I use unsweetened soya milk which barely has any calories and I drink tea with this in outside of eating hours. Doesn't seem to affect my weight loss.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 19/06/2023 15:45

I've started recently.i only eat 1200 calories between 1.30pm and 8.30pm

waistchallenge · 19/06/2023 15:52

I'm another one that has to confess to having milk in tea during my fasting time 😳. I have been meaning to get some green tea which doesn't have milk added normally, though. I know it would be better not to, and I'm not doing it for the calories but rather the taste, I just need some form of caffeinated drink to keep me energised through the day.

I tell myself that I'd probably give up on the fasting if I didn't do this.

I use skimmed milk but may switch to soya if that's fewer calories/carbs, or would almond milk be better? 🤔

J0S · 19/06/2023 17:00

Skimmed milk has more carbs than full fat milk. If you can’t manage without , why don’t you take coffee with cream ?

Whatliesbeneath707 · 19/06/2023 17:06

Can I ask what sort of weight losses are you seeing with fasting? Thanks.

Whatliesbeneath707 · 19/06/2023 17:09

@Whydoesnothingwork have you come across Dr Mindy Pelz? She did the Diary of a CEO podcast recently & she had lots of information on fasting. It's well worth a listen - lots of good info on hormones too.

JimnJoyce · 19/06/2023 17:16

ive been thinking about doing this too but have to take medication at certain times throughout the day that days take after eating

JimnJoyce · 19/06/2023 17:16

Fasting without changing what you eat is just reducing calories.

To do IF correctly for the even better health results you need to stop eating mostly carbs.

I IF and basically skip breakfast. I don’t eat before 12 and after 8. Sometimes my eating window is smaller. I do it alongside low carb and it works well for me.

Whydoesnothingwork · 19/06/2023 19:26

Ok so day one I've had -
One cup tea.
12pm 3 scrambled eggs on low carb toast with a coffee.
4pm apple with peanut butter (good stuff not a very processed, sugary one.)
6.30pm salmon stir fry.
3 pints water.
Not going to have anything else until 11am tomorrow.

I'm doing 20/4 (eat during a four hour window) fasting at the moment out of desperation. I've lost the main chunk of my weight but need to lose that last bit and it's now very slow and very hard progress.

It's going pretty well, but I think you wouldn't want to jump into it, better to try a larger window first.

It makes you realise how often you do eat, especially if your job allows it. It stops you from absent-mindedly picking up food, even healthy food like fruit.

I'm also doing this and have lost one stone in 2 months. I do have a morning cup of tea, but then don't eat until 12.30/1 and stop eating again at 5. Definitely feeling good for it!

octaurpus · 20/06/2023 02:57

I've been doing 18:6 for 4 weeks. I'm not weighing myself, but my clothes are looser, I've lost my facial puffiness, and I feel so much better. Before I began fasting, I was waking up with a lot of pain in the legs and feet, which has completely gone. My fatigue has also gone and my brain fog has improved. And I feel liberated from constant hunger! Fasting has really helped regulate my appetite. My window is 1pm to 7pm, but sometimes I start a bit later if I'm busy. I only have green tea and water in my fasting window. Occasionally a black tea. I can't believe how easy it's been to make the change.

Whydoesnothingwork · 19/06/2023 10:54

I thought I would start with 11am to 7pm and see how I get on.
What can i have in the fasting window?
Can I have tea/coffee?

You can have anything you like. Obviously you shouldn't eat huge amounts, but it's up to you. Tea, coffee, anything you like. I do 7pm to 11am every day, it works well for me.

katscamel · 20/06/2023 04:34

I've just discovered Dr Mindy Pelz as a pp mentioned before and am actually really enjoying what she says. She focuses on fasting for women and hiw at different stages of our cycles we need to adapt our fasting styles.
Usually I find American Dr's v.annoying but have downloaded her book on audible...and watch her on YouTube between the gym and getting ready for work.
I work slightly off hours where I'm in the classroom 12-4 then 6-8 so try and have my eating window between 4-9pm.
Only just starting so I'll let you know.

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/06/2023 04:53

No, I never lose weight. I've put ON about 20lb in the last 20 years. I eat lunch any time between 12 and 2pm and dinner around 7.30. That's it! Am not and never have been a snacker or grazer.

Whydoesnothingwork · 20/06/2023 11:00

Are you doing low carb?

OP posts:
MissyB1 · 20/06/2023 11:05

I do 16:8 and fast from 8pm until midday. I do have milk in my tea & coffee during fasting hours, still lost the weight I wanted to lose. Obviously I don’t have lattes, just a drop of milk as I can’t drink black.

danni0509 · 20/06/2023 11:18

I love fasting and do it 2 ways.

Either eat between 12-6pm, or hardcore style, eat between 4pm-5pm. I do a combo of both. At the minute I’m doing between 4pm-5pm, also known as OMAD (One meal a day) although it’s a bit more than one meal for me, one big plate of whatever I want, plus pudding - just only eating in the 1 hour window.

I don’t count the calories, (sometimes I’ll put it into nutracheck if I think I’ve consumed too much, but usually I’m not bothered, I mainly use nutracheck to check my macros, protein etc) I just make sure whatever window I’m on I stick to it, I do sometimes have times off, holidays / birthdays, special occasions. And eat whatever times. Mainly though I’m on some kind of eating window.

I also go to the gym 3 times a week and walk 10k steps minimum, but tbh I usually do 15k+ steps a day.

I’ve lost over 4 stone since feb 2022. About another 1 or 2 stone to go.

Pics below of progress so far.

Never lost this much on any other ‘diet’ and I’ve been on and off some sort of diet 20 years.
