Boris stands down as MP with immediate effect part 3

1000 replies

DuncinToffee · 18/06/2023 16:56

Tomorrow is the Commons vote on the Privileges Committee's findings that Boris Johnson deliberately misled Parliament over Downing Street parties during lockdown

The vote is a free vote rather than being whipped either way. Tories have been told that the vote will be a one-line whip, meaning they will not be obliged to participate.

Boris Johnson is believed to have advised his backers to not vote against it.

Michael Gove confirmed on live tv that he will abstain

Tobias Elwood has u-turned on abstaining after hearing stories from voters

Rishi Sunak, who knows

Penny Mordaunt says she will vote in support of the privileges committee's report on Boris Johnson this evening, becoming the first cabinet minister to do so.

Penny Mordaunt sits alone on the government front bench, having explained why she will be supporting the verdict on Boris Johnson. None of her ministerial colleagues have turned out to support her.

The rest of them are cowards

I hope the optics of this cowardice combined with the revelation of the video and the invitation come back to bite the Tories.

Someone just told me today that Johnson's column in the tabloid turns out to have been written by Chatgpt! Has anyone else heard this? How would anyone even know?

I give you the next leader of the Tory party.

The optics of that could work well for her. I don't think anyone believes her leadership ambitions have vanished, and she's looking more the part than Rishi today.

If it was, then whoever prompted needs sacking. You could have got a damn sight better quality if you had known what you were doing. Even the Boris spoofs I created for the lolz were better than that claptrap.

Well I'm beginning to sense who told Rish! not to turn up.

It really comes to something when it transpires that bints waving swords around really is a basis for government.

Haha.

But tbf, even if that had never happened, she wasn't far off being PM last year. The membership preferred her to both Truss and Sunak iirc and she was 8 votes behind Truss in the final MP ballot. Fuck all really. Given that Truss is out of the way now and Sunak is hardly guaranteed to survive until the GE, it's obvious why she'd fancy her chances. And it looks like she's playing this one better than he is.

guinnessguzzler · 19/06/2023 17:06

@Zonder You would know because if it were written by Chatgpt it might contain at least some element of truth 😁

StormShadow · 19/06/2023 17:10

I don't like Mordaunt, fwiw. She's not even one of the ones who knows what a woman is.

Skyellaskerry · 19/06/2023 17:14

Powerful words from Theresa May

DuncinToffee · 19/06/2023 17:17

Theresa May urges MPs to back the privileges committee report which she says would be a “small but important step” to restoring public trust in Parliament.

Former PM says it is “doubly important” for Conservatives to be prepared to act “when one of our own is found wanting”.

It's pretty obvious now that Johnson approved Harman's appointment so that he could use it against her at a later date.

Frankly, no one cares. If the Tory grandees sense a vote winner, that's what we get.

Remember how we got Boris ?

DuncinToffee · 19/06/2023 17:22

@HarrietHarman just revealed to @JacobReesMogg she had offered to step aside if Govt felt she was biased against Johnson. Govt refused her offer.

"That's a mic drop, Rees-Mogg!" one Labour MP shouts

'Bints'? Penny Mordaunt is a 'bint' and her role at the Coronation was 'waving a sword around'?? Lovely.

Easier to be faux offended about language than it is to comment on the substance of the debate.
