I miss the dark nights!

Currently chilling in bed doing the usual Sunday wind down, blackout blinds are down and lamp is on. TV on low watching an old documentary about Princess Diana. But it's broad daylight! Feels so wrong. I do like the Spring, dislike the summer... but absolutely love the autumn!

Roll on October. Crunchy leaves, hot drinks and big bright stars in the dark sky.

Ain't no Summer Lover in this house! 😃

I have made peace with all the seasons life is to short to wish a season away.

After the utterly cold dismal spring we have had I am thoroughly enjoying this summer.

I find finding complementary entertainment helps. Books, films, whatever.

Usually prefer autumn, early autumn but waited so long this year that summer can last for ages as I feel we missed spring.

Marchintospring · 18/06/2023 21:12

You are bonkers.
Everything is easier in the light summer months.

I am completely dreading the longest day because after that it’s all downhill for another year.
Roll on the sun. Cheaper, easier, freeing.

I love the light, but I'm not a fan of the heat 🥵

This is me too!

Love the light nights and being able to sit outside until bedtime, but don't love the heat.

LlynTegid · 18/06/2023 21:14

I disagree with you OP. If it was my decision, clocks would not go back in the autumn, it would be BST year round.

I like the lower summer energy bills too.

Although I will say I’m a weirdo because I actually love January. It’s always stood out to me as a fresh new start.

I like January, after the full on excess, cheese, decorating, songs, activities of December, January is simple, cleansing, calm, reflective.

DrCoconut · 18/06/2023 21:15

I feel so much better in summer. My mood and energy are better, I have higher vitamin D (gut absorption issues) and there is more time to do things because you're not hampered by the dark. I find winter miserable and claustrophobic. Kids sleep so much better in summer too when they can get out and burn their energy off. And clothes - no ugly, weight adding jumpers and coats and big clumpy shoes, just lightweight comfort and look a million times better. Win all round.

YouLittlePlonka · 18/06/2023 21:46

January is absolutely shit! You either go a month without vino or feel guilty if you don't because everyone's on the wagon, the weather is shit, the house is freezing, you have that dreaded "back to work" feeling after a week and a half off work, people are depressed because they're skint and worrying about heating bills and the worst part for me is it's too sludgy and frosty to do my beloved canal walks.

It should be mid September all year round. Light days, nice weather without being stifling... and well on the way to darkness by 8pm :-)

I love them. I would like summer all year round.

TheLostNights · 18/06/2023 22:01

I miss them too. Can't wait until Autumn.
Read that it's going to get even hotter which honestly just makes me want to cry.

Rockfordpeach · 18/06/2023 22:04

I love autumn and winter. Dark evenings, cosy nights on the sofa, no pressure to be doing things. I definitely suffer from SAD in reverse

Heartbreaktuna · 18/06/2023 22:13

I hate it too. I have black out curtains. And a sleep mask and wear earplugs. But every day a slither of light at 4am still somehow reaches my brain and wakes me up. When I lived in the states sun rise and set and pretty much the same time 365 days a year. Just fabulous.

xogossipgirlxo · 19/06/2023 09:49

I like light evenings, but early sunrise is killing me. Keeps waking me up despite eye mask. I am thinking of buying new blinds to our bedroom to completely block the light out. It might be that I'm almost 9 months pregnant that I don't sleep well, but it really disturbs me.

xogossipgirlxo · 19/06/2023 09:50

*long, not sure why I said light. Probably because of daylight in the evening

Tidsleytiddy · 19/06/2023 10:03

My favourite four months are September, October, November, December and the run-up to Christmas. Boots, coat, dark at 3.30. Bliss x

Ambi · 19/06/2023 10:05

Oh no I hate the dark, wet, cold nights. It's just soul crushingly depressing. The light evenings just feel like I can do so much more with a full day, not that I do really.

bonfirebash · 19/06/2023 10:08

It's the heat that means I can't sleep
Would be amazing if it could be warm all day, light until 10pm, then pitch black overnight with rain and cooler temperatures

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 19/06/2023 10:10

I am the exact same love to sit in the garden in the summer but it's all about Cosy autumn for me too

MathsNervous · 19/06/2023 10:13

Autumn is my best friend 💖

EmpressSoleil · 19/06/2023 10:35

I absolutely detest light evenings. So much so that at around 6 - 7pm I "shut" the house for the night! I have a combo of normal blinds, blackout blinds, thick curtains etc. So I can recreate a dark evening all over the house! The lamps go on and you would never know it's bright summer outside. Having such bright light in the evening genuinely makes me feel stressed and anxious. I have long suspected I have summer SAD. I have portable AC to keep me cool so I don't need to consider allowing air in, in the evenings. Window are all open during the day anyway. I'm fine with light mornings, but evenings need to be dark!

I could have written this post. I love getting my PJs on around 6pm. Curtains and blinds closed for the night. Cosy. Time to hibernate.

I wish it was possible to swap all my winter dark nights for all your summer light ones! I'd follow the sun and the light if I could. I find Autumn depressing. Winter abysmal. I don't mind the cold or the rain or the wind, but I hate the dark! Good job I wasn't born any further north.

Totally agree. Don't understand these people wishing dark nights upon us. In summer you get more time to do stuff, it feels like the day is extended. You don't have to get all your outside jobs done before 4pm. When you finish work or at weekends you can spend more time outdoors in the warm weather. I have earplugs and thick curtains so I don't get woken up at 4am.

Yes you get more time to do stuff but you feel you need to be constantly on the go, and doing stuff because you feel you should. Roll on September 😔

croft89 · 19/06/2023 12:41

You'll be moaning about how cold it is and having to put the heating on soon

GalileoHumpkins · 19/06/2023 12:46

I love the light nights, I find the current fetishisation of Autumn really strange.

cassiatwenty · 19/06/2023 12:49

Can't wait until Autumn as well. My fave ❤
