I also find that looking at myself in the mirror spurs me on.

Oh and guess what? We're going away next week so I ordered loads of new tops and they're all too big! That actually cheered me up. I don't mind that I had to put another order in and pay extra for a quick delivery.

I started day 6 of my fast tonight at 7:30pm I’ll break the fast tomorrow at around 11:30 maybe 12:30.
the first 2 days were hard but then day 3 I ended up doing 18.5hours because i got stuck in a meeting and i felt okay.

my starting weight was 74kg I stood on the scale this morning and weighed 71kg but I’m not officially weighing until the 11th - every two weeks.
I actually need to move the scale out sight as it’s too tempting to weigh frequently

I don't know if anyone is still reading this thread, but it's been just over a month, and I've lost another 10 lb.

I added Orlistat to my regime.

That’s actually not true @Booklover40 where you have said “Fasting works because you are in a calorie deficit - it isn’t really rocket science”
Read the obesity code by Jason Fung or fast feast repeat by Gin Stephens. Fasting is all about lowering your insulin and tapping into stored fat which you can’t do when you are aren’t fasting. Yes you can’t lose weight by eating more than your body consumes but fasting helps preserve your metabolism so that your calories out don’t reduce if you just lower your calories in.

There are also many health benefits especially once you reach the 18+ hour mark. Google autophagy. Milk in your coffee is not fasting.

AnIntrovert · 05/09/2023 19:00

I believe the health benefits of fasting come from losing the weight, not from the fasting itself, because in trials, those fasting without any reduction in calories and without changes in weight didn't improve metabolic markers.

I've been fasting for about 6 months now and I love it! I'm not overweight but my weight was creeping up thanks to the menopause and I do it because I want to stay at the weight I've always been.

I actually do have milk in my drinks, either oat or soya depending on what I'm drinking.

Reviving this thread as I want to try intermittent fasting. I need to lose four stones and I’m pre diabetic, now on the edge of diabetes. I don’t really snack anyway but breakfast is my favourite meal. I’m going to try to start moving it back an hour at a time . So start with 10 am to 6 pm and then try to wait till 11 am etc.
Anyone else in the same boat?

I do 14:10. So I eat between 730am and 530pm I prefer it so I can have 3 meals but I also track calories to make sure I'm not eating too much

AnIntrovert · 22/06/2024 20:11

@EvangelistaSister the first week try to keep an eye on calories intake because it all comes down to that. Fasting without calorie reduction doesn't cause any weight loss. IF is a way to reduce how many calories you eat in a certain time period, be it a day or a week.

EvangelistaSister · 22/06/2024 21:14

It’s as much for blood sugar control as calorie intake.

AnIntrovert · 22/06/2024 21:35

What you eat in the non-fasted hours will matter as much as the hours you fast to improve blood glucose.
Good luck and I hope both parameters, the weight and blood glucose, go in the right direction!
