

Many schools do not use the materials evidenced in the Mail article. Sadly some do. As this government have failed to offer schools detailed advice about age appropriate SRE, some teachers buy in resources & trainers from organisations like SSE - a queer theory based organisation that despite working with primary children, had to apologise for their online links to fetish groups and hid the details of their“facilitators” when a parent discovered some of them had commercial interests in the sex industry including promoting pornography. "One of the teachers described themselves as a “master fetish trainer”.

Transgender Trend have done an analysis of how queer theory is influencing teaching sex ed to children and the results are not pretty.

https://www.transgendertrend.com/identity-politics-sex-education-schools/

Adults wanting to talk to other people's children about sex and relationships should not have a personal agenda involving porn, kinks, fetish or queer theory.
Children deserve better and it's important that parents are fully aware and confident that their child's school is dealing with this responsibly. Most do - but some have outsourced it to organisations completely unsuited to working with children.

Sex education group regrets web links to fetish material

An organisation that provides sex education lessons in schools has apologised for posting links on its website to “regrettable” material about fetishes, sex toy

Many people call things "x phobic' as a squirrel to take the attention away from the topic.

The safe schools alliance has one story from a mother whose kids were being taught that bestiality was a thing. Nice huh.

Those that shout 'x phobe' or call people morons or say that its click bait are only there to divert your attention away from the issue at hand. I'd suggest not being drawn to their constant chipping into the conversation and do your own research into what it is that is being taught to your child, erm, tomorrow.

Catsanfan · 20/06/2023 18:38

I said that in support of you, as in can that poster really not tell the difference between racism and being gender critical. It's probably too late for me to find out now, we did have a word list that they might hear, and masturbation wasn't on it. Will definitely ask the school in time for next week, though

Anal sex shouldn't be de-stigmatised. It causes injury in young girls. I heard a surgeon talking about it and it was pretty horrific and can't be put right.
