I miss the dark nights!

Currently chilling in bed doing the usual Sunday wind down, blackout blinds are down and lamp is on. TV on low watching an old documentary about Princess Diana. But it's broad daylight! Feels so wrong. I do like the Spring, dislike the summer... but absolutely love the autumn!

Roll on October. Crunchy leaves, hot drinks and big bright stars in the dark sky.

Ain't no Summer Lover in this house! 😃

I know what you mean
There seems to be no evenings. The sun sets and it's bedtime

LobeliaSackville · 18/06/2023 20:25

I enjoy it being light out until 10, but the other night I woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep because it was already getting light outside the birds were singing away. I was fuming

MunchMunch · 18/06/2023 20:26

I love the light nights but it feels weird telling the kids to go to bed at 10:30pm and it's still light, reminds me of when they were little and in bed for 7:30pm.

SophiaElise · 18/06/2023 20:28

I'm with you OP - I love spring and autumn!

kirsty2023 · 18/06/2023 20:31

Can't beat a cold winter night snuggled with a blanket and hot drink watching tv with the kids and also winter walks

thespy · 18/06/2023 20:44

I wish it was possible to swap all my winter dark nights for all your summer light ones! I'd follow the sun and the light if I could. I find Autumn depressing. Winter abysmal. I don't mind the cold or the rain or the wind, but I hate the dark! Good job I wasn't born any further north.

coxesorangepippin · 18/06/2023 20:45

Completely agree

Roll on the fading light!

stbrandonsboat · 18/06/2023 20:46

I love the light, but I'm not a fan of the heat 🥵

EyelessArseFace · 18/06/2023 20:51

Next Saturday is midsummer, so the nights will be drawing in after that.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 18/06/2023 20:52

Totally agree @YouLittlePlonka ! My fave seasons are autumn, spring, winter, summer in that order.

FlopsiesAngrySandwich · 18/06/2023 20:54

Oh, me too!

Thereoughttobeclowns · 18/06/2023 20:55

I love all the seasons, but we are not even at midsummer, so let's enjoy the long evenings. We haven't even had our dinner yet, and we are sitting outside and loving it.

Peterpauls · 18/06/2023 20:57

Im not a summer fan, I’m too hot and sweaty. Much prefer spring / autumn and winter.

SauceForTheGoose · 18/06/2023 20:58

I do like cosy evenings November to January, but January - April is so bleak!

Getting up in the morning is much more pleasant in the summer:

Also, Sue to the cost of living crisis our house was horribly cold during the winter. I definitely don't miss wearing thermals and hugging hot water bottles all night:

muuummypig · 18/06/2023 20:59

Couldn't have said this better myself op! Dark nights, candles, cosy blankets, boots, tights, pumpkin spice... counting down the days!

FourTeaFallOut · 18/06/2023 20:59

The couple weeks either side of the summer solstice gets a bit crazy. I'm in the N.E, I think I'd be a bit broken if I was any further north.

Oblomov23 · 18/06/2023 20:59

Me too. It's 9pm I've just jumped into bed, it's so light.

Agreed! January and February are utter shit! Bring on September and October ❤

You can block out the light, like you’re doing now (though why you’d want to is an anathema to me!) but you can’t recreate that gorgeous summer sunset / twilight light in the winter. So yes, YABU.

MidnightMeltdown · 18/06/2023 21:04

What were you doing in bed at 8:30pm?! That's still the middle of the day as far as I'm concerned 😂

Even if you left if an hour later it would at least be starting to get dark. I won't be thinking about bed for a couple a hours yet.

Kanaloa · 18/06/2023 21:05

Well on one hand I get it. But as someone who works shifts at times it makes such a huge huge difference when you’re leaving for work at 5 in the morning and it’s light. You feel less tired, more with it, happier. Same if you’re getting home from work at 8pm and it’s light. Makes a big difference!

I do love autumn and winter, but I think they’re even better after a good summer!

Kanaloa · 18/06/2023 21:06

Although I will say I’m a weirdo because I actually love January. It’s always stood out to me as a fresh new start.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 18/06/2023 21:06

I like January-April 🤷‍♀️ Better for running, tv is good, snuggling up, all cosy. Wrap up warm and you can do the same stuff outside - as my DM says “no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing”!!

Excitingnewusername · 18/06/2023 21:06

In my ideal world we'd have the long light days, but autumnal temperatures, ((and regular rainfall) (and not having to wear factor 50 plus all day every day if I want to leave the house)).

I'm an autumn/winter/ spring lover in general, but walking to and from work in the dark feels like so much more of a slog than doing so in day light.
