Boris stands down as MP with immediate effect part 3

1000 replies

DuncinToffee · 18/06/2023 16:56

Tomorrow is the Commons vote on the Privileges Committee's findings that Boris Johnson deliberately misled Parliament over Downing Street parties during lockdown

The vote is a free vote rather than being whipped either way. Tories have been told that the vote will be a one-line whip, meaning they will not be obliged to participate.

Boris Johnson is believed to have advised his backers to not vote against it.

Michael Gove confirmed on live tv that he will abstain

Tobias Elwood has u-turned on abstaining after hearing stories from voters

Rishi Sunak, who knows

He really is determined to break the law, isn't he?

To be fair, (assuming the government are granted leave to appeal) at least he is still trying the legal route.

The question will be what happens when the Supreme Court uphold this appeal ? And will that happen before the next election ?

DuncinToffee · 29/06/2023 14:08

I wonder if they are actually happy with this ruling as they can now blame the failure on tofu eating woke lefty lawyers rather than on the enormous costs and inhumane nature.

Well it's win-win innit ? They get to play "look at us, we're so law abiding" with the appeal, which will keep some happy. Meanwhile they also get to play "we'd have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky judges" which will keep others happy.

Either way we lose.

But hopefully the not so illegal migrants won't lose and end up in Rwanda!

I see the Zac Goldsmith problem has been resolved by said Zac resigning because Rish! is an incompetent twat. Which I admit is a pretty nice way to reverse the danger of Rish! sacking him.

I wonder if this is part of a plot, or just Zac going rogue ?

Has Goldsmith ever looked in a mirror?

Its good to see Rishi acting decisively to get rid of an embarassing member of his government.

Actually that's unfair. It's a brilliant move. Not only does he completely slip out of any comeback from the Privileges Committee, he gets to really stick the boot into Rish! and look like an environmental crusader des nos jours. A sort of Tory Greta.

It's clear the current strategy for the people that backed Boris (bearing in mind they may have actually dropped Boris as of little use now) is that when Rish! zigs, they zag. Or in this case "Zac" (see what I did there ?)

Some little Tory weasel appears to have determined that if they can convince us that they hate Rish! as much as everyone else, they are in with a chance of getting re-elected as a Tory.

In other news I read Eurozone inflation is falling.

What's with the 'Rish!' Is it a keyboard problem, do you struggle with foreign names or is it mild mockery like my 'Keith'? I'm surprised you haven't been told off about tbh.

Notonthestairs · 30/06/2023 11:12

Maybe he just wasn't Ready for Rishi.

Think Rish! originally came from his leadership campaign team - suggesting that he was somehow new and exciting

Now used with irony rather than disrespect

Notonthestairs · 30/06/2023 11:14

How is Dorries getting on with her "immediate effect"
resignation?

@Janiie talking of struggling. Have you found an explanation as to why a 56 year old needed a birthday party so much that you support him breaking the law and lying about it?

Bit of a very old joke then. I see.

Why the snark? After all the leadership contest wasn't that long ago

Oh. You’re back.

Nobody tells you off, you’re responded to in the same tone you post. Can’t take it? Don’t dish it out seems good advice in this instance.

I get told off all the time for my mocking names. Of course I can take it I'm just wondering why 'Rish!' Doesn't cause the same outrage. One rule for one etc etc. As consistent as Sir Beer himself.

Any thoughts about the committee's report?

@Janiie Can you take questions?
For example, you seem to be of the view that it is acceptable for the Prime Minister to break the law and lie about it in parliament. Could you explain how you came to that opinion?

Nope

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2023 12:06

I'll confess that I have told Janiie off., multiple times I don't use sneering or dismissive names either , though.

Ona side note , Janiie but relevant, indignation whilst using the label foreign doesn't quite work.

Isn't it a bit different if people use a name conjured up by that person's own team?

On that basis we call Boris, Boris, but perhaps we shouldnt?
