How old is 'too old' for a child to be naked at a splash park?

Sitting here with the 4yo niece charge at a splash park... 6/7 year old girl running round starkers! I'm a bit shocked tbh.

Now I have been "caught short" before, but she's just been sent in the water in her knickers, because she can always just go commando on the way home.

I think anything around 3+ is too old tbh.

It's not necessary for any age to be naked there!

loislovesstewie · 19/06/2023 16:45

I don't think any age should be naked at this sort of place. Unfortunately I met many paedophiles due to my work, we had to make sure they were not housed near schools, playgrounds etc because they were getting their kicks from being near kids, and secondly they would often groom the parent so that they could get even closer. That nice old man might not be so nice, if you only knew.

TimeToMoveIt · 19/06/2023 16:45

They should have something on their bottom half at all ages imo

LolaSmiles · 19/06/2023 16:46

As an individual, I wouldn't be bothered being in the presence of a naked younger child, but I also think allowing it in public is a highly unwise decision.

Creeps are known to try to gain access to, and contact with, children. It seems obvious to me that although most adults are not harmful, those who are harmful would seek to hang around places they're likely to be able to perv on children.

Simonlebonbon · 19/06/2023 16:48

I used to let my kids (toddling age) run naked at the beach etc, just like I did.
Now though, so many weirdos with instant access to take photographs etc, I won't allow it now.
So sad too, nothing more fun for kids to have a run around in the nud!
I think we just all need remember how dangerous the world is, its nothing to do with the nudity ifyswim.

Splash parks/beaches/anywhere public kids now need clothes.

My eldest son loved being naked (sensory) so I'm grateful that it wasn't as bad in those days for phones etc to have cameras 😅

Nellynoowhoareyou · 19/06/2023 16:48

I’m quite surprised this is pretty much unanimous. That would not have bothered me at all.

-is the consensus the same regardless of sex? I notice a few people specifying girls but presumably it’s the same for boys?

-would opinions be the same if the scenario were on the beach?

My child is 5 currently outgrowing age 7 clothes btw.

museumum · 19/06/2023 16:49

Spontaneous swims/splash parks for my ds were always in pants once he was wearing pants. When he was in nappies then I'd take it off if it got soaked as they get so heavy and impossible for them. So I guess the cut off is around 2.5-3yrs for me.
Like others, if not prepared with kit, I let him swim in pants then go commando under his shorts/trousers home.

Matildaandthemouse · 19/06/2023 16:50

I’ve never allowed DD or DS to be naked in public, I’ve seen plenty of naked kids at water parks/beach/swimming pool showers though, it doesn’t bother me personally, I just ignore it.

cadetmumstress · 19/06/2023 16:00

This. It's a public place so no level of nakedness is appropriate. Pants if necessary due to lack of swimwear available for an unplanned trip.

Agree

Brendabigbaps · 19/06/2023 16:52

Another vote for no child should be naked at a splash park.

LolaSmiles · 19/06/2023 16:53

For me it would be the same.
Naked younger children wouldn't bother me as a person, but I think it's unwise to allow any child to play naked in a public place when creeps are going to seek out and target places where they can get their kicks.

WonderDays · 19/06/2023 16:59

same for me too, pop a little swimming costume on all age DC.

Mylifeislikeaboatrace · 19/06/2023 16:59

Our old neighbour's 9 year old used to go out in their garden naked, cartwheeling and running around, being over looked by about ten bedroom windows.
Used to make me feel uncomfortble.

I thing kids should go naked in sprinklers if they want. In much of Europe it is completely normal. I have seen kids in Holland on the beach aged 9 or 10, completely unembarrassed- so lovely

Same in Sweden. I picked DS(10) up from from school/childcare on Friday and they had a sprinkler on as it was roasting. The kids (1-11) were all running around the school garden naked.

Bernadinetta · 19/06/2023 17:03

Off track but OP, “caught short” means a sudden urge to use the toilet when no toilet is nearby.

gogohmm · 19/06/2023 17:06

Having been on holiday in Spain where there was mostly Spanish people on the beach, most the kids were naked up to 8. I'll be honest too and say I swim naked on beaches where it's allowed!

loislovesstewie · 19/06/2023 17:06

And at the beach too, weirdos will go anywhere if they can get a glimpse of a naked child or baby.

pontipinemum · 19/06/2023 17:08

@Beamur ""So unless you want your kid to be wank fodder for a pedo I would keep them covered up.""

I actually made a face of disgust when I read this but you're right that is the grim reality of it.

My DS is 11 months and he won't be going out naked in public. I even put a face cloth over his penis before I take pics of him in the bath myself!

blahblahblah1654 · 19/06/2023 17:08

I wouldn't want my 3 year old son running around naked at a splash park or beach. Pants or swim shorts needed. Don't know what kind of weirdos are about.

viques · 19/06/2023 17:15

Most kids wear knickers or pants ( though we used to get caught out with some kids changing for pe who has obviously dressed themselves that morning) so why can’t they splash about in their underwear if you haven’t brought swimming stuff? As the OP says they can go home commando.

Droopy paddling pool water heavy nappies look pretty grim for tinies though , so would probably be happy to whip those off for a ten minutes paddle. They could keep their shorts or leggings on if they were wearing them and you felt uncomfortable .

Bernadinetta · 19/06/2023 17:03

Off track but OP, “caught short” means a sudden urge to use the toilet when no toilet is nearby.

It can also be used in the context the OP used, ie finding yourself in a situation where you have forgotten, or not planned to bring, something you realise you need.

Buyyouflowers · 19/06/2023 17:20

They should never be naked.

went to the beach recently and spotted 3 different kids naked. Their parents need to have a word with themselves.

Why?

Get a grip

OhmygodDont · 19/06/2023 17:30

In an age where everybody has a camera on them at all times. Never.

Not in a splash park or at a beach. My children anit ending up naked on some sharing website. Nope no thank you.

If they want to be naked in the water then in your own garden/pool/bath etc

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 19/06/2023 17:31

While I wouldn't let my child that age be nude I don't have a problem with it.
