Missing Titanic submarine

How horrifying that a submarine carrying 5 people has gone missing. Apparently there’s only 96 hours of air on the submarine when it sets off.

The people on board must be terrified!

Are they waiting?
Why?
If the sub went down on Sunday 8am GMT and they can last 56hours ( with 5 people ) and that’s assuming none of them are panicking as that will use up more oxygen what are they waiting for.
News stated it takes 8hours to get to the bottom plus the time to get them back up again. Why would you wait to, every second counts at the moment.
If they went under at 8am then they have 2 hours left.!! Max.

Hoping and praying for a miracle.

Just read a bbc article saying they still have 70hours of oxygen left.
News articles on this are conflicting!

Let’s hope the latter is the case.

I read that about a distress signal (sky news I think) but they didn't know the time it had been sent.

The SKY report is based on comment from a university oceanologist who said he has "second hand knowledge" that a "signal" has been received, but he doesn't know when. He did refer to it as an emergency ping, but he doesn't know if a human sent it or if it was autogenerated.

I doubt this (named) person would have said anything about this at all unless he was very, very sure of his source. But he doesn't have any real detail

nowayhomer · 20/06/2023 14:14

I also read that oxygen would run out around 11am uk time

Sorry that was meant to say Thursday 11am

Winnerturkeydinner · 20/06/2023 14:15

I'd have thought the build up of co2 would nt be good. It has no ventilated

toomuchlaundry · 20/06/2023 14:18

@Winnerturkeydinner think they have a system that converts CO2

Igneococcus · 20/06/2023 14:18

@Winnerturkeydinner there will be CO2 scubbers, but they need power, so it depends if there is battery power left.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 20/06/2023 14:19

I keep checking sky news. It is horrifying.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 20/06/2023 14:22

It really is.

blacksax · 20/06/2023 14:23

One finds oneself praying for a miracle.

3luckystars · 20/06/2023 14:27

I wonder do they have an emergency plan to go and stay at a specific spot near the Titanic or try to get up to the surface. When they got lost for 2 hrs last year, did they make a plan then.

I am really hoping for a miracle for them.

CinderRosie · 20/06/2023 14:27

I keep refreshing BBC news, it makes me panicky just imagining it, even worse if there is no light.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 20/06/2023 14:27

I have just looked at a video of the inside of that submarine and felt claustrophic at the thoughts of being in it before it went out to sea.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 20/06/2023 14:30

I just keep thinking of the scenarios of how it unfolded. Would they have a bit of a joke initially before the reality sets in, then it turns to concern and fear? Anger even?

Florissante · 20/06/2023 09:12

They do. It's called philanthropy. Look at the Gates Foundation.

A billionaire who isn't involved in vanity projects like going into space and plumbing th depths of the ocean just because they can.

You make my point.

If their flight changes in the US then they’ll need a visa. Can’t get on the flight without it.

Why are people so obsessed with the games controller? It's just an interface essentially.

Exactly- the US Navy uses Xbox 360 controllers on its £2 billion Virginia class nuclear attack submarine, so nothing unusual here.

Am I right in thinking that there is one woman and four men on board?

No they're all men

whatsappdoc · 20/06/2023 14:43

Five men. The CEO, an expert, UK billionaire, Pakistani/UK business man and his son.

An interesting visual comparison of various sea depths:

For comparison, the recent terrible tragedy with the migrant boat sinking near Greece - its thought that the wreck is sitting at over 5000m down. I'd never thought the Mediterranean was so deep.

That was a very interesting video, thanks for posting it!

I can't even contemplate doing Eurotunnel as it's under the water shudders I hope their end is quick as I don't see how they can be found in time.

I believe there is a women on the ship who had been on the last submersible trip which lead to some confusion.

The woman from the video posted at the beginning of this thread was supposed to be on it. She hasn’t updated her Instagram since she posted a picture of being on the North Atlantic 6 days ago.
